I donated this one to my church a few weeks ago. We have Several ladies and a few men who like to drink tea. We have a fellowship meal on Wednesday nights. The woman in charge of the meals brewed a pot of this and a pot of another tea for tonight.

Ah, it is better than I remembered it being. We came out of a blizzard warning this morning, but the wind is still blowing so I was darned cold. There is nothing like a cup of hot tea to perk you up.

Evol Ving Ness

Yep, so much appreciation for a cup of tea to warm your hands and your spirit when you come in from the cold.

I really enjoy this one when I have it from time to time.

DAVID’s TEA Advent Calendar Day 6:

Um. Maybe I didn’t brew it long enough or use enough tea. This one was like warmed up water to me with a faint tangy flavor. It was very light in color. I will try it again and rate it then.

So far I haven’t had any clear winners with the advent calendar. There have been some pleasant teas, but no Wow, knock my socks off teas. Of course, we still have 18 days to go!

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 4 min, 0 sec 2 tsp 6 OZ / 177 ML
ashmanra

This was my first big meh from the calendar. I loved coffee cake.

ashmanra

I also leafed the pot quite heavily, I must say. Mine was very apple-y indeed.

Maddy Barone

I wasn’t thrilled with Coffee Cake. However, I will try it again. Sometimes it take a couple of tries to get it right.

DAVID’S TEA Advent Calendar Day 5

Man, I love having a tea advent calendar! This is one I almost bought 50 grams of. I’m glad I didn’t. I don’t hate it. In fact, it’s nice. The pineapple is present, and there is a hint of bread in the background. Mind you, my sense of smell is on the fritz tonight, so I bet it has a lot more subtle flavors than I am getting. It’s probably not fair to compare it to some of the “bready” teas I’ve had from 52Teas like their Pancake Breakfast tea (which i loved!) All in all, a pleasant cup, but nothing to rush out and re-order.

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 30 sec 1 tsp 6 OZ / 177 ML

Today at work was horrible. Horrible. Luckily I was able to brew a cup of this on my afternoon break. I don’t know why I love this one so much. It’s probably not the height of tea. But it has a solid black base that is neither astringent nor bitter. The teensy little candy canes add a fun, whimsical touch of sweetness. Work would have gone much worse without this tea to get me through. It’s a good thing I like it so well, as I ordered 100 grams of it. :)

Rosehips

I love this one too. I feel like its especially good on a horrible day. I hope things are better soon!

Maddy Barone

Thanks! Tomorrow will be better.

Advent Calendar Day 4. This is called Serenity Now, and boy, do I need some serenity! MY upstairs neighbors have a son who is autistic. He is prone to rages and about 4 or 5 times a week he jumps and stamps so hard that my pictures rattle on the wall. Literally. One small picture fell off the top shelf of my desk and smashed against the corner of the coffee table. I have complained to the landlord, and they replaced the carpet. Nice, but not terribly effective. They say they can’t do anything aobut it.

Anyway, on to the tea. This has hibiscus which is normally a complete turn off for me, but it’s not horrible here. There is a hint of tang, but also some sweetness here. The color is quite rich and dark, and the flavor is decent. I won’t add this to an order. I don’t like it that well. But I can drink another cup or two to finish off the little jar.

I’m really glad to have a chance to try so many different kinds of tea that I normally would never order. And it gives me something to look forward to.

ETA: As it cools, the hibiscus becomes much more prominent. Definitely not a cold brew for me.

David’s Tea Advent Calendar Day 3.

No. Just no. I don’t care for green teas. They taste rather like glass clippings that have sat out in a hot sun after a rain. I would never ordered this, but since it was part of the advent calendar I decided to give it a try. You don’t know if you don’t try, right?

I tried it. That is all.

I am not giving this one a rating because I don’t think it’s fair. I don’t like green teas. But this might be a superb tea for those who do enjoy green tea.

Arby

I’m definitely with you there on green teas. While I love genmaicha and a few strongly flavoured greens, I find most are really stemy/grassy and/or astringent and bitter. I feel like green tea is the outlier in that even yellow and most white teas still have that “tea” flavour, but greens for some reason are a completely different entity.

Today I cleaned out my tea drawer! I decided I just had to get it better organized. In the first half of November I attended a bridal shower/tea party. I used up quite a bit of tea for that, plus gave some away to those who really liked a tea. So I didn’t know what I still had. I found several little sample sized pouches with only a Tablespoon left. My goal for the year is to sip those down. One of those was this tea. When the tea from David’s advent calendar for today was Jumpy Money, I decided to finish this one off instead. Nothing wrong with Jumpy Monkey, but I’m drinking tea right before bed, so I decided to skip that one for now.

This tea is about a year old, but it still tastes good. Mild and faintly minty. A very nice evening cup!

Day One in my DAVID’s Tea Advent Calendar. This is the first year I’ve ever managed to snare one before they were gone! You can imagine how pleased I am to be able to open the first door.

So many people have given this tea a low rating that I was almost afraid to try it. It’s not as bad as I expected it to be. Nothing I’ll rush out and buy 50 grams of, but certainly drinkable. My first few sips were sort of meh. But the mint began to grow on me. It borders on toothpaste-ish, but the creamy chocolate helps mellow that out. I may have under leafed it, which is probably good.

I’m glad to have had a chance to try this one but I’m glad I don’t have a lot of it to finish off. :)

My DAVID’s tea order came! Wow, that was fast. I placed my order on MONDAY and it arrived today. Hard to decide what to try first.

It looks like a lot of people love this tea. I like it. It’s pleasant. Quite nice. Not a knock my socks off tea. I may have under leafed it as the color remained quite pale. I will certainly try it again.

I had this one last night. Finished off the packet from last year and then went online to order 4 more ounces. I know, I know, I said I wasn’t ordering any more tea. But come on, shipping was free. Last time I ordered from DAVID’s the shipping was almost as much as the cost of the tea! I also ordered a couple of gifts. One of the ladies in my knitting circle just discovered tea. She always thought tea was bitter and unhappy, but I supplied some tea for a baby shower and she now is interested in try lots of different blends. Win!!

Evol Ving Ness

4 more ounces! You go girl!

I need to investigate this tea further.

Maddy Barone

I guess it’s really nothing special. Just black tea with teensy candy canes to sweeten it. But I like it. It’s a warm cup that I especially like over the holidays.

Bio

I love cats. I love alone time. I love sitting indoors on a cold winter night with a book or my knitting while drinking tea. I don’t have a sense of smell, so many of the more subtle flavors of tea escape me. Two of the things I CAN taste are bitter and sour, so any tea that has even a slightly bitter taste is nasty for me. And what others might perceive as pleasant tartness may be horribly sour for me.

I’m also a writer. I love writing, and a mug of hot tea helps me get through the hours sitting in front of the computer. Although I’m a comparatively new tea drinker, I’m jumping in feet first. Feel free to recommend any teas you think I might enjoy.

100-91 – Wowza! I want to keep this tea in the cupboard all the time.
75-90 – Very nice. It would be good to have this tea on hand from time to time.
60-74 – OK. Wouldn’t keep it in the cupboard, but I would drink it again.
45-59 – If a friend served this I would drink it to be polite, but it’s not really my cuppa.
Lower than 45 – Blech. It was too sour or bitter for my taste. Would not drink it again.
