I couldn’t resist adding in some teas to my Dammann Freres advent order, and I’ve been curious about this one since last advent season seeing y’all here on Steepster review it so it was top of the list for me in terms of new blends I wanted to try!

I have to say, it made a STRONG first impression. Still a very black tea forward cup, as is the case for the majority of DF’s blends of this style. However, it’s got such a crystal clear creamy yogurt-like flavour with a just ripe mango note – still has the faintest bit of that pine-y resin note but also sweet, smooth and refreshing. The undertones are a little biscuit-y and sweet with that macaron-like nutty confection note but it’s very subtle and I think just adds to the overall richness without this being heavy or cloying or too fruity.

My biggest concern with this tea before tasting it would that it would simply just taste like mango without that very needed creamy component, but that’s not the case at all. I’ve also actually had a non-stop craving for this since finishing my mug, which is a VERY good sign.

Kaylee

Yes, this is one of my favorites from DF!

Yay! Glad this one worked out for you :)

Another old note I haven’t posted, for Day 9 of the Dammann Freres advent calendar that I’m taking a very long time to finish. Yet another black tea from this advent. The dry leaf smells delectably like juicy mango, vanilla, and cream. It’s been a long time since I’ve had lassi so I can’t speak to how accurate the flavor is to its namesake. The beginning of the sip features the dry, woody, almost cinnamony base. A gently juicy mango flavor comes in mid-sip. Unfortunately, I can’t detect any vanilla or cream notes. I hoped that would change as the tea cooled, but it didn’t. The base stayed prominent, the mango got a little juicier, and I suppose if I thoroughly stretched the imagination I could find a creamy note, but not really. I had high hopes for this one based off the scent of the dry leaf, but it just didn’t carry over into the cup.

Dammann Frères Advent Calendar 2022 – Day 9

Ooh, I’ve been so excited to try this one! :D

Okay, this is scrumptious. It has such a lovely sweet and creamy mango flavor, just like a mango lassi! It’s perhaps a bit more subdued than the real thing, more of gentle and relaxing tea than a bright and energizing one. But it’s just so smooth and lovely and yum… :3

I kind of wish they had added popped rice to make it a mango sticky rice sort of thing! Maybe I’ll have to order some and experiment myself ha ha.

mmmm another tea from crowkettle super glad to try this since i adore mangos. This isn’t quite what i’d call mango lassi – too subdued for that, but then french teas are generally more subdued in their flavouring. Enjoyed this one though, even as it cooled (work distractions!)

It smells like MANGO BISCUITS (::dies::).

Mangoes. Creamy, biscuit-y Mangoes. With almond flour.

I’d given up on finding a Mango tea I liked until stumbling on DFs excellent passion fruit flavouring (which isn’t remotely the same thing, but still). It’s not quite perfect and it’s simple, but I still love this tea to the point that I have to hide it from myself at times so I don’t drink it every day.

It may be a diluted, “baked” kind of Mango, and it’s unsurprisingly more of an almond cookie than a rich, tangy lassi (it’s missing the cardamom and yogurt mouthfeel) but it’s a Mango I can believe in (and buy in large quantities). The nilgiri base is also a plush, smooth cushion of a black tea. Not much of a nip, but enough to prevent this tasting flat.

Today I drank it alongside a dosa and sambar (South Indian Cuisine but still a fine pairing). And the sun is out! I can’t stay sad.

I love Lupicia’s mango, but this sounds wonderful too!

Crowkettle

I’ve not had the pleasure of trying Lupicia’s mango teas (that ripe mango pouchong looks divine), but I imagine they’re better than this one (vague memories of trying momo and melon teas and remembering how vibrant and sweet they were).

Still, this one isn’t bad at all! :P

I love Dammann in general so I’m sure I’d enjoy it. Definitely on the list for my next order!

P.S. – Just let me know if you’d like to try the Ripe Mango Oolong, I have plenty to share! :3

Kelmishka

Ahh, this sounds so delightful!

Courtney

Oooh! This one was on my wishlist, but I was waiting for some tea notes XD. You’ve made this sound just delicious!

Crowkettle

@Cameron B. – as a Canadian, trying Lupicia teas is a huge temptation; I may reach out when I get my (tea) life together :)
