#SPB5 Cranberry Apple

Hot, this was rather sour, earthy, and unexciting. Cold, it’s still pretty earthy and needs lots of sugar to be tasty. So it was all right, but far from my favorite fruity tea. I just needed it to be sweeter.

I think this is maybe my favourite tea from the day!? It’s a pretty simple blend and there’s not really anything interesting in the ingredients list or unique about the composition but it is tasty for what it is! Very bright, juicy and acidic/tart with a little sweetness. The immediate flavour I get is a sharp (but not acrid) hibiscus with an undertone of cranberry – I can see why you’d go with a hibiscus heavy mix to get that sharp cranberry note and it mostly pays off in my opinion but it does feel a little more like hibiscus than cranberry. I think what I want is a little more “crispness” to the finish or a little more sweetness to give more of a jammy cranberry; not both but just one or the other. The apple is nice; it’s the main source of sweetness in the blend, I’d wager, and after the bright notes of hibby/cran I think that sweeter/juicier apple note at the end of the sip is a really strong way to finish the cup.

I described it to a coworker today as “the perfect tart drink when you want a fruity tea you don’t have to think about” and I stand by that. I think it’d be great iced, too.

Sample from VariaTEA! this one is quite pleasant for me as i don’t mind hibiscus. I have a hard time with cranberries but this was fairly tasty both hot and as it cooled, and i didn’t add any sweetner to it. Thanks V!

Tea Revv Advent Calendar – Day 7

I haven’t had much tea today. I drank a couple of teas at work, but for some reason haven’t felt tea-ish since I got home. But I have to do my advent teas so having at least one pot this evening! :)

This is just a typical fruit tisane with hibiscus. It’s quite tart, and could use a bit more sweetness to balance it better. I do get both cranberry and apple, so that’s nice.

It’s not terribly sour, but it really would need some added sweetener to shine. Definitely nothing special.

Once again, I’m liking a non-tea from Tea Revv. This is a constant for the most part so far. There is nicely balanced cranberry and apple in here. There’s that puckery scent and flavor that is quintessential cranberry, but just a nice hint of it and it doesn’t overpower. I get a hint of some sweeter berry which I’ll assume is the elderberry, but since I don’t know how that specifically tastes, I can’t swear to that. (I just listed it as “berry” in the tastes, since I’m not 100% sure.) Something weird I am noticing is that I’m also eating some pretzels (yes, weird combo, I admit) and after that saltiness, the tea tastes rather dusty somehow.

My weird taste buds are doing weird things here. I can sort of get Apple and some cranberry but I’m also getting wax and dirt and honestly I blame the cold and not the tea. I saved a sample of this for another time. I’ll rate this tea then.
