I love milk oolongs, so I simply had to try another one out there! I don’t taste buttery or milky flavors that I do in other milk oolongs. There is a little bit of a peachy note in the background, but otherwise it tastes like an astringent green oolong, to me. Not a favorite, but I’m happy that I was able to try it! Thank you maisonlula for a sample!

I’m intrigued by the smell of this tea. I’m getting bits of berry & something creamy. It’s sort of like a raspberry liquor chocolate. It smells like another tea I’ve had before, but I can’t remember which! The scent somehow transfers to the taste. Berries and chocolate against a smooth tea background. I think the sweet potato comes out as an aftertaste… more of a texture in the back of your throat and on your tongue. It is a bit drying and starchy and I am curiously impressed! Even though I don’t taste sweet potato in particular, my taste buds are happy. I don’t think I would drink this daily.. just because the dry/starchy sensation is slightly overwhelming. You have to sort of prepare your mouth and throat for some irritation. Thank you to Amy oh for a sample!

I am very excited to try this tea. I’d heard a lot about Zealong teas — today I’m finally getting to try one!

The first infusion is a bright yellow, probably the brightest oolong I’ve had. The scent is a bit grassy, creamy — almost like a milk oolong. It’s quite smooth with surprisingly little flavor. I’m tasting a very slight fruity and tart note. A nice, mellow first steep.

Second infusion – The color is still just as yellow and bright. It smells a little bit more astringent this time and a bit more floral. I’m definitely getting many more floral notes in this cup. Also, there is a little bit of a green apple skin flavor — just slightly bitter. Reminds me of a clean, spring bouquet.

Third infusion – Bright yellow? Check! Scent is a bit more creamy and the floral notes are still there. This steep mirrors the second. A little bit floral, a little bit fruity and a little bit bitter.

I’d like to do more infusions, but I should be concentrating on homework instead! Overall, it’s a nice oolong .. but I’m not over the moon about it.

P.S. This marks my 200th tasting note! Hooray! I’ll have a yummy cup of tea this evening to celebrate!

Thank you to Taite for this tea. Boy, am I in love with this one. I’ve tried quite a few rooibos dessert blends, and perhaps a couple of caramel rooibos teas. My favorite was TeaPig’s version before I tried this one. Yummy! It’s smooth, sweet and perfect to have after dinner before bed. I’m getting a lovely mix of caramel & vanilla — it’s sort of like a sugary frosting. The finish is nice and memorably smooth. The characteristic rooibos wood flavor comes out at the tail end of the sip. This is so good. I’ll definitely be buying a bag when I’m out!

some crazy person who loves tea

=D I’m very glad it could go to a good home.

Thank you to Amy Oh for a sample of this tea. I had been wanting to try this tea for the longest time. It just sounded too delicious to pass up! I ADORE oolongs. They have to be my favorite tea. I’m a bit disappointed with this one, though. The tea is too smelly for my tastes. It smells like that stinky grass that lingers on your fingers after you pull it out of the ground. I just can’t stand it. I suppose that it’s the orchid that I’m not liking. The slight sweetness is nice, but the orchid is just killing me. I thought that I would like orchid much more, but I think that this is one more thing I should add to my ‘dislikes’. I can’t get more than a few sips down.

TeaBrat

I’m actually kind of glad someone else thought it was icky… :)

QueenOfTarts

Amy, I completely know what you mean! I am so thankful that I got to try this tea, so thank you again. I just didn’t know that I would dislike orchid so much. The scent.. the taste… I can’t even think about it! ;)

TeaBrat

I feel so bad! But maybe you can swap the rest to someone else!

Meeka

If you have any left I would be interested in swapping! (My cupboard is not up to date but I can let you know what I’ve got if you’re interested – mostly unflavored green, black, oolong, and some puerh)

Many thanks to Tabby for sharing some of this tea with me! The leaves, while curled, are golden and black — and sadly remind me a little bit of spiders’ legs. I try not to think about it as I scoop tea into my cup. This tea smells rich and sweet! A little bit of pepper and a little bit of sweet potato. I can’t wait to sip! There is something a bit leathery and thick about the first few sips. I suppose I was expecting something a bit sweeter. Yes, it’s a bit like thick smoky, peppery bread. Quite dry and earthy. I think this would make a better morning cup of tea. It might be a bit too heavy for this evening!

Hmm… a very interesting tea! It takes a little while for the flavor to develop on your tongue. I first taste an earthy tea flavor. This is closely followed by a tart fruit flavor that slowly finishes in a mellow, slightly astringent blueberry note. Very cool! I wish that there was more of a sweet blueberry flavor as I taste mostly an earthy tea. I will say that the tea base complements the subtle blueberry flavor. I also find the dry leaf to look awfully pretty as well. Love the cornflowers against the dark tea!

This is a reasonably nice white tea. Smooth and just a little bit astringent. As it cools, I’m definitely tasting more hay and a slight fruitiness in the background. I’m not sure if I’d repurchase, but it was fun to try this cup.

Ah, my first cup of tea in about three weeks. WHAT?! Three weeks?! I know, it has to be some kind of record. Recovery from surgery has been long and miserable. It’s been difficult to taste certain foods and flavors. I didn’t want to waste good tea if I couldn’t taste anything! I decided that I was at a good point to try tea again. This coconut milky oolong was a great choice. It’s fruity, flavorful and comforting. I’m not getting much of a creamy or buttery note, but it’s still yummy. Welcome back, tea. I’m so happy to be drinking you again!

I thought that I would love this tea as I adore flavored/scented/dessert oolongs. The combination sounded just lovely so I poured myself a cup this evening. The oolong was relatively uneventful, though slightly smooth. What bothered me about this tea is the almost sickly burnt sugar flavor. It bothered me so much that I couldn’t finish the cup. I’m quite glad I didn’t order a large amount of this tea. A cup (or about 3/4 of a cup) was enough for me!
