drank Coconut Oolong by Zen Tea
618 tasting notes

My first sip of this tea is creamy, milky coconut. Yum! It’s absolutely delicious! The sip quickly fades into that sour note that coconut sometimes lends to a tea. As it cools, it still remains milky, but becomes greener and more of the floral oolong notes come out. This is definitely a tasty tea, but I have to be in the mood for it. As this isn’t just a milky oolong, but a coconut one, I really have to want coconut for this to be a good cup.

Before I sipped this tea, I thought that it was going to be nearly identical to Strawberry Pie Honeybush only without the cinnamon. I wanted to love the Strawberry Pie blend, but the cinnamon and other flavors made it a bit too sharp. That tea also left a bad taste in my mouth.

This one is much more smooth. I feel like I can finally concentrate on the beautiful strawberry and the honeybush background. I don’t think that there is much milkshake flavor here, but the strawberry and honeybush combination is lovely without cinnamon. It’s a rather simple and light tea – not too spectacular, but pleasant. I can see myself going through this pouch quickly! Might have another cup tonight.

I just noticed this one on their website today and thought it a funny thing to name a tea after such a character.. but after thinking about it, it all makes sense.

QueenOfTarts

Suziqzer- clever, right?!

Suziqzer

Yes it is! Hubby and I have been working our way through the series on Netflix .. Walter is probably our favorite character. :)

I remember getting this one BECAUSE of the name! I haven’t tried it I a while…should probably get back to it.

Sil

is this from the recent reblends queen?

QueenOfTarts

Sil, yes, it’s from the recent reblend. I can’t really compare the two since I missed out on this the first time around… wish I knew what the original tasted like!

I popped open this pouch of tea and wow, it is beautiful! I love the different chunks of orange peel and apple mixed with the rooibos and flower petals. What a treat! It smells of citrus and creamy vanilla, as expected. The rooibos becomes more present after water has been added, but it seems to be a creamy extension of the vanilla.

Sipping… hm, this blend is very straight-forward in its flavors. I was expecting there to be a little more depth, but it’s orange + vanilla + rooibos and not a whole lot else. The orange and the vanilla seem to come all at once and the rooibos lends itself to both the sweet and tart characters of the other ingredients. I love the balance of all of the flavors – nothing stronger than the rest. I think I prefer lemon and vanilla/cream teas a bit more, but this is a strong blend that is enjoyable and yummy.

I like tea blends that have chamomile, but they have to be done well. This one makes me a little nervous because of the licorice, but I’m hoping that the vanilla and chamomile will be able to hide that flavor. The blend is quite heavy on the chamomile flowers – I almost can’t see any of the other ingredients except for the lemongrass. The scent is light, slightly herbal and sweet.

Sipping… the chamomile is the first thing that I taste. It changes quickly into the nicest combination of flowers and vanilla. The finish is sweet, but a little strange. I’m getting some notes of licorice (that throat-coating sweetness) and stevia. I wish that this blend could just be the vanilla and chamomile because that mixture is lovely. The stevia and licorice finish ruins the cup, in my opinion. It’s not undrinkable, but leaves a gross feeling and flavor in the back of the throat.

I gulped down the vanilla cacao blend from Herbal Infusions so I decided it was time to order more! The strawberry smells so sweet and bright and doesn’t leave much room for the cacao to shine. After water has been added, the strawberry and cacao balance out. It reminds me a lot of strawberry candies covered in chocolate.

Sipping… the sweet strawberry comes first and is slowly hugged by the cacao. There is the nicest creamy chocolate note that finishes the sip. While it’s tasty, there is a part of me that feels like strawberry doesn’t belong with cacao. It could be that the strawberry is a little on the artificial side and the cacao naturally brings forward a chocolate flavor. I don’t think that I like this one as much as the vanilla cacao. It actually tastes worse as the the cup cools. Eh.. not so delicious anymore.

I’m a little nervous to be trying this tea after reading some of the reviews. I went back and forth on whether I should buy some of this and decided.. well, it’s oolong + raspberry and I love both.. so let’s give it a try! When I opened the pouch I was expecting the tea to smell rather gross, but it is actually more natural than I was expecting. The oolong is tightly rolled and uniform and the raspberry is light and pleasant. Curious to see how this will translate to the actual flavor!

Sipping… The raspberry loses some of its bite and actually tastes a little bit like raspberry jam. There is a tart note that blends well with the oolong base. The oolong tastes of butter and minerals. Definitely very tasty! This isn’t my favorite fruity oolong, but it does hit the spot this evening. Yum!

I really like this combination of plantain, coconut and green rooibos. I enjoy green rooibos, but don’t have many blends that feature it. The scent of this tea is of sweet plantain. It reminds me a little bit of banana baby food — mushy, creamy, strangely comforting. Sipping… there is a very nice balance of plantain and coconut here. The coconut adds a rather tangy note to the otherwise sweet and starchy plantain. The rooibos gives the cup a lovely freshness.

I’ve noticed that I have to be in the mood for this particular blend, but it’s delicious & really hits the spot when I do drink it.

Sounds interesting, like a pina colada minus the pina! Lupicia’s Golden Honey Dew is a green rooibos too.

QueenOfTarts

Dustin- It’s definitely very tasty! I would give this one a try if the components sound like something you’d like. I had been wanting to try the honeydew from Lupicia, but they’re all out of stock!

The dry leaf is so pretty! Thin black and gold strands – just lovely! It makes a beautifully dark, red-tinted cup. Sipping… I taste hay, sourdough bread and a tiny bit of dark chocolate. Not a whole lot of caramel here, but it’s smooth and sweet. I wish that I could taste more of that caramel as it would add another tasty dimension to the cup, but it is still very delicious.

I pulled this teabag out of one of the traveling tea boxes and I’m actually glad that I remembered! I have a bad stomach ache tonight and need something soothing. I actually don’t have an herbal blend for these times, but I really should. I guess the herbs that are typically in those ‘tummy blends’ don’t appeal to me so I haven’t invested much time in finding a solid blend that will do the job and taste good.

This one is reasonably soft for the amount of herbs that are in it. It reminds me of Sleepytime tea without the strong minty note. To be honest, all of the flavors sort of mush together and shout together, “WE’RE HERBAL!” I like to think that it’s settling my stomach and before I know it, the cup is gone. This is a rather pleasant herbal blend for this evening — nothing too sharp or strong. I’m still on the search for a tasty tummy blend, but this was nice tonight!

I’ve really been enjoying this tea ever since I introduced it to my tea collection. This tea is delicious. It has this lovely layers that fold away as you sip: plum, cream, oolong, a hint of spice. I’m very happy that I gave this one a try as it’s now a permanent tea in my own collection.
