Another tea I’ve had for awhile and enjoyed many times but forgot to review. The brew temperature from Tealux says 194F. That seems just way too high for a white tea and I’ve been brewing closer to the 175F. Definitely has a smooth butterscotch flavour. The peppercorn is very faint and I only seemed to notice it when the tea cooled down more. It is just enough to add to the tea but not ruin the overall flavour. I’m not as experienced as some others on Steepster noticing the different notes but am working on it.

drank Pu-erh earl grey by Tealux
661 tasting notes

Brews up a rich dark earthy pu-erh with notes of Earl Grey Bergamot. Very tasty but I couldn’t detect the White Peony tea. It seems to get lost in the richness of the Pu-erh tea. This tea is brewed at a lower temperature than other pu-erh teas but it still might be too hot for the white tea. I might try this again brewing at a lower temp to see if I can detect the white peony tea. Otherwise , it’s still a great robust tea.

drank Lichee Jasmine Green by Tealux

I’ve had this tea for awhile and brewed it up a few times. I think because I like hot teas I might have been brewing it at a slightly higher temperature than I should . This time I decided to reduce the temperature and it was a much nicer tea. The lichee comes through first with a nice base green followed by the jasmine notes. Glad I gave it another try.

I can’t believe I didn’t leave a review for this. It’s such a fine tea. I’ve had it many times and even ordered more from Tealux. It has a bit of that buttery milky flavour similiar to the milk oolong’s.

I thought I would love this tea based on the ratings but I have brewed it a few times and it just falls flat with me. I’m not a fan of artificial flavouring and that comes through very strong with this tea. It’s not horrible so will probably finish off what I have but won’t buy again.

I changed my ratings on this tea only because it’s such a well loved tea. I’ve tried to love it but it doesn’t work for me.

drank Orange Oolong by Bulk Barn

What was I thinking? Picking up loose tea samples today at Bulk Barn to try them out. I’ve had some before in the past and never liked them but thought I would try some new ones, thinking – you just never know. Since I joined Steepster and have been ordering teas online it seemed I’ve just got to have that new taste sensation all the time. I’m guessing there are a few like me here on Steepster. And yes, a whole bunch of Bulk Barn teas came up on Steepster so I don’t feel so alone anymore.

So anyway, this smelled quite nice dry. Just a hint of orange. Oolong looked to be a decent quality so brewed it up at the temp I used for oolong, I think around the 190. I can smell the light orange in it but the flavour is awful. What kind of cheap oolong did they use is this? Okay, maybe it’s not that bad, but it’s certainly not good. I’m probably spoiled from all the good milk oolong I’ve been drinking lately.

drank Strawberry Oolong by Tealux

This oolong is very similar to a milk oolong. On the package there’s nothing about anything being added so it seems the strawberry flavour is part of the natural tea notes. First brewing I could taste the subtle strawberry notes but in the 2nd brewing I couldn’t. It was still an excellent cup of tea since it tasted like a milk oolong to me.

drank Strawberry Splash by Tealux

I only got a sample of this from Tealux and it’s not one of my favourites. I don’t like a lot of Sencha teas but have been trying a few here and there to see if I hit one I like. It wasn’t this one. The sencha tea base was a good one but I couldn’t taste any strawberry flavouring. All I picked up was hibiscus which I did not like.

Bio

Green teas are my favourite teas but I also enjoy: white, some herbal, rooibos, raw pu’erh, light oolongs, a little bit of black , and a little bit of ripe pu’erh. I have moved away from artificial flavourings and there’s hardly anything left in my cabinet with artificial flavouring or colours. It is mostly straight teas or tea blends.
