By popular demand

A lot of our fans have been asking us for a vanilla-scented rooibos, and after trying dozens of blends we finally found the perfect one. But now that we have it, we can’t believe we waited so long. We’re totally addicted. With rich rooibos, sweet vanilla beans and pretty marigolds, it’s perfectly balanced and delicately creamy. It’s great on its own, or mixed with other blends for an extra touch of richness. Thanks to everyone who wrote in! We hope you love it as much as we do

Ingredients: red rooibos, vanilla beans, marigold.

Bought the smallest amount possible of this one (8g) just to satisfy my curiousity.

While it was brewing, there was a most unpleasant aroma. Almost like…. stinky feet? Blech. Stinky, rooibosy feet. Since the tea has now cooled, the offputting smell is gone, and it now smells mostly like a sweetened rooibos.

The flavour actually isn’t all that bad; it tastes like a vanilla rooibos. A lingering vanilla aftertaste, like vanilla extract, is notably present, which is not something I’ve ever previously tasted from a tea, but other than that, it’s a fairly nondescript flavoured rooibos. No medicinal taste here either, which is a big positive. Not a tea I particularly want to drink again though, especially given a plethora of other much tastier flavoured rooibos options (e.g. Creme Caramel Rooibos, Oh Canada, etc.), but it probably serves its intended purpose well.

Sipdown!! (118 – sorry Sil :P)

This was one of the samples I got in my recent DAVIDs tea order. It is mostly rooibos with a hint of vanilla flavor. Really nothing special nor nothing offensive. I have been curious about this for a while so I am glad I got to try it but this will not be a restock.

This is pretty good. The vanilla could be a little stronger as some others have mentioned. I tried it without additions first. Nice for the evening with a splash of vanilla creamer, I just couldn’t resist the creamer tonight.

Sipdown!

This was a sample I got with one of my DT orders. I remember reading some reviews of it previously and I remember them being quite varied. I was interested to see what I’ll find out.

The dry tea smelled like rooibos with vanilla…. not much surprise there. I picked up more rooibos than vanilla though and cringed a bit because I’m learning that I’m not a huge fan of red rooibos.

I steeped it according to directions and when the timer rang I smelled the freshly brewed tea. Hmmm… what the heck is that? There was this smell to it… unpleasant… like some sort of a yucky bodily odour.

Being very cautious already, I poured the tea into the teapot and took a sip. Based on what I smelled I was prepared for a horror. Instead, I got quite a pleasant taste (wow, this tea is full of surprises). It wasn’t anything extraordinary, uh oh type of taste, but it was pleasant. I tasted some rooibos and I tasted vanilla. Red rooibos taste wasn’t as prominent as I thought it would be and I was happy with that.

With a cup in hand I came back to my laptop and searched for reviews of this tea on Steepster… To my utter surprise, the first review I read referred to the strange odour I smelled calling it a “stinky feet”. I wanted to compare and see if that’s indeed what I smelled but neither the tea in the teapot nor the wet leaves smell like that anymore. The strange odour has vanished like it was some sort of a phantom.

Overall, it’s ok I guess once you get past the steeping smell. I will finish what I have but will not purchase.

Yvonne

I was thinking of eventually purchasing this (I really want something that tastes of actual creamy vanilla and can’t seem to find it) but was turned off when I heard about the smell this gives off. I think I’ll still give it a pass.

Kamyria

I know what you mean Yvonne, I’m looking for the same thing. I was really excited when I got this as my sample… pure vanilla… sounds awesome, but for me this one just doesn’t cut it.

Not even done steeping and I can smell the medicinal scent.

Well there’s vanilla there, which helps to mask the medicinal taste. But unfortunately I can still taste that taste underneath.

Hahahahaha, I feel the same way about the Cinnamon Chai. Why does rooibos have to taste like that? Sigh.

Courtney

Sign is right. But that Green Rooibos I sent you have a completely different taste. Though I believe there’s just enough for a cup :/ I hope it’s enough!

jessiwrites

Eeeee, I can’t wait to try it! I discovered there is green rooibos in Oh Canada, so perhaps that is why it is slightly more tolerable for me.

Who doesn’t love vanilla? It is in almost every sweet food we love and the smell is the go to aroma for most people when choosing their own personal scent. Never have a I heard a disparaging remark about this lovely sexy thing.

Now Rooibos is not a main thing for most people I did not even register it as drinkable until my buff introduced me to it only a few years ago and I’ve been 30 years on this earth !drinking tea all that time!

Now this smells like straight up sexy sweet vanilla no real hint of rooibos until brewed and steeped. I of course overloaded my perfect DAVIDsTEA tea spoon and steeped 7 minutes for full body and flavour.I’ve never been a fan of straight rooibos the taste is not something I look forward to but this smells nice…I can tell its a rooibos but it doesn’t have that dry muddy smell it’s been liberated by the vanilla and they as ingredients complement each other nicely. The perfect couple? We shall see.

The taste is surprising in that it tastes like rooibos but for once I like it.it doesn’t feel heavy or earthy just warming and instead of being bitterness there is a sweetness at the end of every sip.there is also a floral kiss that is nice and subtle.

This tea is for you if you love rooibos and it is a great drink to start someone off with their rooibos discovering journey.I’m going to give this to my bff Linda Irvine since there is no bigger rooibos lover.I do feel conflicted about it though which surprises me even more!

I’m not going to buy more but I’ll never turn down a glass of it!

Drinking this one before bed since it has no caffeine hehe. This ones nice, pretty simple. I can’t taste too much vanilla, but I’m still drinking and left the bag in to see what happens… It mostly just tastes like rooibos. Not bad though! I’m enjoying it. I’d love to try the DT vanilla oolong and compare the two for vanilla flavor though. This one doesn’t seem “true” vanilla to me! But I still like it.

Edit: it’s starting to taste like cough medicine?

This tea was definitely one that I never plan to have again! The woman who was working there said that she found it tasted similar to a white freezie but honestly, I found it to be very bitter and the rooibos, quite woody. I disliked this tea so much that I was not even able to finish my to-go cup and poured about 3/4 of it down the drain. Very disappointing :(

TheKesser

I didn’t find my cup of this to be bitter, but I must agree I didn’t care for this one either. I didn’t really get any vanilla flavour from it at all… very disappointing indeed.

MooKiwi

Ya no vanilla there whatsoever! It is hard to even try to explain the flavour of this one…just very bizarre!

This was today’s sample at the Bleecker St store. Very vanilla but the rooibos is so strong. Not for me unfortunately.
