From Steep City Teas

“Just remember, the sweet is never as sweet without the sour, and I know the sour ”-Vanilla Sky. Well, we know the sour, so we only bring you the sweets. Inspired by the movie’s frozen picturesque sky, this blend will leave a smooth, soft, velvety vanilla note wrapped with a slight grenadine touch. It really is a beautiful vanilla sky for your taste buds to behold.

So…i drank this yesterday before my mouth decided it wanted to eat me from the inside out. This was one of the teas i’d really been looking forward to. I suppose i should have paid attention to the fact that Vanilla Sky might as well be monk’s blend. But i didn’t. So i was disappointed. So much so that i logged the tea and didn’t write anything until today. sigh I have 2 other teas to try from Steep City but i’m much less excited about it now. For all i know, i wasn’t paying attention to those teas either and they’ll have something icky i don’t like or be essentially other teas i’ve had before.

Sooo looks like other people get some tea. that makes me sad.

especially since i can’t have any tea today because i need to figure out what’s going on with my mouth/face….and i’m still waiting for the dorcot to get back to me on my high white blood cell count…and i didn’t sleep enough last night because of testing.

sigh I wish it was tomorrow.

Nicole

Oh, no! Good luck with the doctor.

Bonnie

Bah…let us know…and God Bless you Sil!

Sil

thanks you guys. I’m not stressing about anything but man it certainly feels like i’m coming apart at the seams this week lol Mostly i was just really bummed out about this tea being . it’s my own fault for not paying attention but man someday i wish tea companies would stick to the same name haha.

ohfancythat

I’m going to have to go google “monk’s blend” now. Something new everyday!!

Sil

naw don’t bother lol there’s some in your tea box hahahaha

david

Hey Sil, Sorry that you didn’t enjoy the tea. 28 seems like a real buster…

david

we hope you like the other teas better…

Sil

David – Hope so as well. I think it was mostly that although you’ve renamed it “vanilla sky” it’s monk’s blend. Shame on me for not realizing it, but i somehow missed the grenadine. However, had it been “monk’s blend” i would have known right off the bat not to get it.

david

Hey Sil, no intention on our behalf to ‘mislead’ or ‘rename’, we just love grenadine… in any case… sorry for that.

Sil

David – no worries. No harm, no foul Just 2 oz of tea to get rid of lol (well swap hopefully) :) On that note, love the packaging :)

Full review on http://sororiteasisters.com/ on the 11th of April but here are the snippets:

Vanilla Sky from Steep City Teas is their version of what many of you may know as Monk’s Blend.

There is a trick to this tea however, and it fairs far better when iced. I do not find this to be as true with Monk’s blend from a couple other companies I have tried, but with Steep City’s Vanilla Sky it is so much better when you let it cool to a room temp or even slightly cool. The vanilla flavor comes out so much stronger, and the grenadine is more present as well.

This is not a tea for everyone, I have seen many reviews for other companies Monk’s Blend get varied reviews – more of a love it or hate it, to middle of the road, meh type of tea. What I have found however may change some people’s opinions of this blend. Also I have seen that many people just don’t care for grenadine. Regardless if you have this tea, from Steep City or another vendor in your stash, give it a try cooled, or even iced or cold brewed in your fridge.

I will say, this is by far, not my favorite tea from Steep City Teas, they have some blends that are out of this world, but I can see why they would want this in their offerings, because it is a rather well known blend.

Sil

Ill have to try this cold

KallieBoo!

Vanilla Sky just seems like a lovely name for a tea.

Rie

Seconding how lovely the name is!

david

Thanks guys, it seems this may be the only doozy in our stock that people aren’t really enjoying. May be the last time we blend it.

Azzrian

Could not hurt and I am always happy to give it a second go around as well. David its not BAD its just not AS amazing as your other teas which are really out of this world!

I got this as a surprise sample from Sil. Sil, you’re awesome!

I was excited to try this tea, mostly because I had to run out and do some errands. And I have a brand new travel mug for loose leaf tea to try. So I brewed it up and ran out the door.

I am not sure how to describe this tea. The dry tea smells like a sweet black tea. But the smell is very generic, and hard to describe. The taste of the brewed tea is very black tea prominent. There is a fruit sugar smell to it. I don’t get any taste, or any hint of vanilla. The vanilla may be there but it is masked by this generic fruit sugar taste. After drinking through my travel mug, it dawned on me that this tea tastes almost the same as one of my apricot teas, and that is the fruit sugar taste I am getting.

I have enough tea left for another time, I might decrease the water temp a bit and increase the steep time and see what happens.

Thanks Sil! I’ll admit that I only wanted to try this tea because of the name. Vanilla Sky just sounds pretty :] The flavor is ok but it’s not the best vanilla tea I’ve had. It has a nice smooth, sweet vanilla flavor. It’s sweeter than other vanilla teas I’ve noticed. Glad I got to try this one. Thanks again Sil!

1.5 tbsp for 375 ml

Smooth overall flavour. A little twinge of strong astringency. The full savoury aroma does not translate well into the flavour. Flavouring very faint.

Thanks to Sil for sharing this with me.

This is decent, but certainly not my new favourite vanilla tea. I’m mostly tasting the vanilla in the aftertaste not the actual sip. Kinda disappointing since Steep City Teas are usually really pretty good.

And work is horrible and I’m going to die of boredom.
