I am using an actual tea cup, so it is no wonder that one glass of the Earl just wasn’t enough for me. And I have six different Earl Greys to compare to each other. So why not make this an Earl Grey day?
I still haven’t gotten rid of these tea bags, so I thought I would try it again. The liquor is very dark and the tea smells soapy. I only brewed it for four minutes and the tea is harsh. It also tastes slightly soapy.
But this is also the tea that the Earl Grey lattes are made out of, so let’s try a splash of milk with it and see how that goes. gets milk Now it kinda looks like iced coffee. The milk made it drinkable, but it isn’t really mind-boggling. I taste the bergamot now, but it still has a very harsh flavor to it. It tastes rather flat.
I could see this being a good tea to make a milk tea with. Or even to put some sugar and boba in it and make an Earl Grey bubble tea. But I still wouldn’t reach for it on my own. I might keep it around and use it to experiment with some Earl Grey baking that I want to do. I’ll have to see how it compares to Biglow Earl Grey.
This tea just stares at me each time I make a cup of tea at school. Now, I don’t have a whole lot of tea in my room so it depends on what they have in the cafeteria. This one was pretty good. I didn’t even have to put milk in it like I do for some of the teas. It is a little less flavorful than my Tea Company Earl but I wouldn’t turn it down.
Preparation
I am obsessed with recreating the Starbucks Earl Grey latte, which I think is all about their vanilla syrup, and not really about the tea. But here I am with my vanilla-soy milk and earl grey tea, trying my best. I oversteeped the tea on purpose, and I am still suffering from the weak-flavor problem. I know this isn’t the more expensive Starbucks’ Tazo Earl Grey in nicer bags. but I am not going to bother to pay extra just to drown the thing in vanilla soy milk. These are very strongly flavored, but hmmmmm…. might have to just try leaving the tea bag in. I mean, I chose Tazo because Sbucks uses it, but also because if these things don’t deliver the strength I need in the drink, nothing will. Seriously, like bergamot before buying a box of this stuff.
Preparation
Maybe try two bags? I know when I make stovetop chai, simmering the tea in milk and water, I use twice the tea as usual.
Yeah, I might have to. I mean, Sbucks doesn’t use 2 teabags, so I have no idea how they get theirs to taste so much stronger!
Got this from my son tonight. Not as tasty as Stash Christmas Morning but I found it entertaining. My son warned me not to brew too long so I steeped about 4 minutes. The water temp was just under boiling. The Darjeeling is the predominate taste here with the green kind of hiding in the background. At first I couldn’t detect the oolong but as the cup cooled I began to catch it in the aftertaste then in the sip itself. I definitely would drink this again if it occurred to be but in reality it probably won’t very often.
After completely enjoying Tazo’s Organic Chai, I am disappointed. I guess my expectation was deep and bold flavor but like many others, I found it was highly astringent and bitter. However, I saw that someone gave it an ultra short steep and got better results, I will try that, but I am not very hopeful. Like another note I saw recently, I agree that this brand has so much potential but seems more concerned with marketing than taste.
I like a full pot of Passion tea with agave nectar or sugar. It’s quite good. I’ve also had the tea w/o sweetener (since Passion already has licorice root). I enjoy this tea… not as much a just plain hibiscus, but I like the added herbals to it. Tazo apparently makes a Mambo tea that is similar to Passion, but instead of bags, Mambo comes in a loose leaf.
Preparation
I want to like Tazo. I really do. I want Starbuck’s to do for tea what it did for coffee but I think Tazo is more concerned with appearing all hip and mystically rather than concentrating on the important stuff, the tea. My opinion – your image isn’t whimsical its just dumb.
As for this tea, it smells like medicine. Reading other reviews here, I was unaware the natural flavors listed on the label meant pear. That probably explains my dislike of the smell. The taste reminds me of incense. Now in my incense burning days I might have liked that image. Today, not so much. The lemongrass, ginger, and ‘natural flavors’ blend together well enough but overwhelm the tea base which is probably sencha. It isn’t totally disgusting. It’s just not interesting enough for me to want again.
When I think of ginger I think of Vernors Ginger Ale. One of the oldest American soft drinks still in production. Barrel aged for three years. It used to be aged for longer but the company has traded hands a few times and changed some to remain competitive. It still is highly carbonated but nothing like it used to be when it came in glass bottles. I believe it was impossible to drink without the bubbles making you cough – in a glorious good way. Even in its present shadow of its former self it still stands miles above Canada Dry and Seven Up. Love it or hate it, this is a classic.
That’s what I want Starbuck’s to do for tea. Make it a fine vintage drink to be proud of and not some quirky unsatisfying half hearted attempt at tea. Make it worth my nearly $2/cup. Make the tea great and you won’t have to hide it in a gimmicky box.
Awake is like the Two-Buck Chuck of tea. Sure, it’s a staple in many households, but it isn’t all that special. You can buy a lot of of for a relatively low price and it gets the job done, caffeine-wise. There was still bitterness and acidity that lingered throughout the brew. It’s better than Lipton, but by no means is it a “great” alternative. We’d compare it to being some sort of middle-man: a great tea mixed with water from a dish rag.

I decided to have some of this this with breakfast this morning. I was looking for some motivation to get some homework done today so I can watch the Superbowl tomorrow (Go Packers!!).
I think it helped a little – regardless it was yummy.
Preparation
I had this tea at 11:30am before starting my epic day of homework. I thought the caffeine boost would be needed and the name seemed appropriate.
It tastes a lot like there Awake tea (which I enjoy) but with orange flavoring. I enjoyed it!
Preparation
I got this, like so many other folks, in part to try to recreate a Starbucks tea latte at home (when I use up my current stash of earl grey I’ll try the Tazo earl grey too). For me, the vanilla syrup seems to just make the beverage, so I am trying to compensate at home. Next time, for example, I am going to try vanilla sweetened soy milk rather than my unsweetened vanilla almond milk+ honey. (The almond milk otherwise did a good job).
The trick for me is to just leave the teabag in the cup, and use no water. Steep the thing in the milk directly. Do you get a better result from steeping it in water for a long time first? Curious.
Anyway, I like this one plain as well. It’s a nice sweet vanilla-apple pie type of aroma. Well done on Tazo’s part, as I usually cannot stand apple.
Preparation
Tried today and it wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t my favorite. Plain Earl Grey always leaves my mouth a bit fuzzy, so about half way through I start to not like it.
For the first time I put non-fat milk in my tea (just a splash) and I really couldn’t taste too much of a difference. Will have to keep playing with that in the future I suppose.
(Store-made, medium size, 2% milk, with a full-leaf teabag rather than liquid concentrate.)
Meh. I remember these being much tastier. Or maybe my palate’s matured / gotten snootier? Last time I had one was 2008.
Woody and minty rooibos, something a bit like toothpaste, and tepid milk. To be fair, did a great job of calming my jangled nerves, but I did not enjoy drinking it. I really don’t care for minty/woody red rooibos. There must be region/farm/estate differences with rooibos leaves just as there are with any other tea or tisane leaf. Anyway, this tasted at once medicinal, fakey-sweet and grenadine-y to me. And it cooled off very quickly.
I’m still trying to decide what I really think about this tea. It has sort of fruity tart smell to it. But also smells a little like cardboard. Kind of has that taste, too. Maybe it’s trying to pull off something ‘earthy’ & is failing miserably. I’m not entirely sorry I bought this tea but I certainly wouldn’t purchase it again.
Been drinking a lot of this lately… but with an additive of sugar! Definitely helps smooth the oomph of the mint to a tolerable, and quite enjoyable, level.
Upping the rating because well, I really enjoy this tea now! Never thought I’d say that about Tazo… always had weird feelings about them.
Preparation
Got this (along with a few other) tea in a box my mum sent over for Christmas!
Holy crap is this tea minty. Almost numbs the tongue! I wish I would have had this a few days ago when I had a nasty flu. This would have cleared everything right up in a jiffy. It’s nice, though. Refreshing… so I guess that’s why it’s named Refresh. Would be nice mixed with a little bit of green tea and some honey!
Preparation
I spotted this on the top shelf of the grocery store and threw it in my cart. Wasn’t sure what to expect but it sounded yummy. I brewed up a cup as soon as I got home, it is 2 bags per a mug (16ish oz) so its 50cents a mug of tea.
The aroma is mellow & light on the tongue, I can definitely taste cloves on the end note. I do not taste nor smell cocoa but did get a whiff on orange as I opened the envelope.
It is a nice cup for a cool afternoon when you need a lift when the kids get home from school.
Preparation
I dont even know why I am logging about this one..I guess my fellow tea drinkers have said enough for anyone to know this is not worth a try.
But I tried it and I need to vent. I dont know what Tazo is doing wrong. I think they make too much tea at one time and they let it sit forever. Tazo – “this is tea, not wine”
I could not taste the berry, Their was no blossom and the white was a pile on :(
Please excuse my sarcasm ;)
