278 Tasting Notes
I thought this oolong was ok, but not amazing. I’ve been drinking some outstanding oolongs lately. Maybe it’s becoming harder to impress me!
I was feeling very lazy this AM, so I made the mistake of brewing this grandpa style with about a tsp of leaves in my Dr. Who mug at 208 degrees. I didn’t get many pleasant flavors or aromas. It just tasted kind of weak. As it sat and cooled, it started leaving a kind of dry feeling in my mouth, but it didn’t really get stronger.
This afternoon, I decided I should brew this properly, so I used 5 g of leaves in my gong fu pot and did some shorter steeps, still at 208 degrees. The tea was better this way, but still seemed weak. It did smell and taste green with some light florals, but something just seemed to be missing.
I only did about 3 steeps before I stopped getting much of anything out of the leaves. I just don’t think this is the oolong for me.
After I wrote this up, I was reading some of the other reviews. I think I may be the only person who doesn’t think this was exceptional!
Preparation
I received this in a tea swap from Hapatite and made it for my Mom, because she absolutely loves amaretto!
Of course, I had to sample her cup and while the flavor isn’t my fave, I did enjoy it. I steeped this at 208 degrees for 5 minutes. It smells like almond, and it tastes like almond. Truth in advertising!
I added about a tsp of rock sugar b/c my Mom does NOT drink unsweetened anything. The almond flavor was nice, but the tea still needed a little something. I went rummaging in the cupboard and found the perfect thing: a shot of amaretto liquor.
Now that’s a cup of tea! Mom loved it!
Preparation
I made this for my Mom today, since she was visiting. I know she likes mint, but normally I do not, so I figured she would be able to really appreciate this. I brewed it at 208 degrees for 5 minutes. I added about a tsp of rock sugar, but no milk.
My Mom really liked this! It smelled so great that I took a sip and you know what? Even I liked it! The chocolate and mint flavors are there, but neither is overpowering. It tastes more like a light mint chocolate chip ice cream than a peppermint patty (the worst candy EVER!).
I would absolutely drink this again. It would make a lovely dessert tea, and that’s saying a lot coming from me. Normally the only mint I tolerate is spearmint, but I would make an exception here.
Preparation
My behind is currently parked in a chair in my back yard, drinking cups of this grandpa style with 205 degree water. I think this is one of my new faves, for sure. I’m on the 2nd steeping and there’s zero bitterness. Just a lovely floral sweet tone that has a very comforting effect.
This is definitely on my list of Comfort Teas!
Preparation
This is yummy! It has a light strawberry flavor. I don’t pick up much cocoa, but I like it anyway. I did need to sweeten this with a little rock sugar to enjoy it more. Without sweetener, the strawberry didn’t pop!
Thanks to Hapatite for the sample!
Preparation
I am kind of mixed about this one. I received it in a swap (Thanks, Hapatite!), and on it’s own, it tasted kind of plain, though I did get a little kick at the end. Then I looked up what it actually was and suddenly, I could taste a little cocoa.
So on the one hand, I feel like I should have been able to taste the flavors without knowing what it was. But maybe some of us just need to know what we are looking for when it comes to flavors!
I do think the peppers could have been a little stronger, but then I adore spicy things. I guess most people don’t want fire breath after drinking their tea!
Preparation
This dry tea smells truly amazing. Once brewed though, it had an aroma that’s very unpleasant to me. The flavor is just like the aroma. It reminds m of something unpleasant from my past.
My BF loves it and is insisting we buy more. He drank his cup, and then mine. I guess it’s a hit with one of us.
I’m splitting our ratings and ending with an average.
Preparation
Hmm. This dry tea smells great, the brewed tea smells ok (the pear aroma is quiet), but when I sip this, I don’t taste any pear.
The tea is a pretty pinkish color when brewed, and it has a nice hint of sweetness, but I would like to have some pear flavor that I can detect. The tea also left a significant amount of sediment at the bottom of the cup. Not like broken leaves that slipped through a strainer, but what looks like powder.
I received this as a sample from Hapatite in a swap, and I was glad to give it a try, but I don’t think I would purchase this one.
P.S. I will give this a try again with a little sugar b/c I just read Carol Who’s review and she found the pear after sweetening.
Edit: 5/18 Did a cold brew. That was not a wise decision.
Preparation
Got this in a tea swap with Hapatite! I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about an instant tea, but this is good. I think this would be a nice dessert tea, because it is creamy and mellow. It’s sweetened, so there isn’t any bitterness. I’m glad I got to try it!
