2816 Tasting Notes
Finished off another pouch of this tonight. I think rooibos chai is my favorite dessert tea. This isn’t even the one I like the best but it’s good enough that I keep going back for more. Nice with soymilk and a bit of stevia tonight.
Preparation
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms out there and thanks to Wymm for this sample. Nice to have a shu puerh on this day we are having, which is mostly cold and overcast.
I steeped this tea about 4 times this afternoon and have been really enjoying it. Has a rich, earth taste with a little bit of sweetness. With my first steep, I was reminded of mushrooms and cherries. I had about 4 steeps only because I was worried about the caffeine. Definitely a decent shu and one worth checking out.
Sipdown…
A delicious breakfast tea with some wonderful chocolate-y notes. I’ve been finishing some things off lately, which is good. However this is gone but not forgotten. It is definitely going in my re-purchase list as it’s one of my favorite breakfast teas. Very malty and chocolate-y, and perfect with a bit of soymilk.
Preparation
Sipdown for the day. I actually liked this one, though some of the tasters did not. It’s a decent low caffeine blend – just a bit of green tea and lots of spiciness including ginger, licorice and pepper. I don’t mind licorice in small doses but I can def. see how this might be too sweet for some people. I’m kind of glad to be finishing something off but I might get more of this someday….
Preparation
Home for the evening but not down for the count yet as my FB says I still need to walk another 2,000 steps. ha ha.
Got this in my new Yunomi order. I got mostly samples and I have been really curious about this one for a while now. Baked apple and roasted houijcha sounds like a really good combination to me. I steeped this according to the package directions, 1 minute at around 195f. I found the tea to be a little thin in taste and very gingery. I like ginger but wasn’t getting apple until the cup cooled down a little. I did get the apple as an aftertaste, but it is kind of on the light side and a bit artificial at that. Hmm. Not too impressed with this at the moment but I will try steeping the rest of the sample for a longer time period and see if that improves my experience of it. For now, I am not too upset that this is just a sample size.
Flavors: Apple, Ginger
Preparation
Lupicia has a pretty good honey & pear hoijcha I can send you to try.
I was hoping that this tea would be good, it does sound like a good mixture.
Good afternoon/evening Steepster.
It has been a massive weekend of exercise for me. Yesterday I walked almost 10 miles which is the longest I’ve done in a while. Today I feel mostly like laying around. ;)
Anyway I wanted something low in caffeine that would be good for this later time of day. Hojicha is always good for that purpose. I find I don’t really care for this blend as much as the other reviewers seem to. I don’t really pick up the caramel flavor much but it is ok with sugar and soymilk. I have barely touched this since I bought it but I don’t think roasted tea like this goes bad too quickly.
Preparation
Good evening Steepster. I’ve gotten into a habit where I drink black tea in the mornings, then some coffee, and green tea in the afternoon. I’ve definitely been trying to deplete my current supply so there hasn’t been a lot of new tea reviews from me. I miss my yixings and have been contemplating bringing one in to work every so often but I’m undecided it that would be a good idea.
This one I got a few days ago, I like rooibos chai especially in the evenings. Maybe I need to try this with two teabags, but I found it kind of light on flavor. I’m getting a bit of rooibos and some gingery clove, but it isn’t one of my favorite rooibos chais by far since it seems kind of light. I had it with soymilk and no sugar, it was ok like that. I suppose I will finish the box but this was just kind of “ok”
Preparation
After hike tea – I am trying to get back into shape and have been walking more but today it was a super intense hike. I am tired and wish I could kick back with some wine but I still have things to do today.
So tea it is ;)
This came from my Obubu sampler pack, I found it in my box of samples. I thought I finished the Obubu samples a while ago but found this one. This is a really delicious green tea, though it reminds me more of Chinese green tea than of a deep steamed Japanese green. It is yellow-ish gold in color and has a nutty flavor along with deep vegetal notes, a bit like a dragonwell. There is a mild bittersweetness in the finish. Something about it seems very soothing, which is good because I wanted a little boost but don’t want to be awake all night. A nice one from Obubu! I’d consider getting more of this sometime.
