1908 Tasting Notes
Was steeping this and another tea for my boyfriend and I accidently added honey to this tea instead of his. I don’t think I added much though since this isn’t tasting much sweeter than usual. The chamomile really is the dominent flavour in this tea with its naturally sweet, semi-creamy apple/pineapple flavour.
Preparation
Blargh! This tea is nasty! It so sour and not in a “you cheated and added hibiscus” way, more like “let’s make this as unpalatable as possible” way. I can’t even call this tea ‘tart’ as that implies that it has a bit of fruity-sweetness to it. Which is doesn’t. It starts off sour and then it gets an almost salty-savory taste in the mouth. The end is curiously bland and tasteless.
TEA FAIL, Lipton!!!
Preparation
Love cranberries… but hibiscus is just gross after a while. WHY is it so ubiquitous? It’s like, in everything tart that Lipton/Celestial Seasonings does, and it’s in a ton of loose leaf blends. I’m so sick of it that I’ve gotten wary of even drinking something with “hibiscus” in the title. Not that I hate it. It’s just so mediocre.
@Cofftea: I don’t mind cranberry juice, I wouldn’t be bitching as much if it had tasted that way. There were some other (nameless) herbs and fruits added to the tea according to the packet. Altogther it was not a good mix. DX
@Teaplz: I think hibiscus is so common because it’s a cheap, quick way of approximating the taste of various tart fruits. It’s used to simulate the taste of raspberry, pomegranate, gojiberry, blackberry, etc.
I love how sweet this tea smells, like riped, cooked fruit. But there’s also a faint floral scent that sneaks in underneath, making think that I’ve maybe buried my nose in a bunch of fresh-picked flowers. At this steeping time the flavour was more baked than fruity, but as the tea cooled the sweetness slowly worked its way back in. A definite win for H&S.
Preparation
The flavour to me is a combination of vegetal, nutty, and baked, and it’s on the verge of tasting like one of those “good for you” herbal drinks – but not quite. I don’t mind it but I feel like I want something a bit ‘more’ in it.
Preparation
I’m waiting for several tea orders and a bunch of X-mas cards that are supposedly in the mail, but the Canada Post truck has been and gone today without delivering anything to my door. sigh
So I’m consoling myself with this tea, which has suitably festive air about it.
Preparation
I was curious to try it. It’s too snowy out to really hoof it out to the real tea-sellers in Pittsburgh, so I’ve been trying out the teas in plain sight at my grocery store. I’ve been plowing through Celestial Seasonings and have been pleasantly surprised at how good their offerings can be.
Nice to know this one’s good. I might try it out.
I accidently let this oversteep, but all in all it’s a pretty hard tea to ruin as it turns out. The flavour of the rooibos was more prominent, which I wasn’t too fond of, but the lovely vanilla-caramel flavour was still there.
BTW the tag on the teabag (each one has a different quote) was: “Friendships are like snowflakes – there are never two alike”
Preparation
I found this tea as part of a loose-tea selection on a gourmet food website that had much more reasonable shipping fees than Kusmi’s website (score!)
As I open the tin I’m struck with the mouth-watering odor of marzipan and I’m surprised when I don’t see any almond slivers mixed in with the tea. As the tea steeps, the scent of green tea slowly creeps back in. When I take a sip I can clearly taste the nuttiness of the tea base which meshes very nicely with the almond. It’s a very sweet almond flavour too, and not artifical at all, in my opinion. As I drink more of the tea it seems to build up in the mouth, becoming more prominent.
I’m in love with sweet almond and marzipan so I seems only natural that I love this tea. It’s clearly not powerful, robust breakfast fare, but I think It would be a wonderful dessert tea.
Preparation
Sounds intriguing. Ever since Teavana discontinued their Rose Marzipan flavor I’ve been on the lookout for a good replacement.
@Bethany: It’s a Canadian website so I have no idea what their international shipping fees are like, but they have a really neat selection of specialty food items you can order (I want to try their Marinated Cattail Hearts).

@Suzi: I never tried any of Teavana’s teas so I’m not sure how it might compare but IMO this tastes pretty damn, good! ;)
