From DAVIDsTEA

Whether you call it “soft ice” like the Scandinavians, “merry cream” like the Lebanese or “soft whip” like the Irish, we can all agree that vanilla soft serve ice cream is a timeless and delicious dessert. So it was only a matter of time before we brought the most popular ice cream flavour in world to your teacup. This decadent infusion has all the creamy vanilla sweetness of the soft serve cone you first fell in love with as a kid. The only difference? We left out the calories and added a swirl of lemongrass. Sweet!

Ingredients: Lemongrass, pineapple (pineapple, cane sugar, citric acid, s ulfur dioxide), white chocolate (sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, whey powder, lactose, soy lecithin, natural vanilla), globe amaranth, cornflower, stevia extract, natural flavouring.

Price: $8.98 per 50g

I was so sad when I finished my tin of this tea a few weeks ago…so I bought eight more ounces, and now all is right in the world (: I add a bunch of sugar, so it’s quite sweet. I really didn’t expect to love this tea so much, but somehow the lemongrass truly does evoke a vanilla ice cream flavor. It’s not quite there, maybe more like a frozen yogurt or a milk candy. So light and tasty though. Love this.

Trick or Treat! I picked up this sampler from Ost’s cupboard sale, thank you Ost! It’s an herbal blend so I made this as my desserty before-bed cuppa tonight.

I was a bit worried by the abundance of lemongrass, which tends to be my least favorite of the lemon herbs (I like myrtle and verbena better), but the flavor actually does come out like a light lemon cream and not with that strong lemon cleaner flavor I dislike. It is quite sweet and does have notes of lemon and vanilla, but it is far more citrusy than vanilla, reminding me a bit of a lemon sorbet, so calling the tea “vanilla” swirl rather than “lemon” swirl (or at least “lemon cream” or something that evokes that citrus) seems a little odd to me?

This is nice though. It’s a flavor combo I like, especially when the citrus has that soft, sweet, meringue/dessert sort of taste and doesn’t come out like dish soap.

Like most commentors here, I expected this to be way different. How can a tea full of lemongrass taste like ice cream? Welp, it doesn’t. But it isn’t bad. It’s got a summery lemon-y flavor that I like. I like it as an evening cuppa.

I am very confused when it comes to this tea. My senses deceive me and not in a good way; even the name plays tricks with my expectations. I was very excited for this tea. The name alone brings joy to my mouth (dairy is another allergy I have) and the idea of sipping down vanilla icecream without the nasty side effects of actually nombing on icecream was bliss. Sadly this was not the case and my mouth felt very betrayed.

Dried the leaf is delectable vanilla chocolate surprise. I was in heaven and wanted to eat the dried leaf. Holding onto all inhibitions, I waited patiently for the kettle to warm and for the tea to steep. This is where my senses began to betray me. The brewed leaf produces a very pale and clear yellow, but the aroma that assaulted my nose was of lemon, not vanilla. I was no very conflicted as to what was going on. Two very drastically different aromas had begun to mess with me. Throwing caution to the wind, I took that first sip and nearly cried… lemon meringue is what I am reminded of with this drink. I was violently betrayed by a name, description, and the dried aroma.

Do not get me wrong, I love a good slice of lemon in my water and tea when I place it there myself or if I am feeling a little sick. But to be told that this would send me into icecream nirvana and then be slapped in the taste buds and olfactory with lemon, leaves me feeling betrayed.

I am sending this off with my oldest to college, perhaps she will love it more (if all else fails it can be enjoy by her grandparents; who she is bunking with and are always trying to push lemon grass tea on me during our monthly visits).

Simultaneously not at all what I was expecting and exactly what I was expecting – try that one on for size (I’m as confused as you…)
I was a bit concerned I wouldn’t like it much when I first smelled it, both in the bag and after steeping – this is vanilla? Lemongrass? It smells nothing like either to me! But the flavour is perfect and I want to finish drinking it faster and go make more… but I also want to save it!

Getting home from a two-hour (if not longer, lost track of time) walk, I had (keyword: had) a whole jug of cold brew in the fridge just waiting to be guzzled. Yeah, it’s almost gone. This works so well both cold brewed or iced. A herbal jam packed with vanilla and lemongrass? What’s not to like?

I’ve actually been drinking tea all day and didn’t think to write any notes. My sense of smell is impaired by still getting over being sick though, so idk if my perceptions will change for this tea later or not.

This is the clearest tisane I have, I think. Most of them brew up red from hibiscus or kind of tan colored. This one tinted every so slightly to yellow, but barely. The most noticeable thing to to me is the artificial sugar. I might be completely wrong and there’s no artificial sugar, but it just straight up tastes like artificial sweetener in warm water, dashed with vanilla extract. And I accidentally licked some straight vanilla extract last week while making dessert, so I know. (lol, it was dripping down my hand and I didn’t stop to think about it first. It tasted like straight vokda. Gross.)

From what I could smell of the tisane, it does bare a striking resemblance to vanilla soft serve cones. I just can’t get over the yucky sugar at the moment.

I did enjoy this tea, I did buy it on sale and ended up with 100g at 40% off. If I had paid full price I may not have been quite as happy. That being said, 100g goes a long way with this tea, I ended up with a full tin as well as a small bag on the side

It has a lemon taste with a faint vanilla finish, I know there’s pineapple in there but I can’t seem to pick it out. If you do not like sweet teas then this is not the tea for you. Due to the inherent sweetness of the tea I haven’t added a sweetener and I am unsure of what it would taste like with milk. I’ve only had it hot and I wonder what it would taste like iced. I am also curious what it would taste like as an ice pop/popsicle which I may save for a hot summer day once the warmer weather hits.

This strongly reminds me of DAVIDsTEA’s Lemon Pound Cake tea, it has very similar vanilla notes with a slight lemon flavour. I find that the vanilla notes are most predominant, followed by a light citrus, and finally the pineapple. I’m very glad that I cannot taste the pineapple in this blend. It’s a lovely light dessert tea!
