From Lupicia

A delicious tea with a flavour easily compared to that of a famous Taiwanese desert. The intense sweetness of pineapple is fused with an Oolong base. Ideal at the end of a meal, or as an afternoon treat.

I’m going through my teas trying to get rid of things I don’t want anymore, so check the US swap thread! In a couple days I may make a box to sell again because I really need to clear stuff out of my apartment and really cut down on how much I have.

For some reason I thought I never drank this, when in fact I did drink it hot. I decided to try it iced.

It brews up very pale, so I may have let it go a little longer than intended. The floral notes of the oolong are so STRONGLY orchid this way to the point it’s almost overwhelming. It hits really hard in the aftertaste.

The pineapple is very subtle, but it blends so beautifully into the floral notes of the oolong. I’m saving the wet leaves to cold brew and we’ll see how that goes.

As it mellows out in the glass, there’s more of a creaminess to it. While this is nice, especially if you like orchid filled oolongs, it just could use a little bit more pineapple. But seriously as a floral oolong this is awesome. This might be the first time I am having an oolong like this iced so I’m still a bit apprehensive but I think I’ll start to love it.

edit: I think I like it better when it’s more room temperature than iced. The flavors are more well rounded which is much more enjoyable than feeling like you’ve been hit in the mouth with an orchid. I’m still going to cold brew the leaves though. Maybe the steep took some of that oomph out of them.

Yum! Gonna watch the swap thread.

I was poking through my stash, opening tins to see how much was left of certain teas and sniffing them at the same time. There were a lot of delicious smelling teas in there, but for some reason when I sniffed this one it just made my mouth water and I had to make a cup.

I am going to boost my rating on this one as it really is delicious. It’s not just the pineapple but the coconut too… a little piña colada-y, but not too much for the morning. Last time I wished for more buttery oolong flavor, and I do still want more butteriness from the oolong, but the flavorings are so good it doesn’t matter all that much. This is certainly tasty and a nice balance of flavoring.

I keep seeing this tea in the cupboard and thinking that I should have it again soon, and tonight I finally got around to it. This is one of my favourite teas and it’s been too long since I last had it.

This is what a fruit-flavoured tea should taste like. The pineapple taste is distinctly present, but it doesn’t overwhelm the flavour of the tea, either. It would be hard to find a more perfectly balanced tea than this one.

I’ve never seen pineapple in a tea flavour before, unless it’s included in a tropical fruits mix. And those, to my experience, usually taste largely of passion fruit. I could imagine it would work well though, what with pineapples having a sour kind of flavour. Bit like how citrus fruits usually work well as tea flavours.

Luthien

Before this tea I’d only really had pineapple in tea as part of a pina colada tea, so it was always mixed with the flavour of coconut. This one is supposed to be something like the flavour of Taiwanese pineapple dessert, so I think it’s a little sweeter and less tart than actual pineapple. Finding a fruit tea this good makes up for all my trials and tribulations with the less good fruit teas. g

Sounds good to me I definitely have to put this on my shopping list- YUM.

Tasty!

Sweet pineapple and creamy coconut together with a rich, buttery Oolong. Very nice indeed. The pineapple is sweet with a tart finish and tastes very authentic. The tartness lingers long into the aftertaste … it’s like I just bit into a fresh piece of pineapple! Very yummy.

Overall, a sweet, smooth, creamy cup. Liking this very much.

Must order! I have looking for some things to flesh out a Lupicia order!

LiberTEAS

I need to place an order within the next month or two also… as my subscription will soon expire! I like getting the monthly newsletter and sample!

ashmanra

I didn’t know about that! Thanks!

Angrboda

That sounds gorgeous.

TeaBrat

Yes, I love that oolong from Lupicia!

Glo

I can imagine this one as a great summer time treat.

I got this in my swap with Will Work For Tea—is it just me, or are oolong and pineapple a very popular flavor combination recently? Or maybe I’m just noticing them more? In any case, I like oolong and I like pineapple, and I’ve found that I really enjoy Lupicia’s fruit-flavored blends so I knew I couldn’t go wrong with this!

The dry leaves don’t smell like pineapple, they smell like a milk oolong! With flavored oolongs I dislike when the “flavor” parts overpower the actual tea, so this made me happy. Plus, you know, I love milk oolongs. After a 13-hour cold brew the pineapple is a lot more subtle than I thought it would be. The oolong is front and center, buttery, sweet and creamy. I don’t know what kind they used, but it really does remind me a lot of a milk oolong, with gentle floral notes in the background as well. The floral aspect reminds me of Butiki’s pineapple oolong, though they are a bit less potent here. The pineapple comes in at the end of the sip, subtle and a bit tangy as pineapple should be. Very natural tasting and not artificial. Another winner from Lupicia, I really need to make an order there soon!

Kittenna

Not just you. Butiki just came out with the flowery pineapple oolong, and DavidsTea also did! I’m excited to try both! And probably this one from Lupicia too, not like I need another company to order from :/

Alphakitty

The Butiki one is the best I’ve tried (though that’s kind of obvious!), I think I’m gonna go to the nearest Davids and get a cup of this iced just to compare them all before I actually commit to buying one.

Thank you Will Work For Tea for this Sample!

Tonight granddaughter Megan (OldSoul on Steepster) and I are trying a couple of Oolongs and I’ve started a box of tea samples to get her started with her Steepster reviews.

This was our first tasting.

I tried to brew this Pineapple Oolong in a small pot which became a disaster. Too much water to Oolong tea produced a weak liquor. Bleh.
This would be part of this evenings learning experience! I wasn’t going to quit!
Reaching for my 4oz Gaiwan, I transfered the wet leaves and began steeping in the Gaiwan for 2 minutes.
Now the liquor was rich and yellow, full of orchid and pineapple scent.
This was what I had hoped for.
Megan smiled.
We added a little sweetening and sipped the smooth, pineapple flavored tea.
One of the things I pointed out to her was the change in texture as the tea cooled. The discovery of butteriness was something new for Megan. She was surprised at how floral the tea became as the cooling increased and how sweet the tea was without hardly any sugar.
Ah…
This was what I had hoped for.
What a delight to drink tea with Megan.

Although the Oolong orchid flavor is quite tasty, the pineapple is not nearly as good and pronounced as the Butiki Oolong which I prefer.

Aw yeah. I really need to invest in getting me a tin of this!
Thanks so much for the sample TeaBrat!!
I love how the base pairs with the pineapple. It’s SO subtle. One of those teas I could just gulp down like I haven’t had water for days. Seriously. I am in love.
Now, the last time I had this, I wasn’t so sure. I’m not sure what’s changed. The tea, or my tastes? Either way… I am happy :D

Anna

So much Lupicia on my dash right now, loving it. <3

Sample sipdown! I believe Dr. Dinosara sent me this one ages ago. I hoarded it because it was so tasty! All gone now though :)

I love how juicy and natural the pineapple flavor is…pairs really well with the bright green tangy oolong!

Dinosara

I actually got a new stash of this in my happy bag this year! Yay for pineapple oolong!

Stephanie

Sweet! I will have to make due with just my pineapple Sencha for a while :)

not a bad cup of tea…but i vastly prefer stacy’s. Not sorry to finish this one up, since i find that this one loses it’s flavours once opened…though that’s in part because of me heh. An enjoyable cup of pineapple tea…but man, i really am going to miss stacy’s version :(

Buttery fresh green oolong. Sweet tropical pineapple. A hint of creamy rich coconut.

Mmm… Green oolong, my true love.

Brothy mouthfeel. Refreshingly cleansing feeling on the tongue. Eminently slurpable. There should be more flavored green oolongs. Especially from Lupicia. Utterly fantastic ripe luscious pineapple flavor. Love. And it’s not trying to mask the tea base. The quality comes through and supports the fruitiness, keeping if from being too sweet. I would certainly enjoy this without the pineapple, but it wouldn’t fulfill my desire for a light fruity tea.

:)
