1024 Tasting Notes
So today’s teaventures went BETTER THAN EXPECTED. Series of events:
1. noted cooler weather and allowed self to pull out the argo tea winter samplers
2. picked ‘winter spice’ because it reminded me of my dwindling supply of cinnamon somersault
3. got disappointed that the argo blend wasn’t anywhere near as awesome as cinnamon somersault
4. looked up cinnamon somersault on the t2 website to compare the ingredients
5. flipped out at seeing cinnamon somersault back in stock because last i’d heard that was never happening
6. BOUGHT SOME MORE CINNAMON SOMERSAULT
7. DRANK SOME CINNAMON SOMERSAULT TO CELEBRATE
This seems to keep happening to me! Southern Sunrise was a blend I fell madly in love with a couple of summers ago, it was supposed to just be a limited edition Christmas blend. It’s now in the official range. Now Cinnamon Somersault is back in stock after months of hearing it was a limited edition that wouldn’t ever come back. All I need is the trifecta now—come on, Shimmer Punch restock.
Ahhhh, I’m so happy. I don’t have to continue to sparsely eke out the dwindling remains in my cupboard because Cinnamon Somersault is BACK, BABY.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Orange Zest
As we head toward winter in the great southern land I am finally letting myself crack out the trio of wintry tea samplers I picked up from Argo Tea in the Flatiron building in NYC.
Looking at the trio closely, this one is the one I was most drawn to. It has a lot of similar ingredients/flavour indicators as one of my favourite tisanes ever, T2’s Cinnamon Somersault.
I am getting slightly bitter notes from the amount of cinnamon in this, but though I’m not getting a lot of orange, the almond is just nice without being "essence"y. Not bad. It’s no Cinnamon Somersault, but it’s not bad. I might try splicing it with some Cocoa Loco Orange and see if that’s closer to my sweet spot.
Another bonus from my swap with Scheherazade but unfortunately this one isn’t right up my alley. I first steeped it in the timolino at work the other day and worried that the metallic taste I was getting from it was due to the timolino, but today I’ve brewed in glass and served in china and it’s still tinny in my mouth. I guess that’s green tea though! I haven’t had green for a while, maybe I’ve just forgotten how to drink it…
Preparation
Another joyous discovery, another sad farewell! This is a delicately flavoured black tea that I look forward to restocking once I reduce my current flavoured black tea stocks! This one will make a lovely breakfast tea for guests to replace the Melbourne Breakfast I have tinned at the moment. Drink up, guests!
Sipdown of this delicious sample from the Monstrositea March box! I aaaaaaalmost added a touch of Tea Leaves’ Black Almond Vanilla to my last steep of Truly Scrumptious but I chickened out at the last minute in case it didn’t work and I ruined the last of this treat.
The scent of this tea is out of this world. I love it. Bit of huffing from me… tastes so lovely and sweet too. Do recommend.
Upping my rating of this sample from a swap with Scheherazade (I think I’ve finally got the spelling of that down without having to check, too) for a couple of reasons:
1. The second steep of the first brew went pretty well earlier today, but slightly more importantly-
2. Steeped in a mug at home for dessert tonight and for some reason it felt like the blend tasted a lot better. Do I have to come to terms with the fact that the timolino isn’t the best choice for some infusions? I feel like Elderflower Champagne should be drunk from bone china, that’s how much I enjoyed it tonight! Despite not even drinking it from bone china. Ha! Perhaps my second steep of the second sample brew shall have to be done that way…
Honestly, as sad as it is, I think it’s just true that some teas do not bode well in a travel mug.
Agreed with keychange. Some things are better in home mugs than travel mugs. When I used to get a ride into work in the mornings at one of my old jobs, I’d bring a ceramic mug full of my morning tea with me. It was the best.
