This tastes better when you can’t really taste, just fyi! A good black tea if you’re sick and congested.

drank Zen by Tazo

It’s kind of strange that since I’m sick, I’ve been pulling out more green teas to drink. I’d have thought I’d want the strongest blends right now if only for the increased energy. I guess it’s more about how they feel on the tongue than anything else while I’m feeling so crappy. I sure can’t taste this but it “feels” good!

drank Cambric by Walnut Cafe

Another Saturday, another Cambric. I have been really sick, and almost tried this with the honey (honey grosses me out—I hate the scent/flavour/consistency of it), since I figured I wouldn’t really taste it… in the end I decided to forego the extra calories and drink it without, as usual. It was awesome!

Had this without the syrup today (so I guess it’s basically just earl grey tea & skim milk)… this is my chai alternative for Fridays when I feel like something less spicy. Unfortunately, I got stuck in traffic on my way to work and wasn’t able to remove the tea bag so it oversteeped by a good 10 minutes but I just added a lot of extra hot water and it turned out okay.

I really like the Tazo black teas, and steamed milk is so much better than just adding my own boring milk. Without the over-steeping, it woud’ve been perfect! I like it better with the syrup, but I can’t taste anything with this cold anyway so I didn’t want the extra calories.

Ordering it on Fridays cuz you don’t want anything spicy… Interesting drinking trend:)

Alannah

I only let myself go to Starbucks on Fridays, so it wasn’t so much just that it was Friday, just that I didn’t want anything spicy today since I’m sick. I probably didn’t explain that very well!

Cofftea

Haha no you didn’t- or I just didn’t understand. I thought you got a chai latte M-TH and this on Fridays lol.

Alannah

I wish I could afford a chai M-TH (both calorie- and money-wise)!

drank French Vanilla by Lipton
433 tasting notes

I haven’t had this in a long time (and I’m still sick, so my sense of taste is way off), but I enjoy this for a basic vanilla black tea. I think in general, Lipton gets a bad rap, but I’ve never had a problem with their teas.

I’ve almost finished off the box of this, and I will definitely buy more (although I’ll try to hold off seeing as my cabinets are overflowing right now!).

I found a box of this tea in my desk drawer at work (it has to be a good 2 years old, but it was sealed) and remembered liking it. I have a quickly worsening cold today, and I can’t breathe/taste very well, but there is a definite nutty note along with something that vaguely seems like vanilla but is a little “off”. I’ll have to try this again when I’m well to truly review it, but at least for now it’s kind of comforting.

drank Vanilla Chai by Bigelow

Brought something else to drink today but ended up not being in the mood for it, so I went back to this (I keep a box at my work desk). Never disappointing!

drank Coconut Cream Pie by 52teas
433 tasting notes

Received my 52Teas order over the weekend, and this one was first to try on my list. I made a pretty large mug of it, so I thought I would let it brew for a while. I think that was my first mistake… it was slightly bitter and the “cream” flavour gave off a weird aftertaste (I had the same thing happen with an earl grey cream tea I oversteeped once). Even without that, though, I wasn’t too impressed with the flavour. I will reserve judgement until I get to try it under better brewing circumstances, but my first cup was definitely disappointing!

drank Spicy Chai Latte by Trader Joe's
433 tasting notes

My sister bought me a tin of this for xmas maybe two years ago, and I just re-discovered it, unopened, in my tea cupboard. I put off trying it because it’s pretty high-calorie for a drink and I hate wasting my daily calories that way! Anyway, I was skeptical because most powdered chai mixes are pretty lacking, especially if you just use water, but I actually liked this!

I didn’t use milk, and I didn’t feel it was missing anything. I was careful to only fill my huge mug part-way, because it said to add 6 oz. of water per scoop and I didn’t want to dilute it. It’s definitely very sweet (and the ingredients list 3 different kinds of sugar), but not grossly so. It was a nice treat for a not-so-nice day.

When looking for info. about this tea online, I read several comments that this has been discontinued, but there aren’t any Trader Joe’s in Colorado so I can’t be sure.

I looove TJ’s chai latte mix! The closest one is 2 hrs away, but I got some when I visited a friend last year.

Alannah

I would definitely love to have one nearby! I think AZ is the closest location to us. :(

Cofftea

I think WA state is closer… but when you’re talking that far, who cares? lol. Sad day.

Keemun

…enjoyed reading your bio/profile…I always get a raised eyebrow from my wife while shopping or travelling when she catches me holding ANOTHER tin of tea in my hands.Happens weekly…most of the time I give in and cry myself into sleep

Alannah

Fortunately, I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t allow myself to buy new tea (unless I’m replacing one I’ve finished off) unless we’re travelling. I have gone on a couple of binges with these Steepster Select things but mostly I hold to it!

Starla H

We have one nearby and I remember seeing it advertised around Christmas time, so I think they still make it, but maybe only at certain times of the year.

Cofftea

Only at certain times??? That makes no sense.

Alannah

It could be seasonal (which I really wouldn’t get, because it’s just chai)—?

Starla H

Personally, I like chai year round, but I guess the cinnamon and spice of it could invoke holidays. I really have no idea if this is the case for TJ’s blend or not. Was just offering a theory. :)
