From DAVIDsTEA

We’re totally smitten with this mouthwatering melon matcha. With its revitalizing base of stone-ground green tea, it’s an easy and delicious way to re-energize during a heatwave. But let’s be honest – it just wouldn’t be the ultimate fruity matcha without a succulent splash of ripe honeydew. Lively, juicy and irresistibly fresh, it’s a little slice of paradise. Serve it on ice and say hello to your new summer fling.

Price per 50g: $10.98

Smoothie Sipdown (238)

I am quickly running out of food but I leave in a week so I keep trying to avoid buying food. This smoothie saw the end of my yogurt, my matchas, and left me with only 1 frozen banana. I also have no eggs. No bread. I finished my guacamole this morning. It is getting pretty barren in here but I am trying to just survive off the freezer foods and stuff that I have lingering around.

This smoothie was tasty at least. It had a lot of honey dew flavor. The key is to not use honey and instead use a shitton of the matcha. Then the flavor comes through rather distinctively. Well, as distinctive as honeydew can.

I have the same problem. I’m out of milk but I leave for Florida on Saturday and can’t justify buying a 2L soymilk that I will not finish in time. I ate a smoothie and some celery with dip for dinner last night lol. Tonight looks like its going to be the last of the fruit and some more celery. Maybe a canned soup.

VariaTEA

I drank the little bit of this smoothie left in the blender today and decided to just order groceries haha.

Inspired by the blueberry matcha success, I tried this one with milk yesterday as well. Unfortunately, it was not nearly as good. Not so sweet, and really didn’t taste like honeydew at all. I just checked the dates on the packages, and this was from July 2017 – but the blueberry, which was quite tasty, was from Sept 2015! So blaming age would seem unfair. I’ll try the other half of the packet today, likely, and see if I can coax out any flavour.

Home – 11:00 AM

So after trying some other matcha mixes, I’m having this one again.

It’s so sweet. I added 2 teaspoons of powder to my 8 ounces of liquid. I would have liked to add more, since it’s not quite strong enough in my opinion, but then it would be even sweeter… I can taste the matcha a little, but mostly it’s a candy-like honeydew flavor that reminds me of Japanese sweets.

Ah well, I suppose this is what happens when sugar is the first ingredient listed…

I will say the texture is nice, it’s quite smooth. But this is far too sugary for me. And there’s too much flavoring here as well, in my opinion. It no longer really tastes like matcha.

This matcha is really nice as an iced latte. It reminds me of the old green tea latte that Starbucks used to make back when they carried Honeydew syrup. The powder mixes easily, and is a beautiful bright green color. It is already fairly sweet, so I didn’t need to add any extra sweetener. All is did was add 2 teaspoons of powder to 2 ounces of hot water and whisked. Then I added 4-6 ounces of cold, unsweetened almond milk and ice. It tastes like melon flavored candy with a hint of grassy green matcha. If you like honeydew and green tea together, then you will like this.

I recommend this if you like melon bubblegum. When you open the bag you get a good sniff of melon and sugar. With milk (cow) this one was a little lighter on the bubblegum flavour and more like a tea.

I also bought a matcha maker in Navy Blue so I can make matcha a bit quicker on the go. :D

I wish this one would go on sale eventually. Hope you enjoy your matcha maker!

I thought I would like this one the best but surprisingly I didn’t. It’s definitely okay, I don’t dislike it, but something about it gives it a little bit of an aftertaste… The honeydew flavour is pretty prominent as well. I like it, but it’s not my favourite of the new matchas.

Wow! Adding this to my protein smoothie really brought out the honeydew flavour. I would have expected the flavours from the cookies ‘n’ cream from my protein powder and frozen raspberries to compete too much, but the first sip was Honeydew City. I could barely even taste the actual matcha.

Now to snag some of that Blueberry Matcha for my smoothies.

Latte Sipdown (603)!

I made this up as a latte because it’s another newly announced as retiring tea so I wanted to write about it – I didn’t realize I had so little of this left that it would also be a sipdown so that was an added bonus.

This latte tasted off though; definitely a chalkiness and funky taste about the honeydew. I had observed similar the last time I had this as a latte, but at the time I chalked it up to the unusual milk alternative I was using and not the matcha. Now I’m thinking that this has just aged very, very poorly…

Honestly I’m personally indifferent about this tea retiring, but as the last “year round” melon tea on our wall I’m a little sad we’re losing that flavour profile. I suppose you can make the case that melon isn’t really a year round flavour profile, and maybe there’s some truth to that though.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Oh snap, I haven’t been drinking tea in a while, as you’ve seen, but I’m sad to hear they are getting rid of the melon-flavoured blends.

Pretty good tea for my smoothie. The melon flavoring is strong with this one.
