From Teavivre

Dragon Well green tea, or “Long Jing”, is commonly regarded as one of China’s top ten teas, and is often served to visiting heads of state. Apart from its delightfully sweet taste, with none of the bitterness that sometimes characterizes other green teas, Xihu Long Jing’s significant difference from other green teas is the smooth flat appearance of the tea leaves. TeaVivre have selected a great example of this premium Xihu Long Jing tea.

Whenever you feel upset or restless, Long Jing Tea is the perfect drink to relax and calm you.

Origin: Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China

Yum, yum, yum!

I have been waiting to get a miss from TeaVivre, but I really don’t think it’s going to happen. I opened up the package on this one to be met with an alfalfa-like scent. Every time this happens with a green, I’m sorely disappointed, so I was expecting not to care for this tea much.

I was very surprised when it turned out to be absolutely delicious! It’s got a very, very tiny hint of grass to it, but not the awful mowed-grass flavor I was expecting. No, this one is crisp and fresh tasting, with some butter to it. It’s wonderful! And it’s so nice and light, and such a pretty color. I’m off to make some more!

Very nice tea with no astringency and a very pleasant vegetal taste.
Second steep however seemed too weak for my taste.

This is a delightful Long Jing. I have enjoyed it hot and cold-it is smooth and gentle, yet quite flavorful. No bitterness. I got 3 to 4 steepings, starting with 1 1/2 min, but added 30 sec for each subsequent steep.

Winter is dead and gone. Spring is floating about. Teavivre’s Premium Dragonwell is glistening in the cup.

Chestnuts! This tea has a nutty flavor that most echoes chestnuts. The dry and wet leaf of this dragonwell exhibit a grassy-nuttiness. But in the liquor scent, the chestnuts come out to play. This is not a light and grassy green. This dragonwell is on the heavier side. The pronounced chestnut taste is prevalent throughout the sip. The aftertaste leaves a nutty flavor in the back of the throat and a slight astringency in the front of the mouth. The key to enjoying this tea is to not overbrew. Testing on multiple pots, when brewed for 2:00 and slightly longer at 175, the tea becomes overly heavy and dense. The nuttiness can overwhelm in such a brew. The sweet spot is to brew this right at 1:30 at 175 and not a second longer. Such a brew leaves this dragonwell lighter and in better overall balance.

This is an enjoyable green. It’s not the green that I will reach for daily. It’s one that needs to work in concert with the right mood and setting. Teavivre’s nutty dragon does well.

I had the opportunity to taste this one thanks to PeppermintPlant My first sip reminded me of pineapple. I was intrigued. I really enjoyed the lightness of this tea. I too am not usually a fan of green teas but this one was really unique. It smelled very much like hay and grass before brewing but became much more citrus like in the cup. This one is going on the Christmas list….

This is easily one of the best Dragonwell’s I’ve had to date. OMG, The smell! Immediately after opening the package, I was completely amazed by the smell! It kind of reminded me of fish food flakes (I MEAN THAT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE). It had that light, oceanic smell. The taste followed up on the smell’s promise. It was fantastic! Super-fresh, high-grade Dragonwell. It was more vegetal than most Dragonwell’s I’ve tried. It was a little less on the nutty/toasty side, which was great by me!

I taste an excellent range of flavors from this tea. There is a nice nuttiness at first and then a grassy vegetal flavor with a sweetness that comes on at the end. One of my favorite green teas I have tried, and overall a rich and complex tea.

This green tea was impressive. The dried leaves are delicate, smell of fresh-cut grass, and open elegantly in my teacup.

I had to drink three cups before I felt I could write a review. The flavor is so light and clean, and I drank it all too quickly, for me to have done it justice with just one tasting. The tea is fresh, simple, cleansing to the palette. There is absolutely no bitterness to be found, even when steeping a tad longer than recommended. The lack of bitterness in aftertaste, just before the sweet bit, may make it seem like less of a green tea experience, but I assure that it is not.

I personally believe that sugar and even honey could ruin the delicate essence of the drink. Maybe a smidge of a light honey would be okay.

Overall, this is the smoothest and lightest green tea I have had the opportunity to enjoy. I will certainly be drinking this for years to come.

Long time no see Steepster! Well I have been coming to this site on and off but it’s certainly been quite a while since I actually sat down and decided to put some notes down. Well one factor in making such a decision is that I got this particular green tea from Teavivre as a sample, so I wanted to make a note of how I felt about this tea before it was all gone. Looks like I’ll have enough for two more teapots, and I must say that Teavivre was quite generous with the amount they put into that little package.

So, how DO I feel about this tea? Well, I’ve always heard good things about Dragon Well teas but their high price tag kept me away from actually ordering them. This is the first time I’ve tried it and I must say I’m quite impressed. First off the liquor smells like a mix of vegetables, hard to pinpoint what vegetable exactly, but it’s there. You also get a hint of bitterness from the smell. The taste is quite different, resembling rice or even toasted sesame seeds. In one word, nutty. Not much of the bitter taste coming through, although you can sense it if you pay close attention. Mouth feel is incredibly smooth, almost velvety. I can see why Dragon Well is highly praised. I’m happy to know that there are green teas out there that I can learn to love besides Gunpowder green tea, which is currently one of my favourites.
