TE13: Chocolate Earl Grey

I purchased this one without sampling…..I know, so weird for me. I am definitely happy with the tea. The chocolate and bergamot flavors are subtle, and I loved the touch of lemongrass. I also liked that the brew is light, rather than heavily flavored or scented. Yum!

Nice! The combo of chocolate and bergmot really is reminiscent of a chocolate orange. It’s a bit lighter in flavor than I hoped, so I will try a longer steeping next time. I think it helps to not think of this as an Earl, because the cocoa notes definitely transform it into something else entirely!!

This is a wonderful tea, and I have to say that I could probably grow to really like Earl grey teas by easing my way into it with tasty blends like this! The chocolate flavor is definitely there, but doesn’t smack you in the face (still looking for that chocolate tea btw, if anyone knows of one!)

One of my new samples. I’m on a quest to try all Upton (and Harney) earl grey blends. There is a very nice scent of cocoa. The flavour is chocolate and bergamot, with mild lemon notes. It is nicely cream, and a good morning tea.

I guess I hadn’t actually reviewed this before. It basically tastes like DT’s the Earl’s Valentine, or whatever that tea is called now. A floral, chocolatey, earl grey. Quite powerful, but also pretty tasty. Probably best (or better) with milk.

This one was okay, but definitely not as nice as the Upton Earl Grey Blue Flower. I only tend to drink Earl Grey first thing in the morning, and I tried this one at night, so that might be why I wasn’t particularly enamoured with it. The flavour was a bit too citrusy and not chocolatey. This is the kind of tea I’d probably have once in a while for something a little different, but it’s not something I’d want to drink on a regular basis.

I’ve been searching for a chocolate-flavored Earl Grey for a while. It seems like it would be an interesting flavor combo. I finally purchased a sample of this one, and I’m liking the mix of flavors. The chocolate in this tea is pretty subtle; it mostly adds a nice creamy sweetness. But the bergamot is great, not too strong or too sharp. I like to have this tea with sugar, to help bring out the chocolate note even more. Overall, this is a decent Earl Grey. I’m not sure I’ll repurchase it, since I’d like to try one with a stronger chocolate note in the future. (But I bet this one would taste great blended with a chocolate tea, like Lupicia’s The Au Chocolat or Adagio’s Chocolate Chip!)

Realizing several cups later that this tea is significantly better if, when following the 1 tsp. instructions, you whompingly heap the teaspoon and then maybe add a pinch more. The flavor still doesn’t live up to the aroma (if we were rating teas by smell here, this would score 100. Chocolate and oranges, deeeeeelicious) but at least you can start to see the resemblance.

I love Earl Grey, and I’m usually happy to try variants thereof (lavender Earls in particular I’m a sucker for). I’ve never come across a chocolate-flavored Earl though, so I purchased a couple of samples out of curiosity. Couldn’t hurt, right?

It’s certainly a tasty tea, even if it doesn’t seem much like Earl Grey to me, since I don’t get that much bergamot. More like a chocolate tea that’s a little citrusy. In fact, as far as chocolate teas go it’s one of the better ones I’ve had.

This is the yummiest tea I’ve ever tasted. I’m quite keen on uptons earl grey cream vanilla but when I want a special treat I have a cuppa chocolate earl grey. The first time I tried it I was pleasantly surprised at how well the chocolate and earl grey flavors blend together. At $1.50 for a sample pack or $7.60 for 125g it’s quite fairly priced.
