From DAVIDsTEA

Like all amazing recipes, this one took years to perfect – and it was totally worth the wait. This tea miraculously captures the flavour of freshly-baked banana bread. The taste of real banana slices blends perfectly with almonds and the sweetness of dates and currants. It’s fragrant, with all the warmth of a loaf hot from the oven. As deliciously comforting as mama’s special recipe, but without the calories.

Ingredients:
Dates, currants, almonds, banana, artificial flavouring.

Price: $8.98 per 50g

I absolutely love this tea as I love anything banana flavoured. A repurchase for sure, time and time again.

Day #11 of tea!

Another new one for me! The smell on this one was amazing – I do love a good banana nut bread (though preferably also with chocolate, lol).

My biggest beef with this, unfortunately, is that it is very, very heavy – and there wasn’t enough leaf in my 10g sample for two solid cups (vital, since I share the tea of the days with my mother, and she got to this one first). As a result, my cup was a lot weaker than I had hoped for, and I steeped this for a loooooong time. The flavour was good, but weak.

If I were to get this one again, I’d obviously have to buy more to get it to the strength I want, but I don’t know if it would be worth it for the amount of tea I would get. Pity.

Kristal

Agreed with your sentiments. It works well as a latte, but of course that’s quite pricey :/

Advent calendar [5/24]

I don’t seem to be able to do my teas in order, so here goes my backlog.

This tea happened on the Saturday when I had a first aid course all day. I’m not sure it was a great choice for me to start with. In fact, this day would have been better off with a mate, like a jumpy monkey type.

The first time I steeped it, I did it for 5 minutes in a t-bag with boiling water. It was weak and I had to re-steep it for a bit. When I drank it, it tasted like weak syrupy banana flavoured water.

I wasn’t ready to give up because so many people on here have raved about this tea as a latte. I unfortunately used too much milk in my infusion and wasn’t terribly impressed with myself. This was entirely my fault.

I ran out of my sample and I likely won’t try again. It’s too bad because the loose leaf smelled decadent and tasted wonderful by itself.

Sorry to hear you didn’t care for it! If it makes you feel any better, the leaf is so heavy in this one that’ll be expensive to purchase it anyways.

Backlog from last night.

Om nom nom. I love this tea, but I have a habit of not using enough “leaf” (nuts and fruit here, really) when making it. This tea is really chunky and heavy, so you have to use a lot to get a decent cup.

But man, I still love it. Sweet, nutty, fruity, bready. So good! Even better with a dollop of agave nectar.

I am a big fan of this one as well. This one was a big success.

This one came out of my Davids Tea advent calendar (this is the first year I actually managed to get one before they all sold out). I was forewarned and steeped it in a disposable sachet rather than my usual tea strainer to avoid having to clean out a mess. Despite that I really enjoy this tea as my bedtime cuppa. It really does taste like banana bread in tea form with just the right balance of banana, nuts and cake flavours. It makes for a very warm, soothing sort of drink for me. I would certainly consider buying more of this blend.

5/24 of the advent calendar and it was awful. Maybe I didn’t steep it long enough (7 minutes!!) but I steeped it in my steeper (lol) and thought it was a joke at first. I was combining nuts and boiling water in the hopes that a tea would be the outcome, also my sample didn’t have any banana pieces so that may have affected the flavour. Something that looked like tea came out of the awkward combining of hot water, raisins and nuts, it was oily on top with a light brown colour. Very sweet with some toasty(?) notes. I could see what they were going for but honestly it tasted like flavoured, sweet hot water. I didn’t expect much from this tea, I’ve never really liked herbal teas or anything banana so not disappointed, just kind of grossed out.

Day 5 of #24daysof tea. I am just…. confused by this tea. I’m getting a vague banana nut flavor, but it’s very weak even after steeping 10 minutes. I also noticed there was a gradient in color (and presumably flavor) so I stirred it. That helped a little but not much.

Day 5/24!

So I’ll start by saying I’m not the biggest fan of banana bread. For me it pretty much has to be straight out of the oven and LOADED with chocolate chips. With that in mind, this was probably one of the teas from the advent calendar I was looking forward to least.

General consensus seems to be that this is good as a latte, so that’s what I decided to do (plus a latte uses up the whole sample so it won’t be hanging around). I have to admit, this is pretty good. They’ve pulled off the flavour perfectly, and I’m loving the walnut notes. If I was more in to banana bread this would be great, but because of my personal preferences this is just okay.

Day 5/24 of 24 days of Tea (DAVIDs Advent Calendar)

I’m not going to do too long of a tasting note on this one since I did a note 2 days ago.

This time around I tried this tea straight as opposed to a latte (see other note). Despite steeping about 2 tsp in 8oz of boiled water for 10min, it was really weak. You don’t get nearly the same amount of banana + nut deliciousness. Definitely way better as a latte. Rating still remains 90 for a latte, but straight up it’s like 65.

yeah I always found the liquor for this one a bit weak!

Kristal

Glad I’m not the only one!

One day I need to order it up as a latte from the store. Somehow it never turns out when I try myself at home

Kristal

I found that true for myself for a long time until I tweaked (and bought) a few things. Idk if this helps, but here’s my recipe and I personally find it turned out quite good:

get 4 perfect spoonfuls of tea (10tsp)
-Place in steeper and fill with 8oz of water + any sweetener desired (I really like the steeper because it allows the flavours to be released well)
-steep for desired amount of time (I only do herbals/rooibos lattes so I steep from 5-10min) stirring often to release flavours
-In the meantime, froth milk in a frother (I’ve been using whole milk from a local farmer and it’s so creamy and lovely)
-when done, put tea in mug + add milk afterwards, leaving the froth to go on top

Dunno if this will help, and like you said you can always get it at the store where it’s a lot less work lol :)

Indigobloom

Hmm I haven’t got a good frother. But thanks for the tip, I’ll keep that in mind for sure!! Oh and we only have skim milk here, unfortunately. Boo. Really need my own place here, so I can set things up “my” way haha

Kristal

Yeah good frothers can be stupidly expensive :/. I found a decent one at homesence for about $30 and so far so good! I hear you also about not being able to do things your own way- I was so glad when I got married last year and moved out and was able to have things my way :)

Indigobloom

Right?! Ugh, SO much would be different in my house. One day…

I really enjoyed this brewed with a regular orange pekoe tea (for some body) and a splash of milk. My cup tasted like warm and slightly sweet banana bread!

However, I did want to point out that it took 25 g to brew one small cup. As a tisane, this is just dried fruits and nuts, no tea, which makes it very heavy. At $3.50 + a tea bag per glass, this is a little pricey compared to other teas. Based on that, I’ll probably keep trying other flavours instead of re-purchasing this.
