From Dammann Frères

Lemongrass, star anise and rosehip make for a bold combination here in an infusion with fresh, lively and fruity flavors of lemon and clementine. Combining with a gently woody note of vanilla, this infusion delivers a warm and deliciously sweet beverage that brings to mind boiled candies.

Dominant note : Gourmet notes

Adventageddon Day 23

I started the morning with a lot of caffeine, so I was actually kind of happy for once to see a “sleep tea” as my last offering of the day. Opening up the sachet I was blasted with two distinct aromas: lemon candy and black licorice.

Steeped up, those flavours really only get doubled down on for an overall cup that is bright, citrusy and fairly sweet. The lemon and anise combination really reads a lot like a throat lozenge and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I think it’s more one of those flavours I’d need to be in a relatively particular mood to want to drink. Very mouth coating, as well. Overall it was nice to break up all of the decadence of the morning, though. For me, this is a very straight down the middle of the road kind of tea blend.

June Sipdown Prompt – a refreshing summer tea

We try to keep a pitcher or carafe of caffeined tea and another of either decaf or herbal. My decaf/caffeine free stash for things that taste great iced is a little lower than usual, but my eye fell on this one and I wondered how it would be iced.

It is amazing iced. Ashman poured it for me and when he brought it I thought at first he had misunderstood me when he asked if I wanted something to drink because it looked like he was bringing me water. As he got really close I could see it was pale yellow, but the first sip assured me that the taste was anything but weak. This is a powerhouse of lemongrass and anise and citrus flavor. Love it, and it will be a regular this summer.

This was a gift from Superanna. Many thanks!

Would definitely repurchase.

I make a note of this one, as time has come to enjoy iced teas!

Dammann Frères Advent 2021 – Day 20

I was worried this would be anise-heavy from the dry leaf aroma, but it’s more like a cozy lemon marshmallow cloud with anise accents. I’m enjoying this one, and wish it had fallen on one of the days I felt the sickest last week. It’s soothing.

Mom says “tastes like licorice.” So anise is definitely still a key player.

Sounds delightful! I mean who could pass up lemons or clouds?

^what ashmanra said. The anise troubles me, but maybe it is not too bad, always a crapshoot with anise. Frankly, I’ve been having more than enough anise in my masala chai.

Crowkettle

I don’t pass up regular clouds either! :)

Hopefully you don’t get too much anise in your sample, Evol. For me this combined the lemon flavouring I loved so much in the Citron Oolong, with a few herbal ingredients (lemongrass, anise); it was easier for me to accept.

Evol Ving Ness

Thanks, CrowKettle. I’m a bit behind with the advent, but I’ll get there. I loved DT’s Citron Oolong and LemonPoundcake. If the lemon is anything like those, I’m good.

Dammann Frères Advent Day 23 (23-February 2021)

This has a definite lemongrass scent. There are also subtle hints of vanilla, lemon, and perhaps star anise, but the lemongrass is so strong, these flavours get lost. Overall a good cup, but I don’t need this in my cupboard.

Advent 23.

Well, I oversteeped this since I was enthralled with Kiki’s reaction to the CuppaGeek Blackberry Lavender I made for her this evening.

Major lemongrass with a nice, soft vanilla-creamy finish. It’s clean and thick and just very nice despite my non-love for lemongrass and lemony cream flavor. I wish I hadn’t oversteeped. Even with my neglect, I couldn’t taste the star anise, of which there were 3 or 4 seeds in the sachet. I ended up cracking them open with my teeth and am going to do a second steep to see if I can pull anything else from this tisane.

Dammann Frères Advent Calendar – Day 23 (from November backlog)

Well I’m nearing the end of these advents. The window for tomorrow in this calendar is larger than all of the other days, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s behind it. This tisane has such a cute name, and there’s a lot of lemongrass in the sachet so hopefully I will enjoy it.

Yum, this tastes like lemon drops! Soft, lemony, and slightly sweet with a nice thick mouthfeel. There’s a bit of creaminess here as well, which makes me think of lemon meringue pie or a parfait with lemon curd and whipped cream.

I’m not a huge herbal tisane person, but I may have to add this to the list to pick up a bag when I order next. It’s like a lovely fluffy cloud of sweet lemon, perfectly for floating off to peaceful sleep… ❤

Lemon Drops! There is a candy I’ve always liked but haven’t had since I was a kid…

Cameron B.

I haven’t had them in a long time, either. To be honest, I’m not a hard candy person, I like chocolate and gummies much better!

Mastress Alita

Truth. But sometimes there is a certain mood where lazily sucking on a hard candy hits the spot…
