From Tao Tea Leaf

This is a fantastically sweet and floral green tea that has recently been gaining popularity in the word of Chinese tea. This tea has won a slew of awards including the ‘King of Tea’ award in 2004 at the China tea exhibition.

Our Tai Ping Hou Kai is strong and floral with fruity scents, subtle hints of apricot. The liquor is thick but very light. It tastes subtly sweet with a grassy aftertaste.

Region: Houkeng Village, Anhui Province, China

I found a small sample of this tea tucked away that I’ve had for who-knows-how-long – probably the last time the GCTTB came through about a year ago. The tea leave look more like flattened piece of a dried seaweed than tea to me and they don’t ‘puff up’ at all during the brewing process. The tea has a pleasantly sweet scent that’s reminiscent of certain green oolongs. The flavour is lightly floral and a little bit fruity with a grassy, slightly toasty finish. The description mentioned apricots and I can definitely see that, though that wasn’t quite what came to mind for me when I sipped it. A very nice, high-quality green with a rather unique flavour profile.

GCTTB

Thanks scribbles for putting this one in the box. I know it’s a pricey tea.

I tried it out today. Didn’t get any pictures but brewed it in my glass teapot to see the pretty leaves.

First infusion was so good. Fruity and apricot tasting . There was a bit of the nutty flavour I always get in most greens too. This one was lightly sweet and smooth.
Sooo good.

I didn’t get around to a 2nd infusion until later and was hoping for more of that apricot/fruity taste but it was only a basic green for the 2nd infusion. I was disappointed. The first infusion was so fantastic. Maybe I let the leaves sit too long between infusions.

Anyway, it’s totally worth it just to get that first infusion. I rarely brew green teas more than once.

Inspired by TheLastDodo – she sent me some from a different company, and wanted to try more.
