I have constantly been having these reoccurring thoughts so please excuse my hijacking for an on topic remark:
Steepster is a very intimidating place because there are many members who have a vocabulary and experience that makes someone new feel as if they cannot contribute. Realistically, I would love for new members to feel welcome right away but that takes team work and this is what I want people to understand: When someone first starts out here, without any likes on their notes or anyone talking to them it makes this site seem a little useless. As a community I understand there are members who do this for themselves, others who want to engage with fellow tea drinkers, and then those who are just curious about the whole tea world. If you realize it takes time to sign up, write a review, learn the platform of Steepster, and read through some older stuff, it would be very appreciated if we could take just a few minutes every week to read notes from someone new and drop a line; I know it makes my day when I receive a new comment whether it is telling me I’m wrong or right because it meant someone spent time on what I spent time on.
I’m hoping that as a community we can help others not only realize the terms we use, find the deals we seek, catch up on information quickly, and share tea with new friends, but that we encourage people to speak positively of Steepster. Yes, there are seasons of odd times where most of the activity is around pu’erh, group buys, or scandalous verbiage, but in the end I see this site being an amazing tool for others to learn more about a lifestyle, hobby, passion, art… whatever you want to label it, enjoying tea.
It doesn’t take much to follow someone, like a note, or drop a nice sentence, but it can encourage more activity and community involvement.
Amen, well said! I agree one hundred percent, and will take more care to encourage new members if I see them!
Second that! Welcome @Wocket :)
Hey there, raising a cuppa to steepsterites and posting here to reintroduce myself as its been a few years since I posted. Everyone I have followed in the past has not reviewed anything in years as well, so I’ve followed a few active sippers and will add my own tastings. I’ve been creating and selling tea for nine years now and enjoy sharing my experience.
Look forward to hearing from you! :)
Got you as well. Followed.
Welcome back! Your Teahouse sounds amazing…wish it was close enough that I could visit. :)
Thanks Inkling. If you ever visit Yosemite National Park we a little over an hour and a half from there next to Columbia State Historic Park.
If you wish to visit vicariously and try a tea from my site, let me know what interests you and I’ll send some samples with any $8 purchase.
The teas I have here on Steepster are my own blendings.
Hey guys I’m brand new to the tea game, was introduced through battling a stomach virus :/ . Just saying what’s up.
Welcome and whadup Samurai Champloo!
Thanks for the welcome guys ! and you already know tperez
Mr tperez was an apprentice of mine a while back. Now I pass the torch for him to be your teacher and you the apprentice. He will teach you much.
New to loose leaf tea and new to this site, looks fascinating. I live in London and just posted my first (brief!) review of a decent tea shop near me, which I recommended because they offer sample sizes of all their teas. For beginners on a budget, samples are a godsend.
I’ve never had loose leaf, how different is it from the tea bag ? more flavor ?
Hi Moanerette, I am in London also – welcome. Its good to see a small influx of UK steepsterites.
Have you got a link to this review you posted?
Hi Rasseru, it’s here – http://steepster.com/places/4698-good-and-proper-tea-london-greater-london
I’ve just been in to buy tea samples, but their cakes look pretty nice.
Badstrad – yeah, I think that’s the idea. You can vary it much more with different quantities, infusion times and such. I like watching how the leaves change over time.
Excellent, thanks!
Plus with loose leaf its the higher quality tea & more involved tea-making process. Teabags are generally made for convenience.
Im also snobby against tea bags, I will admit that
Hey everyone! I’m Russell just wanted to introduce myself. I am the owner of a local tea company and online. We’re family owned an operated my father brother and myself. I’ve been on here for a few months but just saw this thread and thought I’d introduce myself! Glad to be apart of steepster!
Hi Russell, I’m a Russell too! Welcome
Thanks Russell haha & T-Ching!
Welcome to you both, Moanerette and Russell!
Hey guys,
I’m new to the social media side of tea, but not new to tea. I have been drinking seriously for about 3 years now, with most of my consumption being puer. I finally decided it was time to contribute to the conversation rather than just lurking! So here I am!
I look forward to being a part of this community!
As a fellow puer fan, I look forward to hearing from you!
Welcome, Cody! I was going to make a joke about you needing to write reviews then I noticed you have done some.. Good stuff :)
Haha! phew! I was starting to stress about getting all those reviews to you by tomorrow morning! Thank you for lifting the weight off my shoulders.. ;)
Hi! I grew up drinking green tea (mainly longjing – I was born in Hangzhou!), but I had no idea that there were so many different varieties of tea out there until I started looking up teas on a whim. I’m excited to explore the world of tea and make new friends here! =D
On the topic of exploring different varieties of tea, does anyone know of any affordable tea samplers?
Hi, welcome to Steepster! :)
There are probably five or ten thousand sub varieties of tea if you get really specific. Easily 2000 varieties of green tea I would think. Most are rare varieties though. You never see them advertised on a US website.
Thanks for the welcome! I didn’t realize that there were so many varieties of tea! That’s daunting, but I’m looking forward to trying different kinds.
Welcome Welcome! The variety involved in tea is one of my favorite parts. If I so choose, I can drink something different every day, so it never gets old :) It’s a lot of fun to explore the different kinds and learn what you like and what you don’t like – even those ones are fun if you treat it all as a learning experience.
I like Dragon Well (Long Jing), would be happy to hear any insight about the tea you could provide. I find the flavour to be very refreshing. I hear they try to keep the chlorophyll levels low.
There’s a FB group that has a whole list of samplers offered from companies; let me know if you want me to link ya :)
Oh yes! A link to that would be much appreciated!
Hi everyone,
New to steepster, but have been a bit of a tea fiend for the last couple of years.
Looking forward to sharing tea notes and learning tons from you all.
Hi Ben! Looking forward to learning from you too! =D
Learn tons and collect kilos
:)
Hello everyone! I’ve just joined :)
Hello :)
Drink oolong and you’ll survive here.
