So yeah, Mirkwood… I just watched The Hobbit movie for the first time so why not review this tea now.

When I think Mirkwood and Hobbits, I think of course adventures, deep dark forests, and… mushrooms!

But maybe that’s just me… see, I have a thing for mushrooms. I love them…I observe them, I photograph them, I eat them, and with this tea I now drink them more than ever (!!!)

Cause people, mushrooms will you find in this tea. Not any kind of mushies… Da Best!!

Attention, attention: Morel alert!!! YES!!! If you are a bit of a foodie like I am, you know what morels taste like. They are so scrumptious and fancy. They make me drool.

But who could think of adding them to puerh?

Who? Well, a Tea Hobbit of course.

Attention, attention: Puerh alert!!!! YES!!! Ontario 1357 is the base tea!

Brace yourself and prepare for an effective and very warming qi. (Just read some of the Ontario 1357 reviews if you want proof)

But enough bells and whistles…how does it taste, right?

Think creamy and buttery mouthfeel, with woody notes.

This mushroom soup renders a light saltiness. Yes, it’s a little briny, as if a few drops of soy sauce were added to the cup. I know, I know, it sounds weird, but it works! Makes the tea somewhat savory, and combined with the natural sweetness found in 1357, you get full on umami taste! If you’ve had a good asian broth, you know what I mean.

This is very different, fresh, innovative.

I love being taken out of my comfort zone without being too shocked. Cause as surprising as it is, it’s still very comforting. The only shock you will get is how good it is. Yes, it’s shockingly delicious!

P.S. So you’re not a mushroom fan? No worries…morels don’t taste damp and very earthy like most mushrooms do. I promise, there are no residual taste of Hobbit feet in this tea.

Man, that sounds so fascinating and cool; it’s a shame I’m like super allergic to mushrooms…

TheTeaFairy

Allergic to mushies? Man, that really suck!! :-(

ThainofBuckland

No residual taste of hobbit feet? What’s wrong with hobbit feet?
I have to try this tea now, though. Your review is filled with awesome.

@ThainofBuckland: lol, thank you! And nothing wrong with Hobbit feet, love them, just don’t want their juice in my tea! And yes, you MUST try this blend ;-)

Profile

Bio

I am French Canadian, so please forgive me if my English is not always perfect :-/

My relationship with tea in a nutshell:

I’m married to straight Black. I have torrid love affairs with Oolong and Puerh. I party with Green and White occasionally. Flavored are not my BFF, I usually stay away from them.

Love Steepster, a place for tea lovers, where you learn and share with others.

About me:

I am a free spirit, I let people be who they are and expect the same in return.

Books! I love classic literature, but also modern and pretty much anything that captures my attention.

Music is also something I can’t live without… From Bach to Nirvana, my ears know no boundaries…

Animal and nature lover, amateur photographer.

I’ve been drinking tea for as long as I can remember.

Drinking tea is a sensorial experience. The name in itself “Camellia Sinensis” lingers the promess of an adventure for the senses…

Not a big «swapper», but will occasionally. Not because I don’t want to share but because I’m trying not to hoard so much.

Also, I have narrowed down the teas I really like over the years, and I don’t feel the need to try and buy everything the way I used to. (Maybe I have become a tea snob? Sigh…)

My ratings: because I pretty much drink only teas that I judge exceptional, my ratings are usually high. Don’t be shocked to see lots of 90’s and a few 100’s. That’s because I’ve had my share of crapy teas and I’m done with that ;-)

You can find me on Instagram here, I post about my tea sessions mostly, but also about the beautiful nature that surrounds me, and my fury companions :-)
