525 Tasting Notes
Stomach feeling uneasy from dinner so a simple cup of peppermint will do for the night. This particular peppermint was acquired during my trip to Argentina last year. The flavor is not as strong and mentholy as I like my mint teas but it was smooth and soothing. Tummy problems solved!
Let’s start with the smell. It smells so chocolate-y and spicy and fruity. I was really looking forward to drinking this. Then while it was brewing, it smelled like hot chocolate with fruity spicy flavors. I let this steep for a good long while since I wanted maximum flavor. I knew I’d be adding milk and sugar.
At first sip, I was greeted by the slight burn from the spice. Then, a nice full chocolate flavor with a sour fruity finish. I was startled by the sourness. It seemed out of place with chocolate. Then I added my evaporated milk and honey and I got sort of used to the sour. It, however, remained a minor background buzzing that I couldn’t quite ignore. Hmm…I’d say this would be pretty near perfect if not for the fruity sourness. I’d consider getting more, but I’ll have to explore my options some more. :) I need to find that perfect chocolate spice herbal tea!
Thanks for sending this teataku!
Preparation
Dry leaves smelled like cinnamon raisin to me. The brewed tea definitely smells like cinnamon and brown sugar. Yum. I think I’m getting a bit of frosting in the smell too.
When I drink it, the honeybush base seems to be battling with the cinnamon roll flavor for dominance. I’m hoping the cinnamon roll will win, but they seem kinda evenly matched right now.
I added a bit of sugar to my second cup since it seemed like it should be tastier. I was wrong. I simply don’t like sweetener in my tea unless it’s chai or earl grey or some other black tea.
Preparation
Toasty and caramel-y. I’m not really picking up on the chocolate, but there does seem to be some sort of baked goods scent coming from my cup. There’s also something perfume-y and slightly artificial in the aftertaste.
There’s a strong wood flavor that I’m thinking is the honeybush. I think I don’t dislike it.
I feel like I’m the middle of the woods sniffing at slice of cake.
I might brew it stronger next time and add sugar and milk.
Preparation
Mmmmm… This tea is magical. It smells so delectably limey. I feel the brightness of the lemon all over my tongue. I get a sense of crust and cream cheese in the smell but not really the taste. There’s a smooth earthiness from the honeybush in the finish. There’s also a tingle in the back of my throat as I swallow. Kinda like a ghostly fizz. I love it. I also love that it’s not actually tart, but only hints at tartness. It’s very refreshing!
I’ve never had a honeybush tea before, but this is a good first impression. I definitely taste something similar to rooibus in this, but it lacks the strong medicinal flavor I associate with rooibus. I wonder what plain honeybush tastes like…
Anyway, I could drink tea this everyday! I can’t wait to try it cool.
Thank you LiberTEAS for the generous sample!
Edit: somewhere in my crazy mind I thought this was rooibus… I’ve fixed it so it doesn’t sound insane anymore.
Preparation
Mmm… tasty tea! I totally oversteeped this one. It was very astringent. I’m sure that if I had done a proper job, it would be way tastier. The cherry flavor is strong and a lot like dried cherries. The marzipan flavor is a bit weaker but still very present and very tasty! The green tea is crisp and grassy. Very nice.
I usually don’t do a second steep on bagged teas, but I did with this one and it was very pleasant. The green tea flavor is all but gone, but the cherry marzipan flavor is still going strong. Yum!
OVerall, this tea reminds me of cherry cordial candies. I always thought they were too sweet, but now I can indulge in the flavor without all the sugar. Nice!
I feel really guilty. I drank this while I was sick because I thought the citrus and honey combo would be good for my throat. Well, it made me feel better, but I have no idea what this tea tasted like. Now I really wish I had drunken something else because I’m really curious! Too bad I only had the one bag. I’ll bet it was good!
There is a strong taste of cinnamon and a barely there flavor of apple. There’s a slight sweetness from the fruit. There is an earthy base that might be either the chocolate or rooibus. Though I am not a rooibus fan, I didn’t really notice the medicinal flavor I usually associate rooibus in this one.
Despite the fact that there is no real noticeable chocolate flavor, I really enjoyed this tea. It was perfect with my apple pie. the flavors really worked together. :D
