Tea backlog from last night: I was watching the Olympics late last night and wanted something spicy. I was feeling lazy and just wanted to use a bagged version of anything I had in my cupboard. So I grabbed one of these and then decided that 2 teabags would really spice things up. It was pretty peppery. I should add that I was using a pottery mug that was intended as a beer stein, so I suppose 2 teabags wasn’t that over the top. I added a big clump of honey and a whole lot of milk, and it was good enough. It’s not the best, but not the worst either.
Preparation
I purchased this a few months back, and was quite eager to try it. It is, undoubtedly, the worst tea I have ever had. The smell alone gave me a headache, and it did not taste appealing to me (couldn’t taste the cinnamon at all). I imagine this is what paint tastes like. I was a bit surprised upon discovering that the culprit is sarsaparilla, after noticing the same horrid smell/taste in another type of tea (a hibiscus blend) I purchased recently. Sarsaparilla root was the only ingredient the two had in common.)
I tend to prefer flavorful teas, and was hoping Organic Apple Red would be exactly what I was looking for. It was – but only in the aftertaste, which is, unfortunately, its only redeeming factor. When drinking it, it simply tastes like “regular tea”. This may be what others are looking for, but it doesn’t work well for me. Regardless, it’s still a favorite of mine, though I tend to double bag to increase the intensity of the aftertaste.
I received this tea by mistake, once I said green tea and didn’t know that starbucks carried more than one, and the dude heard zen tea. And that’s how we met. It doesn’t make the am cut because it is a very mellow, comforting, low key tea, I make it my late evening companion.
From what I have read it seems that this is not a favorite. I like this tea when I go to starbucks. I have it with steamed soy and sweetened. It’s a morning tea to me, I prefer not to have it in the evenings, so if I get a chance to stop at a starbucks in the am or early afternoon I choose the china green tips misto (misto=starbucks for using bagged tea to make a tea-latte).
Preparation
This is hands down my favorite of the bagged Chai tea brands you can find at your average supermarket. I steep 2 bags in a 16oz steel travel mug for 5 minutes, and usually keep a stick of cinnamon in the mug the entire time for added flavor. The tea is good on its own, but if you’re looking for a little extra spice flavor, give the cinnamon stick a try.
Preparation
I really enjoy the flavor combination. To me, the lemongrass is the most powerful flavor, with the mint behind that and the green tea itself being hardly noticeable. It’s very important that you do not over-steep this though. It is a delicate flavor. I prefer it room temperature or iced.
Preparation
Second-last tea I have yet to sample from Amanda! This can only be better than the yuck from Adagio I just tasted (and spit back out).
Steeped, there is almost no smell. I had smelled a bit of mintiness in the teabag itself, but either the cup has cooled off too much to emit an aroma, or there isn’t really one.
I steeped this one for a conservative 2 minutes, considering that it was a white. The predominant flavour I’m getting is mintiness, which is a bit bleh to me, and then I can almost imagine I taste cucumber after the mint fades a touch. … Ooh! There’s actually a really lovely aftertaste here. Almost caramelly, probably a bit of white tea.
So this one’s definitely a bust because of the mint, which I hoped would be a little more subdued in favour of cucumber and/or lime, but I’m pleasantly surprised at the lingering taste this one leaves! So if I gulp a bit down while holding my nose, this is actually not so bad!! Hahaha :D
Thanks for passing some of this along, Amanda! My only regret is that I didn’t read the ingredient list fully before requesting it… sigh! Mint and I just aren’t best buds.
Preparation
Haha, kind of! Just getting through a few things that I had been putting off trying, apparently for good reason! So a couple things I will throw out, and others I will put in a box to rehome. :) Tomorrow I’m thinking of drinking down a bunch of DavidsTeas that I didn’t like but left myself 1 cup of to try different brewing parameters with.
It just goes to show that in months of drinking better and better tea, our taste has changed. I don’t enjoy the heavily flavored tea’s like I once did.
Well, some of these I don’t think I would have liked initially! But I perhaps wouldn’t have realized quite how bad they actually were, a few months ago.
