768 Tasting Notes
Today has been cold and super windy. I drank two cups of coffee, then started on tea. I really love this breakfast tea. It is a staple in my tea cupboard. I was going to call it plain, but this isn’t plain. it is rich and satisfying, not one bit bitter or astringent or any of the things I don’t like. Happy sigh.
Woke up with a headache and a sore throat that has morphed into a jarring cough. Cold 911 to the rescue. I don’t know if it actually treats any symptoms, but it’s a nice thing to drink with a sore throat. You might think a “medicinal” tea would taste nasty, but it doesn’t. Soothing warmth for the win.
Why save this for December? I have about 20 grams of it left from last year. I better drink it up. It’s a little old maybe, but the flavor is still excellent. This is one of my favorite Christmas teas. It’s not fancy, just a nice black base with a side of peppermint and a dash of something a teeny bit creamy.
Yum. I think I like it now more than I did when I first got it in my DAVID’s advent calendar last year. I liked it enough then to order 50 grams of it, but I haven’t had much of it yet. That will change in the next few months.
The color was paler than I expected, so I double checked my temperature, amount of tea, and steeping time. Nope, those were right. So I decided it was done in spite of its pale color. I think I was right. This is a yummy dessert tea and it doesn’t need to be stronger. Definitely a hit.I’ve always liked this one. Smooth and naturally sweet and creamy. It really is a dessert tea! This morning it was a touch astringent, though. Maybe I stepped it too long? Or maybe the creaminess is fading with age? I still have about 7 or 8 tea bags of this. so I’ll give it another try soon.
It’s rainy today. The temp is around 60. Feeling quite like fall. I had to go out and came home cold and wet. What is a tea lover to do? I dug deep in the tea drawer for my “fall” teas and came up with this one. I like the smoke flavor. It’s not overpowering and the spice comes out nicely. Just a lovely tea on a chilly and damp afternoon.
I really, really like this tea. I put it to steep and forgot about it for twenty five minutes. I went to rescue it, kicking myself all the way. I was afraid it would be horrible. But it’s not! No bitterness at all. Maybe that’s the honey bush? What a lovely tea for a cool evening in late summer. If you enjoy mellow, sweet-ish dessert teas with no caffeine, I highly recommend this one.
I made homemade gingerbread. I clearly needed to drink tea with it. The ginger was quite strong, along with the molasses and nutmeg, etc, so I decided on a plain tea. Here is one I hadn’t had lately. It was a good choice. Smooth and rich, it complemented the gingerbread perfectly. Some tea, especially straight black teas, can be a bit bitter. Not this one. An excellent tea!
I’ve been going through my tea stash to decide what I’d like to order come fall. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve ordered from What-Cha, so I’ll probably place an order in November or so. I won’t need any more of this, as I have plenty of it left, but What-Cha has so many lovely teas that I know I’ll find new favorites. Like this one.
LOOOOOOVVE this dessert-y evening tea. It’s smooth. It’s mellow. It’s caffeine-free. And I swear the dry leaf smells like the chocolate/strawberry/vanilla of neapolitan ice cream. I barely have a sense of smell (which is a huge step up from the ZERO sense of smell I had before the aspirin desensitization at the Mayo Clinic) so if I can smell this, just imagine how lovely the scent would be for you!
As a side note, I haven’t had a 52Teas honeybush I didn’t like. Work today was a disaster. Really, a bad, bad day. First, I have an abscessed tooth. I’m scheduled for a root canal, but meanwhile I suffer. Second, my boss gave me a talking to. Not undeserved, but hard anyway. So I am so pleased I have lovely tea to come home to.
