Sipdown! 50/365

Another one I thought I reviewed. Mysterious. Anyhow, thanks to MissB for this interesting-sounding tea! My recollection is that I was unable to taste curry last time, although I don’t recall the other flavours. This time? It’s a lightly minty(?!) fruity tea, and I’m trying really hard to pick out curry (I’m thinking curry powder here), but it is not appearing. Sounds like this was fairly common among those of us who tried it. Too bad; it’s a solid meh for me, when it could have been really interesting (or really terrible!)

OMGsrsly (or someone else who passed along this tea) wrote “interesting” on my sample packet, which essentially sums this tea up. It’s not the savory spices that are “interesting”, but the fact that I don’t get pineapple from this pineapple tea at all.

The dry blend smells of tropical fruits, but the fruitiness to taste is more a fuzzy peach, banana runts, or even plantain/banana with the finish and aftertaste- also reminiscent of a clove and banana accented hefeweizen. But, just as there’s a smiley face at the end of that “interesting” on my packet, this tea is a lot of fun- you just have to accept it for it is.

The aroma of the broth is probably the most “pineapple-y” aspect of this tea, so I’ll continue to breathe deep. Although now I want a plantain tea. Or a German Wheat Beer. Whichever is closer.

I had such high hopes for this tea when I got it in Grenoble!

Fjellrev

Damnit, now I want hefeweizen too.

Crowkettle

I always want a hefeweizen, and it’s the season for them too! Also, knowing this tea is from such a beautiful place like Grenoble is special. The tea is not what the packet led me to believe but I still really like it!

Sipdown (118)!

Thank you MissB for the sample!

This is actually one of the teas you sent that I was most excited to try – I don’t know why I left it for so long. As is pretty well known, I love pineapple but don’t actually like spices too much. However, I have had pineapple curry before and I really enjoyed it so I was super open minded about this one.

The smell of this one is lightly pineapple, and steeped up it’s very supple with a soft sweetness to it. It’s a little bit candy like – but not over the top or overly artificial tasting. The osmanthus in this was nice; even though I don’t recall seeing any in the measured out leaf I felt like I was tasting the slightly sweet, whispy floral notes that I associate with it. I’m a big fan of pineapple and floral pairings – as far as I can recall everyone I’ve had has been well executed. I’m personally not very familiar with mistletoe so I don’t know if I can accurately weigh in on how that ingredient presented itself in the blend. I did try looking it up, but the one relatively reliable site I found said it has a very bitter taste – and that’s certainly not something I observed with this blend, so either that’s not an accurate description of mistletoe’s flavour or it doesn’t come through in the tea.

Sadly, neither did anything remotely ‘curry’ like – not even a little bit. That’s definitely disappointing especially since the curry aspect is in the name of the tea. If you can’t deliver on what your tea is named after, you definitely lose a few points in my book. The green base was nice; it was light and just a touch sweet and grassy. It definitely complimented the floral notes and pineapple well.

So overall I thought this was a nice tea and I certainly enjoyed it – but it’s nothing like what I expected and the name isn’t accurate at all so if you’re going to try it keep a very open mind and don’t expect the curry to come through too much, if at all.

Whoa! I really liked this one!

It’s like CANDY. Sort of. With a hint of something extra.

Yum yum yum.

Too bad I have to share. :D Definitely going to try a cold brew of this one, but I’ll make it a short cold brew of 4-6 hours.

Thanks so much, MissB and Sil!

Drinking it cold it’s like papaya. Fresh sweet papaya. Not banana and curry.

TeaBrat

i was SUPPPPEEEEEEEEEEER excited when MissB told us she had found this one in her travels. Like HOLY GET THAT PLEASE! because pineapple? yes. curry? interesting….different…YAY! As it turns out, i think this may end up being a blend that indigobloom likes…but then, maybe not lol. this one smells a great deal like pineapple something. yes. something. brewed though….i kept tasting peach. and i’m tired of peach. it was peach and then not peach and then something else…but never pineapple and not what in my head a curry tea would taste like. But it wasn’t terrible…just..not what i expected…or built in my head. and peach? bah. no peach! clearly my tastebuds are duds today.

Indigobloom

pineapple… curry?! I am intrigued!!

OMGsrsly

This sounds so cool!

Roswell Strange

Kittenna

Pineapple curry tea? Seriously? Okay, had to try it. Smallest amount I could get was 50g, which actually costs less than drinking it in store. Smells strongly of pineapple and tastes sweetly, lightly of it as well… light as a feather, not light as in lightly sweetened. I get the curry, but it’s oh-so-faint, and only popped when the tea was hot and with sweetener. Nice, glad I tried it, but time to share with others.

Wow, this sounds interesting yet oddly delicious at the same time.

Sil

Strange but interesting!

gmathis

I can see how the two would fit together, I think…

MissB

I’ve had pineapple curry in Thai dishes, so I was kinda (?) hoping for that. Not the same at all, would be fun to try to make rice with it though.

VariaTEA

This is certainly a unique sounding tea.
