658 Tasting Notes
So, yeah. Caramel corn. I expected more of a genmaicha approach when I first heard about this tea, but it’s quite potently sweet. A bit too sweet for me, actually. I steeped for five minutes and thirty seconds and might try decreasing that because it’s a touch overwhelming. I also wish this had a bit more to do with green tea; I actually think being able to taste the green tea behind this would work really well. This smells absolutely incredible in the tin and also once steeped, but I don’t think the flavour compares very well. It’s watery but sweet.
But, it is tasty. I wish it were a little less abrasively sweet but won’t really complain about something that tastes like caramel popcorn!
This is really great cold. I cold-brewed it and it was tasty after only a couple hours but it’s been infusing continuously while I drink my giant pitcher. The lemon makes it so refreshing and the creaminess makes it feel indulgent. I feel like I am never going to drink water again.
I’ve become totally overwhelmed by the number of teas I have spilling all over my kitchen. I’m going to ramp up my efforts to get through them. One way I’ll attempt this is keeping a big pitcher of cold tea at the ready so that I drink it constantly. I’m also closing in on my bucket of samples and odds and ends.
Like this one. This sample has been open for quite some time but was never finished. Why? I don’t know. It’s quite tasty. It came out a bit weak today but I should have steeped it longer and I added a good amount of milk. I’m getting more chocolate this time than the first time I tried this, and am really enjoying the gentle spices.
This is so very good. I seem to want it every day, even today despite the warm weather, and am really wishing I got more. I must drink a lot more tea before allowing myself to buy any more, but I’m going to be upset to run out of this creamy, sweet, spicy, kukicha goodness.
I unfortunately didn’t make it to a Yumchaa shop during my stay in London but I did find one of their stalls in a market. They didn’t have their entire selection available, but it was just enough to make it fun to choose. And I scooped up 300 grams of tea for £12, probably half of what I would pay for anything at home.
This one didn’t jump out at me. I find ginseng not unpleasant but very distinctive and straight-up herbally tasting. It’s kind of like chamomile for me. Anyway, the man at the stall said this was his favourite which prompted me to take a sniff and a closer look. I noticed the vanilla and yoghurt and was intrigued. I try (and usually forget) to take ginseng in capsules, so why not get it in some tea for that price?
This is nice. The ginseng is very much there but it’s smoothed out by the vanilla and creaminess. An interesting blend. I was getting a citrus note and confused by it until I re-read the ingredients and noticed the lemon and lemongrass. Nicely balanced and subtle. I’m quite pleased with the quality of sencha in this and the other green I bought, as well.
Sounds interesting, I am tempted to order this one ( they do some email ordering). What other two did you get?
It is interesting, and a nice change. I also got the Mango Sunrise which I’ve only had cold (but it was very nice) and Notting Hill, which I haven’t tried yet. I picked up some Lemon Sherbert for my mother who can’t have caffeine so I will hopefully get to try that, too.
Their prices are so reasonable I’m going to be tempted to order by email, too!
And, of course, thank you for the suggestion of Yumchaa! I probably wouldn’t have found them there otherwise.
You are welcome , I found them by accident myself. But I really like their teas, the quality is very nice and the balance of the tastes is just right for me, even when it sounds unlikely, it all tastes balanced and just right. And for some of their blends ended being total essentials for me – I think I am now on my 4th pack of Berry Berry Nice!
I will try this one soon as well, it sounds lovely.
