Had this one again this morning, and I’m lowering the rating a bit. It seems I was a bit overzealous in my first review. Or maybe I had just been deprived a good breakfast tea for so long I forgot what they were supposed to taste like. In any case, in between my first cup and this one, I had New Zealand Breakfast, and this one doesn’t even compare. It is a malty, full-feeling black tea blend, but it’s just not on the same standard at the NZ Breakfast. It’s nice, though. So I won’t lower it too much.
First sip- YUM! I added a tiny bit of sugar and a dab of milk, as I do with all my bold breakfast teas. I’m getting a nice malty, smooth, and full mouthfeel. lots of body, and a bright note. This is instantly one of my favorites for a breakfast tea. There’s no bitterness, and no real astringency, so it’s an all around good cuppa.
Preparation
as an employee of the ’bux i will be the first to say we stock some lousy tea. The earl grey tea latte is actually okay if the teabag is steeped for no more than a minute as after that the bitterness sets in. though today I snuck in some EG from teavana and had them make me a latte out of that before my shift started and it was delicious as fuck.
Preparation
I had no plans for a stop at Starbucks this morning, but my dad offered to buy me breakfast. Since I’ve been feeling under the weather, I decided to forgo my usual skinny peppermint mocha and get some soothing Refresh tea. The peppermint really shines in this tea and it was exactly what I needed. One of the better teas offered at Starbucks.
I have a box of this at work and its the perfect morning tea with a little cream and sugar on a cold morning. I love that you can taste the tea and all of the spices and that none of the flavors overwhelm. It has spice, warmth and depth and really just so lovely.
Preparation
I love this tea. I don’t find it overly floral. It’s a great rose tea that I find really soothing. I love the citrusy notes and it’s very clean tasting. The valerian root really does the job. It’s definitely a great tea to drink before bed.
Preparation
So much for horsdeouvres, thus the spearmint in this tea is like a minty ice cream. I regulated the concentration of this tea by using some water less than boiling and by adding some splenda to bring out the date sugar taste of mint around the fifth minute of the steep.
Imagine date flavors wrapped around an ice cream cone of pure mint and chip. I stopped drinking to eat some actual brie on a biscuit dipped in basra date molasses so probably where this taste is coming from but you have got to love how it is like finding an oasis in the desert and being completely refreshed. I am definitely getting a second round of this one for my next snack attack.
Preparation
It’s 5 am and im at the airport woot thru security and found a star bucks. It’s wayyy too early and caffeine will upset my stomach so I’m having my go to bagged mint when i’m out. Yumm should probably get some food. Next stop phoenix then Vegas! See previous notes :)
So today was my engineer ceremony woot! I am now officially an engineer (in training, but an engineer nonetheless). So a pretty exciting day, busy, but they did have some tea there, a Tazo assortment. I had a cup of this and it wasn’t too bad, my stomach was a bit yuck from waking up so early but this tea helped calm it down for the rest of the day. A standard mint taste, but you can’t really go wrong with mint in my opinion. Now I’m thinking of what tea to celebrate with now that I am home!
Congrats! Now you have to get a real job so that you can get your hours… my husband is also an EIT, but he is still looking for that perfect permanent job that will give him the experience he needs to come a PEng.
Sweet Canadian – Huzzah for engineers! I’ve so far found a job for my first permanent position :D I will for sure be able to get in the technical parts, probably the management parts after a few years as well! Pretty excited to start :)
Indigobloom – yes, I got my cute little ring, it’s really tiny haha but I like it
Terri HarpLady – Thank you! :)
It was my grandma’s 80th bday today, so we had a nice brunch with extended family at a hotel. Nice to chat with all the cousins and see all their little kids :) anyways, they had a small team selection of mostly tazo, and i was between this and an orange herbal, but this was needed as I over ate and stomach was super full and needed calming down lol. This is a standard mint, nothing special, couldn’t taste anything except mint, mostly peppermint. I enjoy mint tho, so it was decent :) should have taken a bag of that orange one to try later, oh well haha.
I believe I reviewed this one before — it’s one of the best teas for a bacterial infection when prepared hot, after all (since there’s added citric acid). However, I plopped a bag into my water bottle today and it was amazing after about half an hour of infusing. Like a citrus soda, just no sugar or carbonation. If you’re after something slightly sour and bright, this is the right tea for you.
Flavors: Citrus Fruits, Sour
Preparation
I think I’ve tried this ages ago; must not have made much of an imprint. However, as you’ve described it, it sounds like it would be great on ice.
So my throat is sore today, and I’m chugging tea and gargling Listerine in hopes that I’m only coming down with a light winter cold. Despite the low ratings that this tea gets, it’s really great for under-the-weather days. Citric acid makes this tea a bit (erh, quite a bit actually) on the antioxidant/vitamin/lemony side, so it’s definitely not something you’d want to drink in the evening or put milk in. It’s sour, yeah, but it’s made my throat feel better. It tastes horrible with honey, but it really works well to ease cold symptoms.
I would actually suggest not drinking this tea every day, as it’s probably quite acidic and may negatively affect dental health. I actually get heartburn from it if I don’t eat something afterward. Despite that, it’s a really easy cold treatment that doesn’t involve pharmacies or NyQuil.
I don’t love this tea. Its just too sour, too punchy and too overwhelmed by the sour pink passionfruit. To get it drinkable I have to only brew for a few minutes or add iced to lemonade or water and that seems to tone it down. I also find the licorice flavor to be somewhat unpleasant.
Preparation
Glorious. Its like apple pie, in a cup! I drink it with milk, and add nutmeg/cinnamon/vanilla when at the “extra’s” side table at Starbucks. It is my go-to Starbucks drink, though now the London Fog is becoming a competitor. One of my favourite teas.
I got it from starbucks because I liked the name. Everyone needs a bit more joy in their day, eh? ;) I probably steeped it a bit long, since it got rather more to the bitter side of things. Had it with milk. It was passable, but probably not something I’d readily order again.
All right, I’ll admit it, this tea is nothing special. The aroma of the steeped tea is very much like Lipton’s orange pekoe, although, being pregnant, my sense of smell may be off. Can’t really smell any of the green or oolong at all (even though I can VERY clearly see them in the tea bag—one thing I do have to give this tea props for is making you visually aware of what’s in it, if that counts for anything). However, the teas that they included in the blend must either be not very fresh or not very high quality… or both, I suppose. I tried to steep it at a lower temperature this time, to see if the green/oolong flavors would come out a little more. I gave it a scoop and a half of sugar, but nothing else.
As it cools, I do begin to smell a little of the green tea. Still no oolong.
In the first few sips, I get a bit more of an English Breakfast instead of orange pekoe flavor, with some Dragonwell-like astringency in the aftertaste. I’m glad that it doesn’t taste as Lipton-y as it smells, because I would probably throw it out if it did. As it cools, I can detect a few whispers of oolong here and there, but not enough to say that it really becomes present. It’s kind of like the middle child of the three—surrounded on both sides by the tasty and lovable youngest and the responsible, take-charge eldest. It can be hard for the middle child to get noticed sometimes, and I sympathize completely. However, these teas didn’t blend themselves, and since the middle child is actually my favorite of the three… I’d like it to shine a little more.
Since this tea was a Christmas gift from some cousins of mine, I’ll definitely drink it without complaining. Overall, it’s a rather satisfying, if rather run-of-the-mill, experience. Sometimes I’m not picky about complexity of flavor or quality, and when those moods strike, this will be the tea I go for.
Preparation
I’m honestly rather surprised at how poor the reviews for this are! Yes, it does taste like fake orange flavoring (hot kool-aid, maybe) and yes, using licorice was a poor choice (the aftertaste is unpleasant and doesn’t work with the rest of the flavors), but as far as similar fruity bagged tisanes go, it’s probably the best I’ve had. Love that the flavor is fairly strong, love the tartness, it’s probably the closest I’ve ever gotten to drinking liquid candy without adding anything to sweeten.
