Out of curiosity I steeped this longer to see if I could maybe get a bit more cherry flavour out of the tea. In the end all I got was stronger white. Actually that does seem to be a quality of flavoured white tea. *shrug *

5 minutes is a bit long to steep this tea, I think, as the flavour of the tea is overwhelming the apricot taste at this point.

drank Pina Colada Honeybush by 52teas

This tea is excellent iced. I sweetened it a bit with honey while it was brewing and really all it needs is a bit of milk and a dash of rum and voila – pina colada!

I steeped it less and got a bit more grass and bit less burnt popcorn. I noticed that it also has a bit of a smoother feel in the mouth aswell. Interesting, I think I like it more at this steeping time.

One of the teas I got from TeaEqualsBliss, and one of her own creation I think, too.

It smells mostly like chocolate with a hint of something sweet and fruity underneath. The flavour profile is similar too, a bit of chocolate and something vaguely orange-y – I would’ve liked a bit more orange I think.

Yup! This was one of my first blend attempts over at Adagio…I have found using at least a Tablespoon’s worth (or more) makes a lot of difference :)

Jillian

But wouldn’t that make for a hideously strong cup?

TeaEqualsBliss

It is quite strong…yes…I like mine strong tho…lol…

A steeping time of 3:30 seems like a good balance between extracting the full flavour of the tea and not oversteeping it to the point of it being too spicy-sweet.

drank Citron Oolong by Rishi Tea
1908 tasting notes

Thanks for letting me try this tea Lena, this is the first Rishi tea I’ve been able to get my hands on and it’s a fun one!

When I opened the little tuperware container the sample came in I was instantly hit with a wave of sweet orange. It smelled very much like fresh orange juice, or maybe orange Froot Loops, like some people have suggested, lol. It’s interesting that the most prominent component of the dry tea seem to be jasmine blossoms, but yet they don’t seem to add very much to the scent.

When I added the water however the odor changed to more of a lemon scent. The curled-up oolong leaves, which when dry looked rather disapointingly small, unfurled and took up a surpring amount of space in the strainer.

The taste is like orangy-lemongrass with the oolong coming in rather subtly. As the tea cooled it got sweeter too, almost like some sugar had been added to it. Or, you know, if it was secretly made out of Froot Loops. ;)

Oooh yum-eh! This tea is so sweet and creamy with a bit of honey and some milk – like strawberry shortcake in a tea cup.

The stuff in the mesh pyramid teabag looks interesting; I can see bits of citrus peel in addition to the lemongrass, what looks like some calendula petals, and other bits and pieces – in addtion to the green tea. It smells primarily of green tea and lemongrass and I’m not picking up anything I might identify as cucumber, but what does dried cucumber smell like anyway?

The steeping parameters raised my eyebrows – 4-5 min at 95 ºC – for a tea with (supposedly) sencha in it. So I backed off the temperature a good 10 degrees which might have been a mistake since the resulting tea was disappointingly weak. It mostly tastes like a lemongrass infusion with a few other vague herbally things mixed in. I’ll lay off rating this tea until I give it another go follwing the steeping instructions more closely.

I’m a university student in her twenties who’s currently working her way toward a Bachelor of Natural Resource Science degree. I love both science and science-fiction and I’m a history nut on top of that. Maybe I should just call myself a nerd and leave it there. ;)

I’ve been drinking tea since I was young but it’s only in the past couple years that I’ve become interested in the good-quality stuff.
