I finally got to try this. Two three minute steepings. The first was the best. The second was weak. Overall a relaxing tea to drink because of the aroma. I think I would just add it full strength to another tea.

I thought I would try this as a drink for morning, because it has more caffeine. This mate is like a black tea in colour, but has the grassiness of a green tea. The first steeping of 3 minutes was really grassy, but that changed into a sweetness on the second steeping. It has a complexity and a warmth that I love.

I really enjoy Guayusa :)

In my mind, I was thinking of this as pumpkin chai matcha. Now that I know it’s pumkin pie, it makes sense. On the one hand, I was expecting aggressive spices. Knowing that it is pie not chai explains the more subtle flavouring. It didn’t overpower the matcha either, but a little bit of spiciness lingered though. Colour was a matcha green.

The cup was made for me at the store. I had it with the usual matcha volume, as opposed to their tea cup size. Probably 5 of their matcha spoons.

I wonder how one sifts these, given that there is already sugar and spice.

What was I thinking expecting loose leaf tea from a tea bag company? Having said that, I think if I can find a fine sieve, this tea will be similar to the bagged version. The price was right at 7.50 for 250g! The size of particle is similar to Twinings English Breakfast. It also tastes better. Little dark right now, so will work on tweaking the brew. By the way, a good tip is that fine teas are much heavier, so use 1/2 as much otherwise you will end up with bitter tea.

Today’s random steeping is a Jasmine green from China. The maker is called Xuan En Yulu. The jasmine flavour is pronounced, pleasing, and filling. The tea brews up a serious yellow colour. I had it prepared in store in a tea pot.

drank Wild Black Yunnan by DAVIDsTEA

A good black tea, though perhaps not a great one. I did two full sized mug steepings of 3 minutes. Compare this one with Nepal Black and see which one you prefer. Notice the difference in the amount of tips. I would really hesitate before paying the 20 bucks / 50 grams that they were originally asking.

I cannot drink black tea (sensitive belly) but I drink green tea and to me yunnan greens have such a tendency to become bitter that they aren’t worth it to me :(

I bought a single serving of this to try which was 1.5 grams. I sifted the matcha. It sifted easily, perhaps because of the small amount? The colour before whisking was dark green. Whisking produced a good amount of foam. Flavour was good, but not great, in part due to the reduced amount from one package. I used approximately 120 mL of water. Little remained in the cup after drinking. There was a clean finish. Perhaps two single packets might be used. The powder easily left the package as well. In other words it was easy to use.

I think the Japanese way is 1.8g per 70mL water

Yes, it is, and thicker tea is even less. In general a flat tea spoon and 120 ml max works well for me. I use a bit more water because I like a little more tea to drink. In general, if you get to the point where you don’t have tea left on the sides of the cup then you have found the right amount.

I use a shot glass by the way, because it’s a convenient measuring tool. It can be dangerous though, because it’s hot water.

Hand made tea is a luxury, and it is no different with this variety. I had the tea brewed for me in store with two steepings of 3 minutes each. I added sugar to both steepings. With this tea you could simply enjoy the aroma and it would be enough. The scent is a little different from other jasmine teas that I have had. It is reminiscent slightly of bubble gum. The flavour was fairly light, but enjoyable as well. I will have to brew this at home to really see what it can do.

Nice black leaf tea with a good amount of golden tips. The aroma was definitely pleasing. I had this brewed at the store. It waa was a little remaniscent of Oolong Supreme. Different from a ceylon. Two steepings each 3 minutes. I would have it again.

drank Blueberry Matcha by DAVIDsTEA

This tea is YUMMY! I had it made at the store with a small volume of water and added plenty of sugar. Every sip was full of blueberry flavour. I generally don’t like the idea of wasting matcha with flavour, however I could definitely drink this. The matcha had a good green colour, and although the employees whisking technique was average, it produced foam.

This might be a good alternative to blueberry muffin for a fall tea, if you like matcha.

Most store employees seemed to like this flavour out of the matcha summer collection.
