Popular Tasting Notes
It’s alright. Not among the better chai blends of the world, or even among the better Celestial Seasonings blends. The coconut and tea flavors are there, just kind of weak. Being caffeine-free is a nice touch, too. The one thing this tea really has going for it is mouthfeel. It’s very creamy on the palate. I usually pair it with an evening dessert—right now it’s complimenting a carrot-coconut cupcake rather nicely. I’m sure I’ll finish the box, but I doubt I’ll buy it again.
This thing actually was my first touch to world of green tea, it was a mistake. No wonder if someone hates green tea because they’ve tasted this. Color is not even green it is brown or something and this artificial lemon. And those leaf bits in that bag, yuck. Also it is reeeally bitter if done with 100C like the bag suggests, do it with 80C and it’s not THAT horrible.
Preparation
Smells like roasted banana sprinkled with powdered cocoa. rather artificial but quite warming.
Tastes definitely more like pear and the cocoa fortunately turned more into chocolate. Some earthy and malty notes from the base tea are also present.
All in all it’s not a bad one. Too artificial but soothing and warming.
Flavors: Chocolate, Cocoa, Earth, Malt, Pear
Preparation
Today’s random steepin is a food pairing of Humpty Dumpty Cheese Sticks (Puffs really) with Japanese House matcha.
The matcha was prepared with 120 mL of water and one teaspoon of powder.
I choose the cheese puffs based on how long the cheese flavour lasted. You get a real salty flavour.
Reading the ingredient list there is real cheese and also msg which should be interesting with matcha. The idea is to alternate tea and snack as opposed to drinking them together. This makes the matcha super refreshing, but also shortens how long it lasts in taste. You will also feel like you want two bowls instead of one. It goes quickly.
I also like to add sugar to my matcha. I got the acidity of the green tea for sure. The lovely greeness contrasts the orange colour of a cheese puff. There was definitely some good flavour in the matcha, and I do believe the contrast brought it out.
This matcha has been sitting for about a month since it was opened, and I think it may be moving towards a vegetable flavour.
Next time I might try a spicy Dorito. :)
I like to think of this tea as my guilty pleasure tea.
To modify that old Animal Farm quote, i’d like to say that all tea is created equal, but some are more equal than others. Rag on Teavana all I want, they can sometimes spit out a pretty good tea.
The base oolong they use for this tea smells wonderfully floral and honeydew-ish in it’s own right. Adding pieces of apple, orange and hibiscus actually accentuate the flavor of the tea, rather than cover up, as many other flavored teas that I have tried.
Flavors: Apple, Berries, Orange, Orchid
