From thepuriTea

Also known as “Yunnan Gold,” Golden Yunnan is a coveted black tea from Yunnan, China. It’s made from the oxidized tips (or “buds”) and leaves of the tea plant, and very fresh Golden Yunnan teas (like ours) are often coated with a fine golden dust. These beautiful, tippy leaves brew into a dark, copper-red infusion with sweet aromas of warming spices, baked apples, raisins, tobacco and wood. The flavor is full-bodied, woodsy and malty, with notes of pepper, tobacco, toasted wheat and flowers. The finish is remarkably clean, with notes of honey and malt. Try it with dark chocolate desserts, plum tortes or lamb with apricot chutney.

I’m a HUGE fan of Yunnan Golds as a rule. This one suffered from being too light compared to its other gold-tipped kin. That said, it still held quite a bit of what I loved about the type – honey-like, peppery, woody, and slightly creamy. I just wished it was a little burlier. However, to say it’s a slight disappointment compared to other Yunnan Golds is like saying, “You’re the less pretty High Elf in the court.” (I.e. It’s still excellent in its own right.)

You should pick up some Golden Fleece from Verdant. It’s a bit light, but it’s great.

I’ve heard the Golden Fleece is good. Must resist urge to buy all the tea!

Geoffrey Norman

@Kwinter – I’ll keep that in mind when I actually have enough to justify a tea budget.

Yet again another tasty tea from ThePuriTea it is as promised. It has a peppery kick on the finish that lasts well after the sip which to me is AWESOME! It is rich and has a honey feel. I am starting to understand why they call themselves… The Puri Tea (Pure)

I have a sample of this and may try this one in the next couple of days. I highly recommend Puritea’s Oriental Beauty.

Lori, I bet it is good but I was concerned about buying it and not liking it since I don’t have a sample. It is pretty pricey to risk.

Just what I need on a cold, cold morning – honey, toasty warmth with a little peppery kick at the end of the swallow. Delicious. Regrettably I have only a small sample tin to enjoy and cannot reorder since thepuritea selections have disappeared with the close of the business. C’est la vie!

I was surprised by this tea. Lately my Yunnan experiences have been flat and boring. But this tea reminded me of what Yunnans could taste like. I guess it reminds me that Yunnan is not my favorite, but it sure ain’t bad either. So I am rambling at this point, it must be my mood today. Anyhow, I did enjoy it.

This was my first experience with this type of black tea, and probably won’t be my last. Smooth, sweet, honey flavor, with a bit of astringency that lingers. Loved. it.

Delicious. This tea just makes me happy drinking it. It’s almost as if you can taste the patience that went into making it.

This tea has a nice smokey, toasted flavor but remains very smooth on the palate. After it cools off a bit, there is a please honey flavor.

I really enjoy this tea! It’s the first Golden Yuunan I’ve ever had, which just makes me want to look for more kinds to try. It’s very smooth. I have yet to decide exactly what it smells like, but I like the slight sweetness in the taste. I quite like it for a late afternoon tea.
