Popular Tasting Notes
Next in line from mom’s tea cabinet. I’ve had this one before, it’s a decent, solid green tea blend. I’m normally not a huge fan of blends, but this one is OK. Hints of grass and wet straw almost overwhelm the green tea flavor, but it’s still a good mix. Nice and tasty.
And, as the name intends, it is certainly quite soothing. Zen indeed.
Preparation
I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. As another taster noted, it’s a great balance between cost and quality. It tolerates accidental overbrewing quite nicely, so I frequently choose it when brewing while getting ready for work (when I’m easily distracted and forget to push the plunger in time!). Similar to an English Breakfast but without some of the woody, forward notes. Gentler tannins. Great with a bit of milk and sugar, and quite amenable to a second brew off the leaves.
Preparation
Summary: Inexpensive for age buy from YS. Starts bitter and finishes bland floral, with heavy mineral feel throughout.
Prep: 5g, 60cc gaiwan, boiling. Rinse, 10s, increasing from there for about 13 steeps.
Sessions with this tea: 3.
Taste: Starts off with old leather, mild bitterness, somewhat heavy mineral but more of a mouthfeel than a flavor. I don’t get any tobacco notes as previous reviews mention. Sweetens over time, but never becomes sweet, most of the bitterness drops out. Slightly hint of floral in later steeps, but ultimately it becomes almost bland.
Body: not pleasant drying sensation in the jaw, tingles back of the head, solid feeling in the chest, gives medium jittery energy. Mouthfeel is mineral throughout.
Flavors: Leather, Mineral
Preparation
This tea smells and tastes great!!! It smells like fresh baked pumpkin pie and it tastes almost the same (the smell is sweet but being that this is a black tea, without sweetener you can taste the flavours, just not the sweetness that you smell).
Preparation
I snagged a couple teaspoons of this from a friend who had a major Teavana haul, and I was pretty excited because the stuff smells so good! It smells pretty minty with a distinct green tea hint that I was itching to try out.
After popping it into my teapot and setting it to steep for a minute or two, I poured it out and took a sip. I was…disappointed. The taste was pretty flat. I threw the strainer basket back in, while the water was still piping hot, and let it steep for another couple minutes. I poured another cup and was met with the same result. Bland, flat green tea, with a minty scent but no minty taste.
Thinking maybe it hadn’t steeped long enough, I boiled up more water for a second steep after finishing what I had already brewed. I let it steep for longer, only to be met with the same results, if not worse. This time, just uninspired green tea, with no mint to be found anywhere. I’m glad I only had a sample instead of a whole bag.
Preparation
Excellent tea. Very smooth and relatively light. Definite scent of grapefruit. Tastes of peach and grapefruit, of course without the citric acid. Has some natural sweetness. My kind of tea – a bit of natural flavor, but not “flavored”!
I also noticed that this tea is devoid of the typical “earthy” oolong taste. Not a bad thing, but be aware if that’s what you’re looking for.
Flavors: Grapefruit, Peach
Preparation
Ok, let’s start right off and say this tea SMELLS DELICIOUS in bag and steeped. It’s seriously a cup of scent heaven. And happily, the scent doesn’t disappoint. This tea is very obviously meant to be sweet, but it comes off as a nice balance between spice, a hint of chocolate, and tea-ness that makes it a really great desert tea. I probably wouldn’t drink it at dinner time, but I can see this making a great tea time treat.
And unlike a lot of teas, it would be a great one for kids as well. Rooibos is caffeine free, and the rest has very little caffeine either, so in small quantities it would make a nice treat for the tea drinking kid in your life. The cinnamon and orange scent is lovely and dominates the in-bag smell, but the overall taste is the vanilla chai with a hint of chocolate and cloves.
It’s frackin cake in a glass, seriously.
I betting this tea tastes great with cream or sugar. Sadly, I am lactose intolerant and I hate sugar in my tea (yes, even honey). Next time I try it I’ll have to go out and get some more almond milk, though, because I’m betting that would just make it taste even richer.
