From American Tea Room

Grand Jasmin is an elegant jasmine-scented organic green tea comprised of waif-like leaves in colors ranging from green-black to dark French grey to shimmering silver. Dry, it has an incredibly smooth jasmine-honeydew aroma with undertones of cocoa and orange zest. When brewed, it becomes a coppery, aromatic infusion with an abundant jasmine bouquet and bold jasmine flavor. Notes of orange pith and unsweetened cocoa give way to an unapologetically full-on aftertaste of jasmine, with some astringency and green plant notes. Grand Jasmin is a liquid bouquet for those who love all that jasmine has to offer. This tea is certified USDA organic.

Thank you so much for the sample, American Tea Room! Just a note: I’m not a fan of jasmine teas. In perfumery, it’s finicky enough as it is, and only care for it when it’s masterfully blended with notes such as vanilla, coconut, or vetiver. Otherwise, jasmine is way too powerful. This also applies to tea. There has to be a lot of other things in the leaf in order to calm down that overbearing floral.

The dry leaf is overwhelmingly jasmine. My mom couldn’t believe how floral a tea can smell. I followed the directions and steeped it for three minutes, and let the water cool quite a bit, maybe even more than suggested. While the tea isn’t too bitter, it’s just so, well, jasminey! My mouth is filled with astringent jasmine, which does go on the bitter side as it cools.

Funny how I love florals, both in perfumery and cuisine, but jasmine is more often than not an exception. No dice, jasmine.

Thanks for your generosity! It was still interesting trying this anyway, and FWIW, I think jasmine fans would really like this.

Like some of the other ATR scented/flavored teas, the strong point here is the jasmine flavor. Maybe not as full as some so it tends toward the soapier end of things (as opposed to the herbal end of this spectrum of jasmine I apparently have in my head). The underlying green tea does let the jasmine shine but doesn’t contribute much flavor of its own.

ok, the funniest thing. i just ordered this as the jasmine pearls organic from ATR – and i had the same opinions about them as you, more or less. HOWEVER just so ya know, i dumped both teas into one cannister and shook it up real good. YUM! mixed together, there’s plenty of jasmine, no soapiness! it’s like the yin and the yang were trying to find each other, and i found a way for them to be together!
so. if you have any of both left over, mix-em! much better tea that way.
