865 Tasting Notes
Made this w/ my new sifter today! http://www.lupiciausa.com/product_p/41401682.htm My chawan is the perfect diameter. I can rest the sifter on the edge of it while I scoop in the matcha and it is held up by the handle on one side and a metal loop on the other. It’s a very fine mesh- almost too fine for my matcha. Don’t really notice a taste or texture difference though…
Preparation
A new bag. Ok, now bear w/ me. I’m going to attempt to make this chai w/ milk. I’ve never added milk to a green chai before. I just can’t fathom the combo. So here it goes…
1 bag (steeped an extra min to compensate for the milk) steeped in 3oz water, then added 3oz milk and reheated.
Ok… Um… Ew… The liquor (is it still called that when it’s part milk?) is a yellowy-green color that makes it look really raunchy except for it isn’t chunky.
The aroma is that of a very light chai, but I don’t smell the milk so I’m absolutely thrilled!
Ok… Um… Wow… I’m shocked… This didn’t make me puke! The spices come across 1st, then the creamyness of the milk (but no hot milk taste thank God), and last the green tea. I’m surprised that can be tasted.
Conclusions: Not nearly as horrible as I expected, but I wouldn’t drink it this way again. Milk spoils the wonderful flavor of the green tea.
Preparation
From Janefan!=D
I find it weird that there are both real cardamom and cinnamon as well as cardamom and cinnamon favors. Weird and stupid. On the up side, the bag weighs 2.3g=D
When I take the bag out of the wrapper cardamom is the dominant smell which is refreshing because a lot of chais are way over board on the cinnamon.
I decided to steep this for 3 min because I’m drinking this clean and I didn’t want the tea to get bitter or the spices to over power it.
The liquor is darker than your average unflavored green tea due to the spices and the aroma is a good blance of tea and spice, most of which is cardamom.
The flavor is much like the aroma, except there is an added sweetness from the green tea. A very good bagged tea.

My 1st Lupica order! I needed a matcha sifter so I picked up their tea strainer and decided to make my order free shipping and magazine qualifying. 1st some notes on Lupica: Pretty quick shipping/delivery time. Ordered late last Fri afternoon, was shipped on Monday, and got here at 9am this morning. On a side note, boy is my FedEx person precise! Both times I’ve had something delivered via FedEx s/he’s gotten here at almost exactly 8:50am. Free shipping on orders $35 and up. Each order at this price also qualifies you for a 1 year subscription to their monthly magazine that comes w/ a free sample. If you place a 2nd order at this level before your subscription is up, your new subscription expiration date is a year from your latest $35 purchase. Free sample w/ purchase (which unfortunately is listed on your shipping confirmation so it isn’t a surprise. I got 2 though (this one was a surprise), is that because I also qualified for the magazine? Tracking number provided.
I was thrilled to get this! This is what I call a psuedo flavored matcha- tea that’s meant to be decanted, but also contains matcha. Another surprise- the description mentions nothing about rose petals, but there are several gorgeous rose petals in this pyramid bag. When I weighed the bag I was pleasantly surprised at the weight- 3.3g!
The raw leaf is exactly what you’d expect. The matcha, strawberry, vanilla, and rose are all evident. It’s definitely sweet and doesn’t smell jammy like I expected- probably because strawberry is only one of 4 aromas and flavors here.
I knocked the temperature down just a couple degrees from the suggested boiling temp, but otherwise steeped it as suggested: 5oz water for 2min.
Odd… the liquor is quit translucent except for the matcha that settled at the bottom. Not like mecha or herb green. The translucent liquor is a lovely golden color.
It smells exactly like the raw leaf. The vanilla added to the strawberry kinda makes it smell like strawberry milk.
Served clean. Lupicia says it pairs well w/ milk (it’s even in their tea latte sampler), but I don’t like strawberry milk, so I’ll pass.
It also tastes like it smells… well pretty much. The strawberry, vanilla, and rose are the dominant flavors w/ the rose being the weakest of the 3. The decanted green tea is also in the back ground, but unfortunately my suspicions looking at the liquor were confirmed. I didn’t tasted the matcha til the last half of the cup, and even then it was weak. Maybe I should have stirred it? All in all a good tea, but I wish the matcha was stronger. 52teas should definitely come up w/ a strawberry, rose, vanilla matcha!=D
Preparation
This is one of the teas I’ve had from Lupicia that I really miss now that I’ve used it all up. I really enjoyed it quite a bit. I bought the loose version instead of teabags, so I’m glad to know that the teabags are enjoyable as well. It’s so much easier to carry teabags when I go out to eat.
Mom’s been up all nite working on a paper so I thought I’d make her a cup of this.
I too live with my mom (at least for this semester anyway). She drinks tea from tea bags and refuses to try some of mine! Grrrrr…
This should be an interesting review… I told Ricky I didn’t want this because I hate anything banana except fresh ones, but he sent it to me anyway. So here it goes=D
I’m not sure because they don’t say on their website, but by the looks of it I’m guessing that they use the same base for this as their pineapple green. I can also guess that this will be another disappointing tea due to the lack of banana pieces, infact I only had enough for one in my cup.
Wow… I wasn’t expecting that. This smells nothing like the pineapple green. Maybe it’s not the same base after all. There’s no smoky earthiness, instead there’s a little astringency and almost a salty note. It’s also brothy in texture. I was right about the flavor though. No banana. I was completely ready to swallow my opinions and give this a 100 for accuracy, but I can’t. It’s a great tea, but it’s not banana. I love this- which is good for my tongue, but bad for the review.
Preparation
You should see how many bananas are in my pouch ;) (Basically none, same with the pineapple). More of whatever the tea base is. Oh well. Figured you should try the rest of The Tea Farm’s teas =]
