Pineapple Sorbet

I bought this last year for the Bluebird / Bird & Blend Boxing Day Sale. Gotta love those sales. It’s a good way to try their blends. This heatwave makes fruity green teas sound even more thirst quenching. So I had to go with this one so I could finally write a tasting note for it. I’d say the blend is made up more of the additional ingredients than the green tea. At a glance it looks like it’s 1/3 green tea to the other ingredients. I have never seen sumac berries in a tea and they just seem like they should be poisonous (poison sumac?)! But a day later I’m here to post this tasting note. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lemon & pineapple blend either. The resulting brew is fairly balanced — equal parts green tea with fruit flavors — the pineapple tastes like candy but luckily it isn’t overwhelming (but isn’t that what makes it sorbet?) It tastes more like pineapple than lemon even though there is a ton of lemon grass here. The second steep is more green tea tasting than fruit. This stuff goes fast… especially as it cools in this air conditioning!

I have mixed feelings about this one, such that i’m going to reserve judgement until i have it again. the dry smell is wonderfully pineapple, but the brewed blend seemed a little weak. As i said, will write more when i try it again and reserve judgement until then :)

This is a light, refreshing tea. I enjoy my fruity greens when they don’t have a thick, heavy, overwhelming taste, and this tea does that nicely. It has a somewhat softer touch of citrus than most lemon teas, and the sweet pineapple flavors take off some of the tangy edge. The tea is very smooth, and I pick up just a hint of a minty note in the aftertaste. As a warm tea, it is a pleasant enough sweeter lemon tea, but I definitely prefer this tea as an iced brew; cold brewing the tea gives it a very crisp, clean, refreshing flavor, and I really enjoy the citrus/pineapple flavor combination.

I iced this and added strawberry peach juice. The juice really takes over but the green tea is fighting to come through. Not my favorite.

It’s great to see a fruity blend that doesn’t focus predominantly on the fruit. I loved that the green tea came together WITH the fruit, rather than it being one or the other. Ultimately, Pineapple Sorbet taught me to always give it a go, because tea can, and will, surprise you.
