768 Tasting Notes
I placed a small order from A Quarter To Tea and was surprised to have received a small sample of this. And a lovely re-usable tea bag!
I have to say I really liked this tea. I don’t have much of a sense of smell, which is a pity, because I’m sure this smells fantastic. I swear I could smell a hint of alcohol, like hot rum. I brewed this Western style and got a nice, smooth tea with a bit of natural sweetness. A definite re-order for me.
Preparation
Nice. A little sweet. Slightly woody from the rooibos. I thought I had created a tasting note on this one before, but I don’t see it. This isn’t one I will be picking up again, but I don’t think I’ll have any trouble drinking up the 2 ounces I have. It’s beautifully cool tonight, just right for a non caffeinated tea.
It is 79 degrees out there with 93% humidity. Normally, not a day for brewing hot tea (for me). But thanks to the modern miracle of air conditioning, I brewed tea today. First I brewed a pot of the Ginger Peach from the brand spanking new tea shop down the road from me. Blech. Bitter. Very bitter. But I’m not going to write a tea note for that yet. I let it brew about 90 seconds longer than the package indicated. Sometimes that’s all it takes to ruin might otherwise be a good tea. I’ll try that one again at a later date. Meanwhile, to get rid of that bitter taste, I went with a tea I knew was hard to wreck.
I love Golden Monkey teas. This one is so smooth, so rich. It is almost sweet without any additives. Really, you can’t go wrong with a straight black like this one. Just a delight to drink.
OMG! OMG!!! Fargo, North Dakota, USA now has a tea shop!! It’s called STEEP ME a Cup of Tea and it opened only two weeks ago. It’s a 15 minute drive from my place. I heard about it today on Facebook and immediately drove over there. I had an appointment to get my glasses so I wasn’t able to linger. However, I did manage to spend the rest of my birthday money in 5 minutes. :)
I picked up an ounce of this one, Extra Spicy Chai, and an ounce of Ginger Peach. Late this afternoon I brewed up a pot of it. I know most people enjoy milk in their Chai, but I never put milk in my tea. I know, I know, I’m a barbarian.
Anyway, the color is a rich amber, not as dark as a Scottish breakfast tea or as light as some white teas, but a nice rich golden brown. The flavor is good. It’s a typical chai blend. Nothing outstanding, but very nice. The rooibos isn’t especially noticeable, so that’s good. As for “Extra” spicy, I think the Good Earth Original is spicier than this. But I had no trouble finishing the entire pot. :)

Today was one of those September days when it is sunny and stuffy so you put the air conditioner on. Then you get cold so you turn it off. Then you turn it back on. Then, off. I finally decided to leave the darned air on and just brew some tea to warm me up. I decided on this one because it says “Fall” to me. And it was very tasty and warm. :)
Oh boy, oh,boy! It’s quite COLD this morning. I really LOVE it! It’s such perfect tea drinking weather. I brewed up a whole pot of this and the first sip reminded me why I like this tea so much. Smooth. Rich. Warm. Just one of my favorite teas for chilly mornings. I know we’ll have warm weather again before fall really hits, and after fall is winter. But I’ll just enjoy this morning and not worry about those things. And drink tea.
Yesterday afternoon, as I was driving home from the dentist (a cracked tooth will need a root canal and then a crown. Ouch!) I got caught in rain. Not a little rain. No, it was a deluge that would have caused Noah’s Ark to capsize. I couldn’t see the front of my car. I managed to pull off into a fast food place parking lot and wait out the heaviest of the rain. I got home and by the time I walked from my car to the apartment door, I was soaked. I left wet footprints all down the hall to my apartment. I made a pot of this old favorite. So warm, so tasty. I really do enjoy this one, and with low caffeine I can drink it around supper time and not worry about not being able to sleep. Let’s hear it for “comfort teas”!
By the way, I have a chicken named Maddy! She is one of my favorites and is quite the rascal. She gets out of the pen all the time – I am sure she is flying over the tall fence, but she always trots obediently at my heels and goes back in when I tell her to she must. Her real name is Madeline because she is a French Cuckoo Marans. She is sweet and adorable little doll even if she is a rascal.
Had a lovely time camping on Lake Winnipeg by Gimli over the long weekend. Hot and humid on Saturday. Rainy and cool on Sunday. Monday was beautiful, of course, since we packed up and left in the morning. On Sunday I attended a tea party with home baked scones, delicious jams, jellies, and clotted cream, and a variety of teas. I chose to drink this oolong. I enjoyed it very much. Not enough, I don’t think, to rush out and buy any. but it was very mellow and smooth. Also welcome, as Sunday was on the cool side and I was wet. The scone with ginger jelly was a very tasty accompaniment to the tea.
I’m off tomorrow to go camping on Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba for the long weekend. I decided to bring this tea with me. It’s not going to be tremendously hot or cold, around 23 or 24 during the day and 16 at night. But it is supposed to rain off and on most of the weekend, so a hot tea will be exactly what I need. This one will be perfect. I haven’t had it in a long while, so I brewed a cup tonight. Strong and malty but not bitter. And the bags will make it even more convenient. So, wish me luck!
