Bad allergy day, so I decided to make a cup of something I hoped would be calming. This was what I ended up grabbing for, because nothing calms me down like teas billed as “relax before bed” teas. I found this one at the health food store of all places, along with a couple of other Tazo blends I’d never seen elsewhere. Hmm.
I love roses in my relaxing teas, so this one was right up my alley. Light and floral, but the aftertaste is sweet. A little like sugared rose petals, but not enough to be overwhelming. Despite the overall feeling of rose it was nicely balanced; not too much of any one thing. After I finished my cup I left it next to me and it continued to smell nice until I cleaned up the dishes. Very calming!
Preparation
This is my all time favorite bed time tea. I love rose petal tea and that’s what originally drew me to this tea, but it is so soothing and drinking a small mug before cuddling into the covers for the night is a wonderful experience. The herbs are a good mix, very balanced, and it’s naturally sweet without being overwhelming. I think it may even help me relax!
Preparation
A “warm,” relaxing tea with ginger as the predominate flavor accompanied by citrus notes from the lemon and lemongrass. The pear taste is subtle and perhaps adds a sweetness to the tea, but I probably wouldn’t have identified it as pear without having read the label. The green tea itself was mostly masked by the other flavors.
Preparation
Somehow I hit the sweet spot for this this morning: Recognizable as green tea, and both the spearmint and lemongrass were present. I was really liking the citrusy flavors this morning so this was perfect. Bumping the rating up just a little because it finally tasted as promised; now if only I could recreate it at home!
Stomach trouble again. This has become my go-to for that because I can make it in the microwave (horror!) without making it taste any worse. That sounds kind of sad but I can’t bring myself to really hate this tea: the spearmint flavor is good, and this time I’m getting some lemongrass flavor. Still no green tea, though.
Preparation
Finishing up the tin and decided to make a full pot to get rid of it. This one is growing on me, but I’m not sure I would buy it again.
The rooibos flavor is more obvious when the tea is hot, and then as it cools the vanilla comes out more. It would be interesting to taste this iced.
Preparation
This tea is a little bizarre to me. It produces a strange tingling on the tongue almost like alcohol. Maybe it’s the vanilla? The mix of spices? Whatever it is, it’s not what I’m looking for in a tea and I don’t like it.
Once I get past that it’s fine, flavor-wise. Strong vanilla and apple and not much else. Unfortunately I can’t get past the way this feels in my mouth to really enjoy it.
Preparation
I ordered this by accident tonight (yesterday? It’s past midnight…) because I mis-remembered which tazo I wanted to try today. I thought this was the other herbal blend, but as it turns out it is the green one. I did not have high hopes about this considering the too-hot water and the fact that I have no idea how long this steeped other than I took it out as soon as I figured out that it had green tea in it.
Amazingly, especially since I really am not fond at all of bagged green tea in general, this was quite nice. Very very mild green flavour (not really vegetal, but still definitely there) and really no bitterness at all. The mint was very nice and the lemon subtle. I’m a big fan of mint. So this was really surprisingly good and I’ll have to try it again when I have better control of temperature and steeping time.
