On the Ninth Day of Christmas, SBT sent me this tea!

Yum, yum, yum! This is one of the best teas of this christmas countdown. And I’ve loved quite a few of the teas that I’ve received … but this one might just be right there at that top spot.

A good rendition of a vanilla cola. Frank really nails the cola flavors that he creates, and this one is no exception. Nice notes of vanilla, the cola comes through and I can almost taste the carbonation of it. The black tea is not just a background flavor, either.

Really, really good. Almost as good as the lime cola. Almost!

My first SBT. I was lazy and cold steeped it (that’s my preferred method most of the time anyway), a little worried it’d be too subtle or bitter or something given it was designed to be conventionally iced, but it’s really good! At the front you just get refreshing iced tea flavor; most of the vanilla and cola notes come out at the end of the sip and linger, and the more you drink the more those flavors build. Really enjoyable. Curious how it’d be turned into a tea syrup concentrate a la Southern sweet tea, then added to club soda.

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – May Tea #6:- A soda tea

Still distinctly cola! Maybe less vanilla, but either way it’s another sipdown I’m a little sad about.  If I were to say my favorite soda, it would probably be Vanilla Coke or Dr Pepper, so I’m glad Frank made a Vanilla cola tea back in the day.    I’m so glad the flavor lasted to the last drop — two steeps!

Mastress Alita

I’m a Dr. Pepper person through and through, and have yet to find even a somewhat reasonable recreation of it in tea-form….which really needs to be rectified…

tea-sipper

hah, DrPepper would be a tough flavor to recreate.

I cold brewed overnight, and probably used more water than I should have but it turned out great! Although not for the sophisticated palate this tastes exactly like little cola candies- the ones with the sugar sprinkled all over. It’s a happy tea :) quite fun.

P.S. I am back! :P

Today’s iced tea for work. I gave this my usual treatment (3 mins in 1/4 pint boiling water, topped up to 2 litres with cold and into the fridge overnight). It tastes beautifully of cola — absolutely, ridiculously spot on. How does Frank do it?! It’s flat cola, to be sure, but it’s cola! What I can’t really taste here is vanilla, which is a shame because I was particularly looking forward to that aspect. There’s a very mild creamy sweetness kicking around in the background, but it’s not enough to make me really say “yeah, that’s vanilla.” I do like cola flavoured iced tea, though, and this is a good one. I’d definitely try another bag at some point in the future to see if I can eke out some vanilla flavour. A good treat for a hot day, all the same!

I ordered this one a while ago, with three other SBT iced teas, but I’ve only just gotten around to pulling them out and trying one. I steeped it for the recommended amount of time, but beyond that, the instructions were very vague… So I’m not sure if it’s because I steeped it in too much water, or because I added too much water after the fact, or what. It was a bit weak. The flavor of vanilla cola was certainly present, and quite tasty, but I think the instructions need to be a bit more explicit? I don’t make iced tea that often, and so I’m not really used to the dynamics. My hubby’s usually the one who does it. I’ll go ahead and rate this one according to the flavoring, which was indeed quite good. :)

It is a bit of a challenge to squeeze good directions onto that label, but we do have more fleshed-out instructions here: http://www.southernboyteas.com/how-to-prepare-our-teas

Yay! Tastes good. Oh my goodness, this is such a busy week. This is a good tasting tea because I could tell what it was even when I’d forgotten what it was, till I got home to check. I love my hydroflask, still cold iced tea even at the end of the day in the car in Hawaii. I went to help with the food/supply distribution for peoples still trying to get by after the ‘tropical storm’ after work today. Cannot believe how lucky we are to have power and water when so many still do not.
