Black Supreme

There is snow again, so I’m inside with tea and a video game. This tea reminds me of English Breakfast. It has that sweet, dark malty scent. The flavour is bold, and a bit molasses. Good for Winter, but on the strong side.

Smells boldly of malt and molasses – a very nice aroma. I drank this straight. The burnt orange liquor is clear, full-bodied and flavorful. I taste mostly malt, and then fruity (grapes, plums) notes after the tea cools down a bit.

The packaging and website don’t say where this black tea comes from, but it seems like it’s African. It’s not bad. Not complex or out of the ordinary, but still enjoyable as an everyday morning cup if you want to take a black tea without milk and/sugar. It gives your taste buds a good jolt!

This (generous) sample was provided for free in exchange for subscribing to Tealated’s email newsletter. (I don’t remember whether reviews were promised or not, but I’m going to assume they were!) This is a blend of black teas, though they don’t tell you which black teas, which is one of my pet peeves with tea sellers. It appears to be a mix of a CTC black and a broken leaf black, and I’m sure there’s probably Assam in there somewhere. Dry scent is mostly musty hay.

This is just okay for me. To its credit, it didn’t get bitter even though the leaves are broken. The flavor is just kind of generic “black tea”, so I’m not sure whether it’s Ceylon or Assam or what, but most likely it’s comprised of those two. It’s not bad, it’s smooth with no astringency, but it’s a tad boring.
