Sharp, bitter, and thoroughly decent. I wasn’t able to pick out any fancy caramel, malt, or cherry flavors through the astringency, but maybe others have more luck. I don’t find that milk or sugar make a lot of difference in the drinking experience, so I’ll take it with or without.
It’s a step below a good English or Irish Breakfast, that’s for sure. But it’s drinkable. I keep a box at work with me because it’s one that I don’t mind sharing.
I have a Starbucks on my campus and a whole lot of extra meal plan dollars- so this is my go-to morning tea. It’s not the greatest thing, but is a good, clean pick-me-up.
Desperate for some decent green tea while traveling, I picked some of this up (the full leaf sachets).. It’s okay. A little pleasant vegetal flavor, but other than that it’s flat, boring, and has a little bitterness to it. It’s definitely the best I can get around here, but it leaves a lot to be desired when you’re paying $7.99 for under an ounce of tea. I could get a very high quality loose leaf for that much. But it’s what I’m stuck with. Tazo just really bothers me. The description on the can makes it sound all nice and high grade, and there’s something written about how their “tea shamans” pick the finest teas and masterfully blend them and blah blah blah… But in Atlantic City, this is as close as I’m going to get to real tea.
I love all Tazo teas. Zen is a really nice green tea. As far as green Tazo teas go, I do prefer the Lotus kind, but this one is really calm and nice too. Definitely go for a longer steep time, as it’s not very good when it’s weak. Great with milk and sugar or honey, and also good without anything added.
This has to be one of the most awkward smelling and tasting tea I have ever tried to date. I was imagining an explosion of fresh flavours – ginger and lemongrass with a touch of pear – when I bought this tea but was sorely disappointed. The ginger tasted stale and flat, not spicy and vibrant as you would have expected. The lemongrass, surprisingly, perpetuated the unpleasant taste and did nothing to lift the flavour of the tea. Did not notice any hint of pear, even after drinking three cups just to make sure that I hate this tea enough to dump the entire box into the trash.
My mom is turning fifty on Friday, but she had her birthday party last night. Because she is the mature woman, aging gracefully, she rented most of a pub, hired a musician, and dragged half of her friends up on stage at various times to sing or play ukelele with her. There was singing. There were thundermugs. There was the YMCA. There was a conga line while an Indian man sang ‘Guantanamera’.
I don’t drink (mostly) and I had to drive home, so I contented myself with diet Coke until I was on my way to the bathroom and spotted, beside the cupcakes that my sister had rearranged from “HAPPY BIRTHDAY THERESA” into “IT’S A TRAP”, a small tin of this tea and a hot water dispenser! Yes, at the bar, surrounded by loudly carolling drunks, I found tea!
The tin turned out to actually be a repository for a motley collection of tea bags, mostly Red Rose, some Bigelow, some Tim Horton’s. But there was one bag of the Tazo left, so I snagged it and brewed up a cup. My cousin Jo kept stealing sips until she asked, “Why does this taste weird?” “Because it’s Earl Grey.” “Ohhh!”
Okay, the tea: I don’t know what I was expecting from a black from a Tazo, since I’ve only had their herbal blends before. The first thing I noticed was that it brewed up very dark, very quickly, but wasn’t bitter when I finally snagged the bag. The flavour was mild and pleasant, certainly not the best but not the worst. There wasn’t much of an Earl flavour, more like an OP with a back-hint of bergamot. What flavour it did have had good staying power, though; I resteeped the bag three or four times through the night. As an alternative to beer it was just what I wanted, but I won’t seek it out again.
Preparation
My favourite Tazo tea. Very nice and soothing on an under-the-weather sort of day. Despite the lack of caffeine, I find Refresh to awaken me more than any other Tazo tea. Definite favourite. Quite strong, so only one bag is necessary! My favourite peppermint tea I’ve found so far.
Preparation
I have no blessed idea what temperature I actually used to brew this tea. I am actively stalking the Breville Tea Maker to remedy this, but I think I’ll need to wait another month before I shell out the$250 bones. I used the setting just below green on my electric kettle.
Apricots, in my mind, are sweet, sensitive little creatures. In reality, they’re more acrid. The scent of this tea is accurate in that way – it disappoints my sentimental mind. The taste was similar. Nothing but astringency in my first unsweetened sips. A teaspoon of organic honey helped to bring out the vanilla a bit, and it toned down the bite.
I see that other folks are enjoying this tea quite a lot, so I’ll give it another shot – maybe iced next time.
Preparation
I wanted to try Orange Blossom as I’m around Tazo tea all of the time. So far, I really only enjoy the Passion tea and only on a rare occasion. I didn’t find that this tea had a whole lot of flavor. I could also detect the licorice and you know how I feel about that. I’m glad I tried this tea so I know not to have it again.
Backlogging from last night:
This came in an assortment box that I purchased a while back, when I first began exploring teas. Not realizing I liked Earl Greys back then, it went untested. Having tested Stash’s Earl Grey and Double Bergamot Earl Grey recently, I found Tazo’s to be more “substantial” … meaning, I could taste the tea over the bergamot, and it was a strong cup of Earl Grey. No bitterness, nice balance.
Preparation
Do you drink this with milk and sugar? I don’t like this plain at all. I tried it so I could have another go at earl grey, but I just can’t quite get the fuss!
Yea, I added honey and a tiny bit of cream (Coffeemate Sweet Cream). I wouldn’t say I love this either, but would drink it in a pinch (at least it was better than some other bagged ones I tried).
I’m normally not very impressed with most tea that comes in tea bags, but when I saw this at the health food store, it really intrigued me. I’m glad I picked it up! I did not let it steep for very long, so that it would not become bitter or too strong. I seemed to choose the perfect time to stop steeping, because I can now taste the mild flavor of the cucumber, as well as hints of lemon and peppermint. It’s very, very mellow, but I love it. I’m surprised it’s gotten such low ratings. It just seems that not as many people are not fans of white tea.
Can’t remember exactly how long I steeped it, but it was around 2 minutes. I don’t have a water thermometer, but I brought the water to a boil over in a kettle and added an eensy bit of cold water while steeping to prevent it from becoming too bitter. I just wing these sorts of things. I’m excited to try this in the summer time, when I can make it iced with a little bit sweetener. I think it’ll be very refreshing. :)
I can understand that this may be too mild for other people’s liking, but if you steep it just right (before it reaches the bitter, bland point; and possibly add some natural sweetener), it is likely come out more flavorful and enjoyable.
Preparation
I think this tea has a lot of potential if treated right. You have to find the perfect steep time because this one is not forgiving if accidentally steeped too long, it becomes very very bitter.
Overall I really enjoy this tea in the morning before class, a quick caffeine boost to start the day.
Preparation
I tried many mint teas in the past, I per the herbal ones rather then the ones with black or green tea.
like the title suggest it is refreshing, it smell and taste refresh the mind. I hate it when people compare mint tea to gum. What do you expect? both mint tea and gum are flavored with mint. I regress, maybe mint tea is not for them
Preparation
I adore this tea; it’s a staple for me. I drink it every morning at work. I steep for 10 minutes with 2 tea bags in about 18 oz of water. Then I add 3 Splenda packets and two Half & Half creamers (I would normally use milk, but the creamers are handier at work). Delicious over ice or kept hot.
