Pomegranate Green

The Final Sipdown: Day 3.1

Well, this is interesting.

As soon as I poured the water in over the tea bag, it turned a shade of lavender identical to the final color of Harney & Son’s French Super-Blue Lavender. As it steeped, the color deepened into a bright cherry magenta. Sniffing the finished product, I distinctly smell Mr. Bubble. It isn’t a, “This has a hint of…” or even a, “This smells a bit like…” type thing. It like Mr. Bubble. It also reminds me of the shampoo they use in hair salons sometimes.

Taking a sip, the taste is…I don’t know. I can break it down into three things.

1. You know how gum flavors come in pretty much two different options: mint + mint varietals, and fruity flavors? If you’ve ever chewed on a fruity gum until it loses its flavor, think on the taste of it right as the flavor is dying, before it goes completely bland. Yeah, that.

2. Unsweetened Kool-Aid.

3. Passion Tea Lemonade from Starbucks.

Again, like the Honey Ginseng “Green” I had this morning, there is no green tea taste to be found in this. It doesn’t really taste particularly of pomegranate either, but every once in a while when I swish it around I get a hint of it before it goes back to Kool-Aid.

I dunno. It’s…interesting, and it certainly has flavor, but I’m sorry – this isn’t tea. I don’t think I’m going to finish this cup.

It has been a strange week without cable and internet. I’ve only had a chance to check out Steepster a few times. I’ve also not been drinking much tea this week. I think there’s some connection ;)

I’m at my parents and this was an option. I’m really digging the bright flavor and beautiful purple color. Drinking my 3rd cup as I type.

I got a decaf version of this in the bulk section of a local supermarket. I knew that there was a chance a pomegranate tea would have hibiscus and boy does it ever! Blech! It does get better with sugar and once it cools, but it tastes more like juice than tea.

Nathaniel and I went to St. Michael’s, MD for a wine festival this past weekend, and we stayed at a cute B&B, Five Gables Inn. They had hot water and RoT teas available during the day, and after walking around town all day I decided to grab a cup and soak in the huge bathtub.

The pomegranate flavor completely overwhelmed the green tea flavor. The worst part was that the flavoring had a false note, so it wasn’t even a pleasant cup of fruity (not-green) tea.

I’m stunned reading all these reviews of this tea since I came on here to rave about it. Oh well…here goes…

I got a teabag sample of this with my The Republic of Tea catalog. I was all excited since I love their Red Velvet Chocolate tea. I’ve been wanting to try other flavors of theirs.

I made this tea this morning & it was wonderful!
First off, the water turned this pretty plummy/purple/reddish color. It actually made me laugh. No joke. The person next to me in the cafe this morning here at work must have thought I was insane…okay, I get that look all the time…

Then the smell hit me. It smelled simple & fruity. Sweet & wonderful. And then the taste…the first sip was mild, the second sip was delicious.

It’s a very simple green. You will get more of the fruit flavor & less of the green tea flavor, which bothers me, but at the same time, I still liked it.

I didn’t get to make a second cup as I accidentally threw out the first cup. Oh well. If I want more, I’m going to have to buy it. And I just might.

This isn’t my favorite green tea with pomegrante, but it’s not bad.

I remembered hating this tea, but a bag of it came with my RoT catalog so I brewed it anyway. Yep, I still hate it. Like drinking a melted lollypop.
I can’t stand red fruit teas. They’re all the same kool-aid and lollypops. Why even bother to put green tea in this one, apart from the health benefits of it I guess?… Blegh. I had to laugh when I saw that this was the freebie of choice in the catalog. The only thing worse would have been one of the hibiscus teas.
I guess free is free though- I should have passed this one on to someone else.

I have had this tea before but I liked it a little better this time. I remember it being a little more sour. This cup seemed a little smoother and sweeter. There was still that sour note that is present in most fruit teas, but overall I enjoyed the cup. Not something I would purchase for myself, but I liked the sample.

I was under the impression that this company made quality tea (the ridiculous amounts of money you pay for a fancy looking tin of tea bags certainly says so). Still, I went into this knowing that I wasn’t going to get something amazing out of a teabag, but I expected it to be better than a grocery store teabag. It wasn’t. It tasted EXACTLY like these pomegranate green tea bags that Salada (a cheap grocery store brand) makes. ZERO green tea taste whatsover. All that this tastes like is hibiscus and a very artificial and medicinal pomegranate flavoring. I’m glad I got this as a free sample. All I can say is that these people are very good at marketing low quality teas with aesthetically pleasing packaging, attractive names, and promises of antioxidants. Slap the word “antioxidants” on a bag of lawn clippings and rich housewives everywhere will buy it by the kilo…

Thank you to the Republic of Tea for sending me this Pomegranate Green Tea sampler. I decided to give it a try today.

This tea is rich with the flavor of Pomegranate, making for a very sweet cup, liquor like brew. I am grateful for having this cup; I sip it slowly; as opposed to slurping.

Lightly sipping this tea while taking in the sweetness in the flavor of the pome. Looking forward to the day, is my mantra. I pray it last.

I have been looking for a bagged tea like this. For whatever reason, green tea and pomegranate is delightful, though I can’t say it tastes strongly of either, so the blend is pretty decent. Unlike a lot of flavored teas, there’s very little indication of some cheap, chemical flavoring. Keep some sugar handy.

Not too bitter, not too sweet; don’t steep it too long, or I fear the green tea will hiss at you from your teacup (am I the only one that uses teacups anymore?!). If you must use just-boiled water (as I do), steep it for a shorter period than you’d expect. The tea should turn a lovely russet-purple (pomegranate!) color. Perfect for fall, and I bet it’s delicious iced!
