Geek Steep Holiday Episode – “Geek”
Marika and I had a lovely, and needed, holiday break this past week and the one before where we explored some of our favourites teas and fandoms from 2020 that helped get us through the year. This was the geek episode of that little break for our usual format, so there wasn’t as much talk about tea – but of course we had to drink something over the course of the conversation…
Since we recorded this episode right in the heart of advent season, I took it as a break from my daily advents to make something both holiday themed but also with a bit of a simpler and stripped down flavour. Basically, this is just a rose white tea with a tiny bit of pine-y rosemary. So straight forward, and relaxing/comforting. I appreciated the clear flavours immensely.
I won’t give away all of my fandom picks from the episode because I (of course) think you should check it out and give it a listen (we appreciate the support so much) but I will say that one of them was Fruits Basket – I know there are some fans of the anime/manga here on Steepster. I’ve debated quite a bit if it’s one that I want to introduce Marika to, and I would love the help picking episodes to show her if we do ever cover it on the podcast…
Also, it wouldn’t be a top fandoms list if Marika didn’t fit Star Trek in there at least a little bit!

Yeah, I wasn’t expecting this tea to work for me. The ingredients are white tea, rose petals/buds, schizandra berries, and rosemary; I’m only fond of the first and last items on that list. Anyways, flavourwise this is fairly light, and actually quite accurate to the description – slightly floral, and slightly herbaceous. It’s just a whisper of rose, and a smidge of rosemary, and the schizandra berry is probably in there somewhere but I’m less acquainted with that flavour and can’t pick it out. It’s less terrible than I was expecting, but this probably serves as a sipdown as I plan to offload it shortly on my mother, who may enjoy it more.
