278 Tasting Notes

Too lazy to look at the ingredients, but I can see/smell rose, pepper, tea buds, some berries and maybe some jasmine. There is a very nice peppery flavor to this tea. I was hoping that a nice cuppa would improve my headache, but alas, no. This tea is delicious though!

Hmmm… not sure about this one. I got this sample from a friend and brewed it my usual way, but I had to get rid of several initial steeps because they just taste a little musty. That’s probably not even the right word. They just taste not so great.

After that, it smooths out and ends up tasting a bit coffeeish, but it never really tastes awesome to me. I don’t think, “oh yum yum yum” at any point. I have enough to try again, so I’ll do so soon. I’m trying to give teas I don’t love a second chance at a later time because I’ve been having some sinus and congestion issues.

Isnt the word vajra Sanskrit for a religious Phallic symbol?

Terri HarpLady

oops! Did I say that?
Must be the pain meds, hahaha

Cwyn

Lolz and I don’t have pain meds to excuse my Freudians.

SarsyPie

O.O

Oh my! I didn’t know it was going to be THAT kind of party!

I got a lovely sample from a friend. This tea sure is pretty when brewed. It’s a very deep amber and quite clear. The steam seems to linger on the surface for a long while.

This one is smoothy and quite yummy for an after dinner sip. I don’t find it to be amazing, but it’s definitely good. It tastes a little like an earthy forest. I would have thought that with this number of years for age, it would be less earthy. I just did one rinse, but I think I may add a few more on the next session to see if any of the earthiness dissipates!

I’ll update after that. :)

Tea party!!!!

We are starting with the 2010 fungus and moving to newer years later. I think I like this more when I drink it on it’s own, not intending to compare it to the others that I purchased. It’s lightly sweet and less astringent that I remember, though I do feel it has a slightly dry finish.

It gives a nice woozy feeling, which I always enjoy!

I just ordered my first heicha, looking forward to trying it.

SarsyPie

Do tell! Which type did you get?

Ysaurella

love the cup !

SarsyPie

Thanks! It’s my absolute favorite cup!!!! :)

I got a Guangxi 2011 on EBay, seller lives in Florida and had 3 cakes. I offered 24.95, so $5 off what he was asking. I can’t find anyone else with that same brick, I can find cheaper 2008-9 like at Chawangshop but I’d pay more in shipping.

SarsyPie

Oh super. I will look for your review then. I haven’t tried that kind yet!

Cwyn

I’m betting it will need some airing out, at least to get rid of the storage. Sounds like you should get a brick of this Fu Zhuan. I’ve noticed that 2008-9 heicha is easy to come by, but other years start getting scarce and pricey.

I’m finally busting into the shous from DC Tea. The shengs were great, and this first shou is also excellent.

It’s very silky, which is kind of a new feeling for me and tea. I’ve had teas with a creamy feel, but this is a little different and totally pleasant!

I brewed this gonfu style in my little golden shousy yixing, but I combined about 7 steeps into a stainless thermos and retired to my room to drink with Goldie. So basically, my result is blended.

But what a result! Silky chocolate, coffee, and fruit. I daresay I caught a hint of cherry! It brews very dark, so I would have thought it to be heavily fermented, yet it has very little fermentation flavor. I was surprised because it’s a very young tea. It’s a beauty and I’m looking forward to seeing how it gets even better with time!

ooooh… sounds so good!

SarsyPie

It is! I always get nervous with young shous because sometimes they taste kind of dirty. But not here!

Tealizzy

Wishlist! How did you order from them?

boychik

Need one. yum!!!

SarsyPie

Tealizzy – I got this through O5Tea in Canada. The cakes aren’t on their site. I had to email them and ask for the puerh list, then pay via invoice. But I’ve been happy with all the teas so far!
Boychik – You DO! Yum!

Terri HarpLady

I wish I’d brought some shou with me to Tony’s this weekend.

SarsyPie

Oh no!!! Travel without shou!!! :(

Well hello, Sweetie!

This tea is really something special. I went through the 9 circles of hell, plus an extra one to get my hands on this. Having dealt with dishonest sellers who raised the price when I inquired and another seller who sent me incorrect teas when I purchased this, I finally was able to purchase and receive the cake from JK Tea Shop. (Fucking finally, yay!!!!!!)

I can say that it was worth the effort. This tea is sweet and mild and seems older than just 4 years. It’s a small cake with moderate compression. The leaves are intact and dark. When brewed, the leaves smell like apricots and grapes, smoked with a floral incense (instead of the usual campfire).

It’s insanely smooth and the sweetness is surprising. I’m on the 3rd steep and there’s no bitterness. Just a slightly dry finish and a really pleasant aftertaste.

I’m in tea bliss heaven! Wooooo floaty!

Edit: I’m on steep 12 I think? Still going strong. I am gonna have to save some til tomorrow!

Woo!

This is a beautiful tea. It’s double wrapped in a heavy paper. The label is a work of art and the tea cake is lovely. It’s a looser compression and made of intact leaves.

I’m on the 9th steep and it’s still going. Smoked apricots are present, and an interesting floral note. I probably won’t touch this one again for quite some time as the bitterness is way strong. But this tea has potential… it’s going to be amazing with age!

I have a good feeling about this one. I gotta make sure this one is well-stored for aging! :)

mrmopar

No more than 70% humidity and keep the temp as stable as possible. As heat rises so usually does the humidity.

I’m sick. Stayed home Monday, WFH yesterday, went in today, and left at noon. I feel exhausted and congested and blah.

This arrived today as a sample from a friend of mine. I decided to drink some and try to take a little nap. I’m really liking this tea, so I wanted to get a quick note down. Now admittedly I did take some meds earlier, but I didn’t start feeling woozy til I drank this tea!

I’m getting a very pleasant body-feel, which is quite nice. I have enough left to do another session when I am not sick, but this is definitely making me feel better, even if it’s in a small way. It’s yummy and I like it!

Get some rest. Feel better soon ;-)

TeaBrat

go take a nap :)

mrmopar

Feel better soon!

SarsyPie

Thanks, all! I know I’ll be fine, but the congestion and head pressure really sucks. I’m shenging right now. Maybe that will help!

A yummy selection from Global Tea Hut. I did this with longer gongfu steeps, then combined in a mug. I started with 20 seconds and added 15-20 from there. The tea is mild and pleasant. I’ve done 4 steeps so far, but there may be more to give.

I’m really happy with the Global Tea Hut subscription. I like the magazine, though I know some people would describe it as a bit “woo woo”. I don’t mind that at all though. The teas are wonderful and the little “extra” gifts have been fun and interesting.

I’d love to visit the hut in person, someday!

One of my mystery teas.

I know this is a 2009 sheng fro Phoenix Mountain. I don’t know the name of the factory or company who produced the cake.

Anyways, it’s quite good. Apricoty, of course. Low smoke, but with a pronounced bitter hit on the end. It smooths out over later steeps. I think this one will age very nicely!

Happy it’s decent, after all your troubles!!!

SarsyPie

Interestingly, it gets sweeter and less bitter as it cools. I normally find the opposite to be true!

boychik

Today I had sheng that acted exactly the same. Bitter in the beginning as cooled was very sweet. I thought I imagined it
