Puerh Travelling Tea Box - Round 3 Finished

Here’s to $30 to ship this thing from the east to the west

yikes, I’m shipping from west to east.

That with post office price, or paypal/online price?

Online… which is cheaper. Seven pounds doesn’t ship cheap for such a distance :/

Dr Jim said

Ouch.

yuck, that case maybe a large flat rate might be cheaper, though the next person would have to get a new box to avoid the “flat rate reused box gets lost” issue.

yssah said

O.o

I’m not sure if it would all fit in a large flat rate box though…
This was what I saw: https://instagram.com/p/9mZbGqRYCq/

Now, I did reduce a lot of clutter by bagging everything up and eliminating doubles by taking them out as my portion; however, there is just a large volume dedicated to this box.

In all reality, was sampling teas from members of Steepster and free tea to try from W2T/EOT worth $30? Absolutely, but I was not expecting to pay that much on shipping. I saw AllanK paid roughly $14 from NY to OH which is one state . It probably comes down to weight and the size of the box which is a good 18×10×7.

Dr Jim said

I also note that just about everyone who has had the box so far put in more tea then they took (despite the 20 “free” grams). The box was already on the heavy side when I shipped it out.

If it is too big when it gets back to me I may try to split it into puerh “newby” and puerh “pro” boxes. I thought about doing this last time but didn’t have enough tea to pull it off.

yssah said

hmm, maybe we can sorta split it even now? 7 pounds is already a lot. if the contributors can identify which teas can go into a small newbie box, we can start it here and save on shipping back to the East. if somebody in your side sees teas allotted to newbie box that they want to try, we can just put it (or a portion of it) back in :)

Out of that 7 pounds there is only about 4.5 pounds of tea. I don’t find that to be a large amount. There is variety and it is going to multiple people. When else will you have the opportunity to try so many teas for $25 in shipping cost? It really isn’t much of a deal. Allan sent it to me for $13 which was great… Just a distance thing

yssah said

oh. what else did you put in? lol. in that case, 4.5lbs is not big enough to split yet. i can age the cakes here while waiting for the right time :D

The cardboard for a box that is almost 3 feet long and material that is holding the tea… It adds up in regards to weight. Also, that comment is really confusing… You said 7 is a lot and 4.5 isn’t big enough to split?

I’m the one who’s going to eat the big shipping since I need to send it across country next and I’m okay with that since LP did. Dr Jim gave me to go ahead to look for a cheaper shipping, so I’ll explore that once I get the box and know the weight once Yssah is done.

Let’s worry about splitting the box once it’s finished the run I say.

Dr Jim said

Thanks for the kind offer Yssah, but I think I’ll pass. If I split the box, I’d add some more tea from my stash and the rules would be different for the newby box (allow flavored tea, and black/oolong). Probably also need a better name than newby box since this may also appeal to old hands. While most preferred pure puerh, there were a few votes for flavored puerhs and other teas.

BTW: Awkward Soul/Oolong owl is on the hook for shipping from CA to FL. I suggested that parcel post would be more appropriate than priority mail for that leg.

yssah said

well, i didnt think that the packaging would weigh that much and thought a pound or two of newbie teas can be separated and there would still be 4lbs left. i was agreeing with you

my mom already separated 15-20g of the teas and sent the rest to me so i have lotsa newbie puerh teas aging in tropical weather lol. they can wait until the newbie ttb comes around tho. i should’ve asked her to leave behind more so i can put in extra too. sorry about that. i just asked her to put in stuff as long as it doesnt exceed an ounce as per the rules :P

anywho, glad that it’s all good.

the eagle has landed.

yssah said

so there are a couple of teas that have just 6g left..should i take just 3g in case someone else wants to try them or should i get the whole thing coz nobody is up to getting 3g samples? lol

Dr Jim said

Some people can use small samples, so don’t feel obligated to take 6 grams, but take it all if you want.

yssah said

ok. just checking if it will make people happy or sad to see 3g of a tea hahahaha. if it will make someone happy, then i will leave 3g :D

yssah said

it’s been mailed yesterday. sorry it took a while!

added a total of 275g (15-25g of each of the ff teas from puerhshop:

Nag, Nag, Nag

I’ve just paged through the reviews section for Essence of Tea and White2Tea, and don’t see very many reviews from people who’ve had the TTB. I know that a lot of us just take samples and send the box on, but it would be nice if we had more reviews.

Please make an effort to review these teas! It would also be nice if you would mention the TTB in your review. I did find several reviews to so thanks to those who have followed through.

That’s not nagging, it’s just bringing awareness to what was agreed upon.
I reviewed everything I have drank through so far and now I have to order from EOT because Grill isn’t taking the hints that I want him to ‘accidentally’ mail me the entire Wild Peacock cake.

Grill said

I think I’ve left reviews on what I drank, at least the vendor teas. I e been looking forward to others reviews as well just to compare notes. Usually makes for good discussion

AllanK said

I have actually left reviews for all the White2Tea and Essence of Tea that I have drank. There are a couple I pulled out that I haven’t gotten to yet.

Dr Jim said

Thanks guys. I did notice some reviews you guys had written in my (somewhat haphazard) survey. It’s easier to bug everyone than to try to single out who’s being good and who needs a nudge. And frankly, I needed a nudge as well. Part of the problem is that we tend to stick samples in a box and forget them (at least that’s my problem) so part of the message is to dig out the EoT and W2T teas to review. Looking at the list, I also realize the box hasn’t made as much progress as I thought, so there aren’t all that many reviewers.

The TTB weighs about 7lbs. I managed to fit all of the Pu’er TTB into the Large Priority Flat rate (12×12×5), which saves $10 off shipping across the country. Anyways, Tperez will need to replace the box so it’s not a flat rate box.

I did a box reorg to sort things back to Sheng/Shou/Smokey Sheng/EOT/W2T. And whatever this is, there’s 3 teas I found that were a 1 gram or less. I left for someone to frankentea https://www.instagram.com/p/-uPl69Ot7g/?taken-by=oolongowl

OUT 89 grams
Sampled a bunch, didn’t finished anything. 89 grams not including W2T/EOT

IN 89 grams
Verdant Tea 2013 Master Han’s Sheng
Verdant Tea 2002 Master Han’s Shou
Mandala Tea 2007 Clouds and Fog Sheng
Mandala Tea 2015 Ramalama Bulang Loose Shou
White2Tea 2015 Pin Sheng

I’m aiming to send the box along Monday or Tuesday.

Dr Jim said

Smart move on the flat rate box. Glad to see it didn’t cost you an arm and leg to ship. Thanks also for the re-org.

I’m really excited to be getting it soon! So excited that I may need some clarification so that I don’t enthusiastically screw things up… I know they’ve already been said, but what are the rules regarding how much of the vendor teas we can take?

Dr Jim said

Don’t take more than 5 grams of any of the EoT or W2T teas. No limit on others. Add up the total weight you took, subtract 20 grams, and replace that weight.

Ok great, just wanted to make sure!

Holy giant box of pu! It is now on my kitchen counter.
Seriously, I have no idea where to start. Now I know why people need more than a couple of days with this thing. Just looking at it makes my head hurt, lol!
