My first tea from this company thanks to the TTB! This tastes a little toasty from the hojicha, and other than that I taste a lot of mint. There’s not much chocolate. The toasty and mint flavors go okay together, but not super beautifully. I prefer other mint chocolate teas, though this has been fun.

I really wanted to like these chocolate hojicha blends, but they’ve fallen a bit flat for me as well… A shame, as I do really like her cinnamon raisin version.

I think chocolate and green tea together get an “ugh” from me…far too different in flavor personalities!

It sort of makes sense when it comes to hojicha for me, since it’s so roasty. And I was thankful that she just used cocoa and cacao nibs instead of adding chocolate flavoring.

Good point!

I meant to make this as a latte but then didn’t leave enough room in the cup. Oops. I enjoyed the hojicha base but just wasn’t keen on the overall flavour; not surprising as I typically don’t like peppermint or spearmint in tea. Definitely enjoy the concept, however!

Not normally a fan of spearmint paired with chocolate but I still wanted to try this because the combo of mint/chocolate with the hojicha base seemed really delicious and a fun twist to that more classic flavour profile…

I was surprised by how much I liked this! I still wish it was exclusively peppermint and not spearmint as well, but the spearmint was milder than the peppermint and the overall level of mint was good to me. I also think the sweetness of the spearmint was probably beneficial to the blend as the combination of the dark and roasty hojicha and the very raw cacao powder could have potentially felt a little too raw and not quite as rich without some element of sweetness to perk up those flavours. It does taste a bit more like a hot cocoa than a “truffle” with the strong cacao flavour but it’s really nice. I like that it’s not really a waxy/overly sweet “milk chocolate” and instead embraces that small bit of bitterness. I’m trying to think of what would have made it more truffle like to me, and I think it just needed to be less of the cocoa powder taste and more of a dark and dense chocolate. No cream though – I’m happy for the lack of cream.

Excited to try this one. I love hojicha!

It’s very tasty, but I feel like there’s a bit too much mint here. It overpowers both the cocoa and the toasty hojicha so that they become more like supporting flavors.

I will say this is intended to be made as a latte, which I didn’t do because I don’t really drink lattes, so that would change the flavor profile a bit. But I feel like there would still be a lot of mint compared to the other flavors…

I’ll have to try it as an iced milk tea!

I can see how hojicha would be tasty with milk. Sounds like a fun warm weather experiment.

I’m not a huge fan of hojicha but this made for a really lovely latte. It was not very sweet but still perfectly captured a chocolate mint truffle in a very sophisticated and high end type of way. I will say I wanted sweetness when I made this so I was a little sad but I could still appreciate that it was a nice tea.
