Caramel

Another tea sample from PeppermintPlant. I tried this one twice before writing the review. The first time, I had trouble noticing the caramel. It tasted like black tea with a slight bitter flavor. So, I had to read the reviews and see if i could learn why others liked it.

For those of you who want to know how I think about tea…here’s my internal dialogue:
Cup two went like this: “Well, it does smell like caramel….I wonder if I added some milk it would taste like a milk caramel candy…” In went the milk and I tasted it again. “Hmmm, tastes like caramel but something is missing….maybe it needs to be sweet.” In went a bit of honey. “Ooooh, now it tastes like candy!”

So yeah, it is good. Better with milk and sugar if you want to bring out that dark caramel flavor.

Upping my rating on this. I brewed extra strong, added just a bit of almond milk and stevia. It was much better this time around.

Not full on sweet or caramelly (I know it isn’t a word) but is still tasty. If you go into it not expecting to drink a cup of syrup I think it is okay. However I have yet to try it with milk, which I’m sure would dull the taste.

Dude I am actually kinda sorta happy that I’m sipping this down today! I definitely thought I had a enough for a cup left (I sent this to Flo and Sam not too long ago) but my eyes lied to me! What I thought was about a teaspoon of tea, turned out to be much smaller than that. So just a smaaaaall cup of tea today.
Perfectly fine though! I’m with my cousins and I brought a whole bunch of tea that needs to get sipped down so it’s all good :)

Having a hard time deciding if I like this. Smells amazing and was taunting me as I drove to work but then when I tasted it I get an odd burnt taste. As I continue to drink it I am not noticing the burnt taste as much and the caramel flavor, though subtle, is coming through more.

This is a tea I bought quite a while ago and then forgot I had… I think I got it because an idea I had for a blend which I have now forgotten. Maybe it will come to me.

Anyway, when you open the package, it does smell pretty much exactly like caramel. Not an overwhelming artificial smell, just sweet and slightly burnt smelling.

I usually drink my tea straight but I read a few of the reviews here and decided this would probably be enhanced by a bit of sweetness, so I used a tiny amount of Really Raw Honey.

So, overall? Tasty, but nothing too special. Would probably work well in blends.

Edit: Maybe not… while drinking this tea I became nauseous and a little bit lightheaded. It could be unrelated, but I can’t say I’m excited to try this tea again after this experience.

FINALLY GIVING THIS A SHOT all by itself without mixing it with other things oh WOW THAT SMELLS REALLY GOOD— BRB IT NEEDS MILK.

Okay the milk helps a lot cuz without it kinda tasted like some really bitter wannabe caramel coffee or something I MIGHT HAVE BREWED IT WRONG TOO I’ll have to give it another go later but WITH MILK it ain’t too bad.

I must be odd because I don’t like the way this tea smells in the bag but it smells alright once it’s steeped. But my goodness, the taste. It is all caramel. The black tea makes a nice base but it kind of gets lost in the yummy-ness of the caramel flavor. It begs for a bit of sweetness and is greatly enhanced by it. Dairy makes it taste like a caramel candy but it muddies the tea for me. A bit of sugar makes this tea addicting. I want to try it iced now!

After a too-weak second steep attempt with Kashmiri Chai (I did 5 mins, but next time, I’ll do it longer, and hopefully that’ll work better), I thought I’d try this one! :)

The leaves just smell sooo yummy. Mmmm caramel. Still smells like caramel when brewed, but there’s definitely still some black tea scent in there.

And the taste? Smooth, black tea with a hint of caramel. It’s got a light sweetness to it that doesn’t overpower the tea. It’s yummy! I can’t complain. :)

I did knock the steeping time down to 3 mins from Adagio’s suggested 5 mins. That steeping time definitely seems to work, at least for me.

The aroma is dominated, as one can imagine, by dark caramel, very nice and mellow, toffee or dulce de leche like.
And it blends really well with the base black malty tea, isn’t cloying, in fact it’s only barely sweet.
Good tea. It would probably taste great with some milk.
