I went through and added up all the receipts I could find (mostly e-receipts; I did manage to find my receipts from Dammann and Fauchon in Paris, but I did not find my receipts from Lupicia in SF) from 2013, and I probably spent around $1500 on tea and teaware last year. Whew. That said, a lot of that was the Verdant Reserve club; $45/mo, for almost the whole year! This year, with that gone, I have only the Blends club at a cheaper $17/mo. Also, I had a trip to Paris in there, which is guaranteed to result in extra expenditures.

This year, I have at least $200 from the blends club (assuming it continues the entire year). I’m also now well stocked with most of my favoritest teas, so I don’t forsee too many large orders. I have actually reached a point where I don’t feel a desire to try every new tea company out there. Can I spend less than $600 total? I guess that’s my goal. Minus the club, that leaves $33/mo. I already spent $60 in January (Lupicia Happy Bag), so that means no Feb purchases.

Well I spent $250. between Thanksgiving and Mid-January. I keep pretending that will cover me for the rest of the year. Ha ha ha! The more I explore Steepster and tea, the more I want to try the ones described here. There are whole tea types and tea retailers I have never tried! What am I supposed to do? Well, I figure I’ll be spending at least $200-$300 more. But it gets tricky trying to keep it secret from my husband. He tends to be quite thrifty and can’t understand my obsession. Luckily my daughters love tea and will let me have it delivered to their house and use their paypal. Oh, how sad is that!

Tea is one of the thriftiest drinks in existence. Say I buy a 15g sample of tea for 4 bucks – pretty average sample price. At 3g per cup of tea, that’s 80 cents a cup. And many teas, especially smaller leafed and flavoured teas brew great at 2g a cup – about 60 cents a cup. Not to mention that many loose leaf teas can be steeped twice – halving your cup cost.

If there’s anything else in the world that as pleasurable as a cup of tea is for under a dollar, I’d like to hear about it.

Uh… about $100. I haven’t spent any yet. Though it’s tempting.

I’m assuming around $300 but I may surprise myself.

My goal is to spend less than $500 this year, which would be an improvement over 2013, which was over $700.

Plan: no purchases until April. We’ll see how that goes. I have 15 pounds of tea on hand, so don’t need any. We’ll see how “want any” goes.

Great topic! I’ve been too scared to see how much I’ve spent last year on tea. Though, the year before I’m sure I spent more.

Goal: under $500 sounds good. A nice round number.

So far:

$81 at Lupicia in Honolulu for the Hawaiian exclusive teas. Though it was my husband that paid for it, so sort of counts, or maybe if I buy more this month, I’ll make it not count, hahah!

I’m hoping to spend $1-million dollars. Though I imagine I’ll be just a bit short. =)

Lol.. You might just do that… Only to do your magic and sell it all to us!

Yeah, in my dreams. LOL.

Maybe one day :)

I’m aiming for about $500, hopefully less…

So far this year:

Camellia Sinensis: $114
Verdant Tea: $57.30

So no more spending until the spring time!

SFTGFOP said

What did you order from Camellia Sinensis?

daisypies said

Dong Ding Mr.Chang winter harvest-50g
Jin Shuan hivernal-50g
Baboo 2009 (Tibetan Tea)-250g
Carved Bamboo Tea Boat

The tea tray was the main reason for the splurge and since I’ve never had Camellia Sinensis before, I had to get some teas as well. But I’m still waiting for it to be delivered! I hate the wait, especially when it gets stuck in customs…

ah! look forward to reading your reviews. I’ve had pretty good teas from them in the past. :)
